Great review. I agree with all your well-articulated takes. I will say that Twenties has its place thematically within the album's rise/fall of empires, and is definitely a cousin to Meliora's Mummy Dust.
I've listening to ghost a few months before tha mary on a cross boom and they're definetly my fav band. Of course, it isn't what you usually expect from metal, so I get a lot of people not vibing with it, but I feel like tobias uses his experience in music and past bands to create something so unique that I gently hold it closer to my heart. This album made me feel some soft emotions the others didn't, it can be soothing at times. Also, the political critism is way more in your face with Impera, like in griftwood and twenties, letting the teathrical satanism a bit less on the spotlight. After all, it's all about an empire being created - and being the reason of it's own destruction. The ghouls also are splendid in the whole album, Ghost is able to make a guitar solo in almost every song without making it boring or repetitive. Now, we shall see what the future awaits for Copia - or papa emeritus XI - and what the next album will bring us (still want to see copia's vamp side more!).
Great review, X. Personally I instanly loved Hunter's Moon as it feels exactly like what you'd expect from a classic slasher film like Halloween. Twenties is my least favorite track; it sounds like something you'd hear in a musical, and just doesn't quite hit for me.
i personally like the "call me little sunshine", "watcher in the sky" and "respite on the spitalfields". the others are alright but they didn't have the "ghost" sound i enjoyed. some old songs had that a bit dark, intimidating but interestingly cool vibe. i need to listen to it a bit more but yeah i was expecting something different. personally 4-5/10

I was quite disappointed with impera - I was hoping to hear a few new bangers, but there really weren't any. And while there are a few really good songs (watcher in the sky, call me little sunshine and twenties actually) there wasn't anything I could compare to square hammer or rats - and that was quite disappointing. For me personally sabatons new album was much better - I had much lower expectations for it (as for me none of the songs from it released prior to it were especially good) so stormtroopers and drednaught really came as a great surprise

I really liked Hunter's Moon, it was the first song I heard from Ghost while I was listening to the radio while driving. I think it's underrated.

i think griftwood is my favorite song in the album.
Spillways and Griftwood should've been the singles off of the album.

Back half of the album was kinda meh. Twenties was a major miss for me. Respite on the spitalfields made me forgive them for the back half.

X, i think you should take a look at Mainstream Sellout, as it is an amazing amalgamation of many genres yet somehow centered into punk rock.
