    I watched a local carpenter setting trusses. He had a temporary spacer that opened like a folding rule. When it opened, it bit into the truss so it wouldn't slip. he had a few of them. Once he started the sheathing, he just folded them up, no nails needed.

    I see lumber prices are creeping up again. Saw 7/16 osb was $28.96 at the big box store yesterday. That’s about 4 dollars more than it was in November.

    Ken, how do you secure the wall bottom plate to the concrete, and what size plywood do you use on the roof?

    • @kenskarpentry
      @kenskarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use wedge anchors to secure it to the concrete. We use 5/8 cdx

    I like the idea of pre-staining the T-111. Do you use a finish nail to put it on ?

    • @kenskarpentry

      We use 2” ring shank galvanized nails

    Another great looking garage. Just curious about the cost of the T-111 siding compared to vinyl? I know you were trying to match the house, but overall which is less expensive. What’s the price of lumber doing these days?

    • @kenskarpentry
      @kenskarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The t-111 is more labor and the materials are slightly more

    What size nails r u using for ur roof sheathing? Love the video, keep them coming. Also do u ever get call backs on any issues that showed up after the build was done? If so what r the most common things u have to fix?

    • @kenskarpentry
      @kenskarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We use 2 inch galvanized ring shank nails on the roof. We don’t really get callbacks the garage construction is pretty straightforward. Thanks for watching

    Quick questions! Are these structures earthquake-proof? How do you keep them from sliding off the slab? As I don't see any bolts installed before the slab cures.

    • @kenskarpentry
      @kenskarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We secure them with wedge anchors. Fortunately we don’t get earthquakes around here.

    Nice work! We're in South Carolina and getting quotes for a two car garage ranging from 79,000 to 52,000. That seems really high. What are your thoughts?

    • @kenskarpentry
      @kenskarpentry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lots of variables, size and style of garage, earthwork, concrete, permits. Hard to know but things seem a lot more expensive elsewhere than here. A building permit here is generally $25 or even zero. Some towns don’t even require a permit.

    • @rupe53
      @rupe53 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Carolyn P ... in your area they have different codes for hurricane weather, which will be a higher cost for roof and wall anchoring. They may also require a full foundation before pouring the slab. Then there's the difference between unfinished and finished inside... electric and plumbing. It all adds up.

    I’ve always liked the T-111, but around these parts it always seemed to check and crack after a short period of time. Ever found a way to prevent that checking?
