I too read those at 8 years old and...what a mess. And my favorite series was the BSC at that age too...hearing the music from the old show REALLY took me back, so thank you for including that clip! (I could literally HEAR Claudia talking about "Bettina" in my head, when you described that episode.)

This was such a fun idea! Some of my favorite series! I much preferred Sweet Valley Twins to Sweet Valley High. SVH was drama drama drama and I was reading them around 5th grade and even then I felt that I probably shouldn't be reading them (though I had definitely read Flowers in the Attic and a Danielle Steele or two by that point 👀). I alremember borrowing a SVH book from a friend and my mom found it in my backpack and didn't really want me to read it, so I needed to give it back to my friend. But I felt self-conscious about not having read the book since clearly it was okay for my friend to read it but not me. So I held onto it in my backpack for a time that I thought would indicate I read it. Well, the book got all worn out and faded in my backpack and I felt terrible about returning it. I can't even remember how I explained it to my friend lol. I loved The Babysitters Club and read several of them. I wanted to o start my own, but I didn't live near any of my school friends and so couldn't make the club. I never watched the original series, but I did watch the two or three seasons of the reboot on Netflix and I highly highly recommend it. I thought I would feel it was corny and lame, but it was so well done and made me tear up a few times from the nostalgia of that age. I loved The Boxcar Kids! I got to live vicariously through these kids, especially as they were solving mysteries. I loved solving mysteries. Speaking of mysteries, I wonder if you ever read the Nancy Drew books? Or the Bobbsey Twins or Trixie Belden? Those boxes scratched my mystery itch as a kid. I need to read Mr. Popper's Penguins. It sounds cute! Oh! Last thing. Did you ever read the Sweet Dreams books? I did as a kid and came back to them as an adult. Fun times!
omg! i was also reading Danielle Steel at that age 😂 what were we doing with her novels at that age?! hopefully your friend just thought you loved SVH so much that it just became worn out haha. the original BSC tv show is on SlingTV or Peacock if you're ever interested in watching it. i'm definitely going to check out the reboot on Netflix though! thanks for the recommendation. i read a couple of Nancy Drew books when i was younger, but i also remember reading the Hardy Boys! i never read the Sweet Dreams, but i'll definitely look them up. and Mr. Popper's Penguins was a fun time! i'd suggest checking it out for sure!

I can’t believe Sweet Valley High was so messed up, but I guess I am not that surprised 😂 I reread some Babysitter’s Club books over the last couple of years and they are still so fun. I would definitely recommend at least the first season of the Netflix babysitter’s club reboot. I was sad it got canceled after season two because it was so much fun
