This interview motivates me to use a facemask in my second MSE. In the end, I had to take a surgery to split the future (male, 28) and we didn't get so much of expansion, therefore we are going for a second MSE. Currently, I'm trying to design some type of reverse headgear that is not supported by the chin, which makes my sleep apnea severely worse. Thanks for the interview.
Hey Ronald, have you ever thought about interviewing dr. Audrey Yoon? She has a very interesting view on how to expand the maxilla with MSE and small incisions into the maxilla.
"Facemask from the start with mse can gain up to 3mm forward" hm that's pretty inspiring, I wonder what angle he sets the headgear at? This interview is really good
I don't think that 3mm is a magical end of possible expansion , IT depends on force, time ( someone who 24/7 will get more), bone remodelling ability etc
Curious what his thoughts are on Alt-RAMEC (Alternative rapid maxillary expansion and collapse). He got so close to mentioning it, but he said he only collapses once. If you expand and collapse over and over again, it keeps the sutures looser and prolongs treatment so that the headgear can be used for a longer period.
@@saminloes6437 For sure. I hope I can do it with my treatment. I don't remember where I heard it, but I think Dr. Mike Mew did a sort of Alt-RAMEC on his patient Polly with his Biobloc treatment. He did a good job on her.
@@danielleholland2143 This would be ideal. Paired with some kind of sonar vibratory apparatus to losen the sutures connected to the maxilla even more and just wear that stuff for like a year that would be amazing.
Thank you for doing this, Ronald. Would you consider having John Mew on your channel? He has statated very strong opinions against the MSE appliance and I thus think a discussion between the two of you, or maybe Dr. Ting, would be an interesting listen.
He belivies it is such a dangerous intervention that it should be banned. He stated this in a short comment on Facebook, but didn’t explain why he thinks so. This is the reason I would like to hear a discussion between him and Ronald.
@@LittleHarryBrother1 If he invent something that bring maxilla up and forward to look have great forward compact midface and wide Fwhr I would listen to him. Until now I see no proofs about his treatment.
@@Hhjhfu247 You are entitled to that opinion. But remember, he can still provide a valid argument against the MSE, regardless if his method works or not. One doesn't have to have the solution to the problem in question, to point out flaws others.
So what I learned is Facemask doesn't give too much forward growth once you are over 18 but if you want the max gains, you have to apply it as soon as the suture splits. Hmmm I guess it's still worth a shot then. Also Ronald can you ask Dr.Ting about IMDO surgery and his thoughts?
Its not that you turn over 18 and magically gains are low. It depends on you how strong and long you pull. Cause forward growth is the most attractive and masculine feature
I’m using face mask with a distractor and I saw a change after just one night. After the second night my nose became wider. More attractiveness after the third. I’m now addicted and all I want to do is to stay home wearing this mask enjoying that pain. I’ve no idea whether it’s swelling or what but I like it. The doc told me that I would see the results as early as one week. I’m a female, 33 years old
How did you decide what angle to attach the elastics? My understanding is that most MSE+FM patients use traction angled downward from the occlusal plane.
Hi was just wondering about palatal expansion, I feel like u know more than me , I don’t want to go down the route of a expansion appliance , and I have an extremely strong tongue , I am 17 years old and was wondering if I could get similar results with my tongue as I could with a shwartz appliance ? Thanks
Very interesting. So, from what I understand, is it that the FM should be worn right after the suture is split, and until it fuses, maybe a month after? So there is no benefit to wearing it for long term, some time after the sutures are fused? In one of Dr. Moon's presentations about MSE, he said a patient of his wore FM for about 9 months. Aren't there really any advantages after the bone growth phase?
hey i saw in some video you mentioned opening and closing the mse while using the facemask after the intial expansion to get more forward growth could you give mote detail or tell me which video you mentioned it in because i cant seem to find it
Another question for follow-up video: I read that a facemask can apply less then 1kg of protraction force. However, a RED device anchored with pins in the skull can provide about 8kg of force. Can the RED device, usually used for surgical distraction osteogenesis be used with MSE for more protraction? thecraniofacialcenter.com/images/crouzon_midface.jpg
Sadly no. Many think the maxilla affects the browridge but logically and evidently it does nothing. The maxilla solves so many things but anything past lower eyelid area improvement is really pushing it IMO
Hey Ron. How much do you believe it would cost to get an mse plus a facemask, and then invisalign or braces afterward. Of course prices vary, but I'm looking for a rough estimate. Thanks!
@@perseuscameron np, it was actually a bit closer to 8k ($7.7k?) before insurance. i chose braces over Invisalign, so the latter option may be cheaper. invisalign and braces both get the job done and can extrude teeth well, so just choose the cheaper/most convenient option. hope this helps
Question for follow-up video: I know a provider that uses both facemask and 2 anchorage miniplates in the mandible with elastics from the MSE arms to the miniplates. Can there be more protraction from also using the miniplates?
I'm currently being expanded. My orthodontist says my maxilla is in its correct spot, and if anything it's slightly more forwards than average (I've got quite a large lower jaw and a short, square head). However, I have retroclined incisors and the anterior part of my mouth looks like it should grow forward (seems to be genetic). I'm wondering what is the best way to get protrusion in the front of my mouth as I am very self-conscious about how flat my lip and nasal base area is. I think my orthodontist is planning of using the jones jig appliance for a distalization method, but from my research, this would move my teeth and probably just flare my incisors but it won't create much skeletal or soft tissue change and thus would not change my side profile much. Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix retroclined incisors?
I have the same issue . It’s cause by not having the tip of tongue forward enough . I’m going to be getting MSE and pulling forward . I need 3-5 mm . Does your tongue stick out from the front ?
