Everything was going so great... Until I had to free fall onto the trail from a boot pack. Sorry, just not comfortable with this. I then turned back and bailed into town.

No apologies needed. I too am an older hiker, and refuse to take crazy risks when hiking alone. Better to live and fight another day.

Never apologize for making a wise decision. ❤️ Always do what is best for you ❤️ I totally agree with stopping and taking it in , maybe a gift of getting old . I also understand scheduling, budgets and the reasons for being out there are different for eveyone . Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep enjoying the adventure.❤️🇨🇦

Absolutely. We're all out here for different reasons. I would never judge anyone for hiking their own hike. I love trail life

This is your hike, we're just along for the ride. Do whatever you feel comfortable with. I agree that some people are rushing through and losing the opportunity to take in the beauty of nature. Undertandable if they're on a schedule and need to get back or if they didn't plan on how much it actually costs and can't afford to take the time. We really appreciate that you're documenting your hike and telling it like it is.

Keep making wise decisions for you. Solo hiking is next level and you are good at it, keeping yourself safe and injury free. Love your honesty. Happy trails.

I am an older hiker as well and I respect all of your decisions. Being solo has its pros as well as cons. You are a wise woman and love your go get 'em spirit! Life is an adventure! Hike on☮️

I think you totally took the right option not going on this snowy traverse. I’d say everybody has to adapt their hike to their ability to avoid unnecessary risk. In my opinion, if you have to skip small bits because you feel too uncomfortable with trail conditions, then there is no shame in doing so. For me you are still on trail and through hiking! 👍💟

As someone who just experienced heat exhaustion in the Montana wilderness, I can say "be careful and listen to your body".

You should have gone to Sierra City after that it mellows out on the other side of the interstate you have a hard spot also.

The hikers behind that were seemingly pushing you will one day slow down. Or get injured. It’s inevitable.

Wisdom is what will get you through. Nobody gets a medal for attempting a maneuver like you encountered on the PCT; on the contrary getting injured would involve SAR resources and at best the end of your hike and at worst let’s not go there. I see you enjoying the gorgeous scenery and HYOH. All of us eventually hit a wall that stops us in some way if we’re lucky. You’re handling that barrier with grace.
