I like that you use that shelf cut. But do it the other way around. First the cut thats paralel to the ground. Then the back cut on a angel. Let it sit on to the cut. Get out of the way and then its time to pick it 😊 i like your videos 😉
It’s true, I could go to other companies and learn different techniques. However I have you, and I’ve learned more from you than one company would teach me.
Do the “shelf” cut with the “flat” cut first, watching the kerf as you make the top cut. You can kinda gauge the preload and adjust. Also a slight vertical V cut helps when you have to rotate the piece horizontally and keeps the butt from springing towards you.
Nice job, just a small piece of advice, try using D shackles instead of choking the slings, that way you don't have to bring the hooks right down to you. Also hands free communication is a game changer. Do you know what the maximum lift was from that position ?
Shackles would have been useful.... I just used what the operator gave me.... the comms were annoying as hell, Sena's with the operator are the way to go... I think he could lift 8-10K lbs from there... - Patrick
@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM I suggested using a CMI shackle that I had just bought on my last crane job. Everyone (crane op and ground crew) loved it. It works with a slic pin instead of a threaded pin, so there's no chance of dropping the pin. Before that we had always girthed the slings like you did here. In addition to time savings, its easier to manipulate the sling around the limbs with the weight on the end.
Like riding a bike after the first few picks u got the swing of things . My only advice is go over the proper crane commands with the operator despite coms he cannot see you , awesome job . Love your channel keep up the great work dawg 💪🏿💪🏿
A lot went right in this crane removal. Ok some cuts were back to front on execution,, but nothing that led to danger or serious problems. Also I noticed that you got your weight right on the big lateral branches and that is hard to do with little experience. Nothing broke, everyone stayed safe and even with your "door security" intercom, that should at least had some velcro attachment or something, you managed it well. No stress, much of the improvements come with better equipment and time in the tree doing this kind of work. In the end you´ll find it easier than some of the other stuff. Great stuff for being so honest!
Well done mate I've only done two crane jobs I feel your nerves. Nice feeling to be out of the comfort zone every now and then. Keep up the great work mate. 👌
Also, as the crane is getting in final position to be hooked (cable/swing) to the tree i like to give a countdown (5,4,3,2,1) so the operator can start slowing the motion. Especially when the operator can't have direct sight to me or the pick.

He Seem's like a pretty successful and classy dude. I wouldn't be surprised if he would do that. Educated climber is as well. Most of all, it would just be a quality Yutube episode.
If you do crane work frequently id highly recommend the 3 peice crane rigging sling set. Fully adjustable by the climber to keep brush picks sitting perfectly as they come off. Im 26 years old and just bought a 25ton grove last year. World of difference in the removal game.
I have been on enough crane Jobs to know that it looks really easy from the ground . but the climber and the crane operator must have good n clear commutation . great video and as for the ground crew some times its the little pieces really get in the way ..

I'm just a couple of minutes into your video and I'm curious as to why you dropped those smaller branches that most likely had to be bundled up and carried out I'm assuming through the school hallways? Didn't you get the crane because of the lack of access to get brush and logs out of there? To pick it up out of that little courtyard? Maybe you just wanted to keep your ground guys busy? We’ve always found on crane jobs that round slings are best as they are more manoeuvrable and cinch up better on limbs , you should probably get a set to have there for yourself when these jobs arise , anyway good stuff from Ireland .
Serious question, where you able to sleep the night before this job? My first couple crane jobs I didn’t sleep a wink the night before due to nerves, excitement and inexperience. As always keep up the great work🤙🏻
Hey Patrick, you should definitely check out some videos about cutting technique or just watch some crane videos of Reon or August. The V-cut is much safer than what you did. Also try to make the first cut from the side you can‘t reach that good. Great job though! Climb safe =)

in Connecticut we had a tree climber get crushed by a log that swelling back and crushed him unfortunately he lost his life I don't know how experience he was or the whole situation but it was really sad news
Kinda lucky we use 2 crane guys. Both been doin trees long time. Can hook up bluetooth n they can let ya know were there happy. Sayin that doesnt work so well they cant c ya. Cheers

Dude! Gotta come to Wisconsin and we will show you some tricks! (I bought Reon’s old crane last summer). 1. Gotta get Sena units and a crane set. I wouldn’t do crane work without them. 2. Get some deadeye slings! We still use straps for wood chunks but they are almost impossible to truly balance brush picks with. 3. Did you know what his capacity was for each pick? Even within the same tree our capacity often changes dramatically. 4. Why not ride the ball? Is it not legal up there?
Sena's with the operator would have been mint. Not sure the operator would have allowed tying knots for all these pieces. My old neighbour is a crane operator and he says they use zero knots, it's all choking or shackles. I think the capacity was between 8-10K lbs, which is why they were annoyed by my first 2 picks. Riding the ball here in Ontario, as far as I can tell, is really up to the operator. A lot of them won't let you do it. I rode the ball 1 time years ago, on a storm clean up job, it was awesome... No youre not really allowed to in Ontario however most operators let us if we attach a shackle above the headache.. were rocking choker straps down here lad never had an issue. all decent suggestions tho lol

In personal experience so long as your straps have readable tags on them showing what they are rated for the operators I worked with were comfortable with it. Legal or not I feel that my safety is always more important than what is legal. Even if it is slightly less kosher if it makes my job safer I will do it. 🤷🏻♂️
Yep, big weeds only get more and more dangerous as they get older and larger becoming potentially lethal. No one truly knows just exactly when they gonna fall down. Have fun, safety always comes first. Prost 🍻
