- The Old Country Store has served a variety of purposes in its 130 year existence. The old store has been everything from a general store to a bus station. Arthur Davis, the self proclaimed Fried Chicken Cooking King procured the old store 12 years ago, and has been cooking up a bit of magic ever since. Mr. Davis and his fried chicken have been featured on the Food Network, Southern Living Magazine, and countless local and national newspapers. Mr. Daviss brand of southern cooking combined with his love of song is sure to provide any customer with a down home dining experience.
I went there! He serenaded me and is really as friendly and nice as he comes across!
I am getting a heck of an appetite watching this man cook.
I miss the South. People so often misunderstand...what its about. I have to jump on a train and get down there again. I miss the place.

I visited this place long ago (25 years) when i was a child. I still remember it and how much my grandmother loved going here on our way to Alabama. Good memories! I hope to go back one day soon.

I stopped by this place on my way to First Church in Mississippi, the place was packed.
Mr. D is not only the best fried chicken cooker in the world, but a great singer as well...I'd love to taste some of the fried chicken.
I'd love some of that chicken, but I'll pass on the singing.

Corn bread and buttermilk at night time makes me sleep like a baby .
This place brings gas back so many memories being from Natchez ms born an raised before it became a restaurant they would have the best salami and cheese living in Florida now can't wait to go there Be blessed all

Makes me want to get on the road from Savannah GA and drive to Mississippi for some of Mr D's good home cooked fried chicken! Heck, I might take a trip there.

Boy I wish I lived in the southern states instead of New Zealand as I LOVE chicken.
This black chicken has a paiful history but it is healing chicken. If black people stop eating chhicken the economy will collapse to junk status. But you got to find the right kind

We go several times a year, drive over from Louisiana, the food is straight up to die for ... but watch out, Mr. D will pick out certain couples and sing to them and encourage them to step up the quality, quantity and intensity of their, ahem, shall we say, romancing? Delightful and inspirational entrepreneur who lives up to his Chicken King moniker. The celebrated showman PT Barnum ain't nothing compared to this guy. Mr. D is all heart and funning ... but deadly serious about throwing DOWN on that magical buffet.

After you eat you all need to check out the new RV park and historic architecture on the campus of Alcorn State. It's truly beautiful.

I finally made to the Old Country Store Restaurant last Saturday. Been hearing about it and sending folks there who stay at nearby Rosswood Plantation or just traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Goodness! I want some! NOW! Trouble is I am now in the Philippines! Kinda far to go even for the most delicious fried chicken in the world!
we stopped by here while filming in the area... some guy greeted us with the tact of a drill instructor... It was obvious we were not locals... we finally sat ourselves and the folks working there just sat and watched us... maybe we missed something, but it was obvious we were there to eat and were left dismayed at the lack of service we received.. Touching story, but I wouldn't stop at that place again, certainly wouldn't go out of the way for fried chicken... You can get the Worlds best anything anywhere.. just ask anyone trying to hustle yard bird...

About 30 minutes north of Natchez on Hwy 61. Stopped there yesterday, the chicken is amazing!

This place should be on diners dives and drives! I wish i lived in the south too but more of my left leaning politics.

Been there and done that. Do not go out of your way to eat there. Average at best and a little pricey. Not sure if it was the owner’s son but one of the employee’s car was shot all to hell with bullet holes. Kinda scary.
I hope as he ages he doesn't decide to give his recipes to some White people
