  • Finishing off this big crane job, with a Maple in an enclosed courtyard at the school. In all honesty, I learned these shelf and v-cuts from Instagram..... Don't be like me... if you have crane work, get trained professionally.

I winced when you cut that stump. And giggled when you filed your chain. Nicely done

Thanks for the movie. It was a great episode. That maple would keep my house warm for all of December. You seem like a climber with an education.

Aloha. My first exposure to crane removals was with the sena bluetooth system. The fact that you're able to stall the pick and then walkie-in is pretty good. I'd imagine the live comm would be more ideal. I have yet to do a crane removal myself.

BIG fan. Hey would you ever do a video on crane/tree rigging? Straps compared to spliced eyes. Happy to see what you think.

Great job! Stinks you had to use that walkie talkie instead of a Sena type set up. I laughed at the final stump cut too.

Nice work! Normally you would do the horizontal cut first to prevent pinching your saw

Patrick, here's an unrelated question you might prefer to answer in a video, in case you're looking for future topics. I am hoping you'll comment on face cut depth and size when felling the stem while on your spurs. Am I correct to say that a larger than average notch is preferred for big wood when felling from spurs, simply because of the practicality of getting a large diameter log to begin falling without making the hinge too thin? Is it correct to say that a larger and deeper face cut will tend to drop the segment closer to the base, and a smaller notch can be used if you want the stick to move farther from the base? What kind of face cut do you favour if you are concerned about going for a big ride after the segment falls? When on spurs, is there any advantage to making the angle cut of the face cut below (Humbolt) rather than above?

If I had a crane on site I think I’d just pull the whole tree out of the ground, stump & all in one piece.
