Appears the cheetah was apprehensive to begin with; timidly walking toward the crowd. If you must have an ambassador cheetah program, it has to be a completely calm one in all respects. Many of these public encounters are ending because it's not good for either the animal, conservation efforts, or the public. Too many incidents now.

Cheetahs aren't necessarily violent(towards humans) so the only thing I can see here that makes sense is as the cat first notices there's no slack on the leash made him go into fight or flight. More simpler I'm thinking there were too many unfamiliar faces adding to the fact he realized he's 'trapped' he lost it. Poor lil kitty.

It was timid, did not like the situation, was showing the clearest of signs of all of that even to an untrained eye and yet she and they still decide to put it through the ordeal. It then showed clearly that it wanted to move away, she put tension on it and forced it to move the way she wanted and that triggers that little episode, hardly an attack, more a fight or flight reaction, if it wasn't on the lead it would have left.

Ok, for one, who. The. FUCK. Wears khakis when dealing with a wild animal?(not to mention the material it was made of) she didn't have gloves or anything either, wild animals are just that, wild and as such they have a level of unpredictability that needs(try) to be accounted for when dealing with them. Now don't get me wrong as far as which big cat I'd rather risk a scrap with, it would be a cheetah.. even nature gives these poor guys the finger, and they need emotional support puppies when growing in captivity. They are the marshmallows of the big cat world, so she got lucky.
