  • This was one wild cookbook! It has every stereotypical hippie generation trait you could imagine which made it one of the most entertaining cookbooks I've read in awhile!! And what better way to open Hippie Month than to make a pan of brownies! So, grab some flowers, dance around a bonfire and make lots of healthy food to fuel your revolution as we look at some of the coolest cookbooks of the 60's and 70's!
    What you'll need:
    1/3 c melted Butter
    1/3 c Carob Powder
    1/2-1 c Raw Sugar-- I used 3/4 c
    1-2 Eggs ---- I used 2
    1/2 c Whole Wheat Flour
    1/4 c Wheat Germ
1/2-1 Nut Pieces-- I used what was left of a bag of Pecans; about 3/4 c
    1 tsp Vanilla
    1/2 tsp Salt
Stir all ingredients together and bake at 325 degrees for about 30 minutes.

I'm going to make these because I'm a notorious carobaholic! I'll use whole wheat pastry flour. Glad you warned me about the meat and organ recipes-- I was looking for the book and it costs a fortune, and I wouldn't want to buy it with a lot of animal products!

Love the 70's intro. I was a teenager through most of the 70's. Brought back a lot of memories. Never became a hippie. Lol This Brownie recipe really looked good. Thank you so much for sharing. I will try this one.

We made carob cake growing up and if I remember correctly we used Buttermilk in it. I loved it!

Maybe you can substitute sugar for blue agave or honey.

I think either one would be wonderful. This recipe is perfect to experiment with. I'm also fine with any excuse to make them again! :)

Oh no! I'm sad you can't eat chocolate! Can you eat white chocolate? White chocolate is mostly contains cocoa butter, milk powder and sugar. I love chocolate and don't take it for granted, especially since chocolate is slowly getting scarce.

I can have white chocolate! I actually forgot about it and was so happy when I remembered it. Snickers recently came out with a white chocolate version and it's become my little treat to myself!

@@ACookbookCollector They have white hot chocolate mix. I know Swiss Miss has it. It's hard to find white chocolate powder where I live, especially the ones you can use for baking. White chocolate is nice. There's a recipe for hot white chocolate with coffee liqueur and whipped cream. It is amazing!

@@jkseraphim4 I'll look for the Swiss miss! I've been missing some good hot chocolate! 😄 I may have to add the whipped cream too.... it sounds wonderful!
