      Yes...in our everyday lives we should have follow the dictates of Eph 5 and Col 3. I don't think the singing in this video is what those scriptures are talking about, however....those chapters describe how we should live every day.

    God Said “Sing”
    Warren E. Berkley
    When people visit our assembly and express their curiosity about our vocal music, I reply with this simple expression of our conviction: God said “sing.” I make it clear that the absence of the man-made instruments is not a matter of economics (cannot afford one) or preference (we just like to sing). It goes much deeper than any “church of Christ” or “restoration” heritage or tradition. It has to do with faith and our desire to follow God’s instructions. We are convinced He said “sing.”
    When a man offers a gift to his wife, the considerate thing to do is to offer a gift that will please her. She is the recipient of the gift. I may want a rifle, a new computer or a truck. But if I’m going to give something to her that she will appreciate, I will select something I believe will please her not me. I will take into consideration all I know of her, in particular, what she has said she likes and wants. My gift will be based on her will not mine.
    As God’s people, we want to offer worship to Him in response to His greatness and grace to us. In offering that worship, what’s important? What I want, or what He wants? You will agree, the most important thing is what God wants. The right course to take is to offer that worship to God that I know will please Him.
    How can I find out what pleases Him? I can consult His Word! I don’t need to even consider human preferences, denominational practices, historical precedence or majority desire. I do not need to bother myself with a “market study” or poll of human opinion. If I want to know what pleases God I can read what He has said about worship, determined to worship Him in spirit and truth (Jno. 4:24; 2 Jno. 9).
    This quest takes me to the New Testament. I want to know what the apostles of Christ did, since these were the men through whom the will of God was conveyed (1 Cor. 1:1; 1 Cor. 2:10-12). The apostles - in their practice and instruction - endorsed only one kind of music in worship to God, vocal. If any instrument is involved at all it is only in the figurative sense, the heart (Eph. 5:19).
    Paul and Silas, “at midnight … were praying and singing hymns to God,” (Acts 16:25). To the church at Corinth Paul said, “sing with the understanding,” (1 Cor. 14:15). He instructed the saints at Ephesus: “speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” (Eph. 5:19). In another place he wrote: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord,” (Col. 3:16). Is anyone cheerful? “Let him sing psalms,” (Jas. 5:13). {See also: Matt. 26:30; Mk. 14:26; Rom. 15:9 & Heb. 2:12.}
    This clear and simple evidence demands the kind of admission you will read in the Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia (p.1163): “There is no record in the N.T. of the use of instruments in the musical worship of the church.” Or in A History Of The Christian Church (p.112): “Singing formed an essential part of the Christian worship, but it was in unison and without musical accompaniment,” (Lars P. Qualben). Other early historians and writers agree: “Simply singing is not agreeable to children (Jews), but singing with lifeless instruments and with dancing and clapping is. On this account the use of this kind of instruments and of others agreeable to children is removed from the songs of the churches, and there is left remaining simply singing” (Justin Martyr, 139 ad). Augustine describes the singing at Alexandria in 354 ad by saying “musical instruments were not used. The pipe, tabret, and harp here associate so intimately with the sensual heathen cults … it is easy to under the prejudices against their use in the worship.”
    Strange isn’t it? All the years of controversy; all the debates, disputes and division. Then you open your Bible and focus on what God said. There it is: God said “sing.” Don’t you think this is what He wants us to do?
    Why did Noah use gopher wood in building the ark? God said “gopher wood.” Why did Abraham leave his homeland and venture into Canaan? God said “go.” Why did Joshua instruct the Israelites to march around Jericho? Because God said to do that. Why did the apostles wait in Jerusalem after Jesus ascended into heaven? That’s what Jesus told them to do. Why do Christians today partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week? God has communicated His will regarding this memorial in the New Testament.
    So, why do we sing? God said “sing.” This is serious because, “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John. 9).

      @grannytam2900 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is beautiful singing. The Bible often mentions musical instruments in praising God. The WHOLE Bible is God's Word. God warns us of taking away from His Word. Musical instruments were definitely used in worship in the Old Testament (1 Chronicles 15:16; 16:42; 23:5; 2 Chronicles 7:6; 23:13; 29:26-27; 30:21; 34:12; Nehemiah 12:36; Isaiah 38:20; Amos 6:5; Habakkuk 3:19; see also the introductions to Psalm 4:1; 6:1; 54:1; 55:1; 61:1; 67:1; 76:1). The fact that the New Testament nowhere condemns musical instruments indicates that the Old Testament practice was continued in the New Testament church. The early church was comprised almost entirely of Jews. It is highly likely that they continued using musical instruments in the church, just as they did in Old Testament worship.
      So, even without an explicit New Testament reference, it is clear the church can use musical instruments in its worship. However, there is a clear New Testament reference to musical instruments. Ephesians 5:19 declares, "speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord." The phrase "making melody" comes from the Greek word "psallontes" which means "to rub or touch," "to twitch or twang." It was commonly used in Greek to refer to playing a stringed musical instrument. Whatever the case, the Bible neither forbids or commands the use of musical instruments in church. Therefore, the church has freedom to use them if it feels led of God to do so.

    • @ellafel3
      @ellafel3 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, the use of instruments were used in the Old Testament, So was the sacrificing of animals, do we do that today? No..Old Testament usage was commanded. But it begs the question to assume that the New Testament does so, too. Think on how many acts of Old Testament worship are not prescribed in the New Testament! What if we circumcised our male babies as an act of worship today? It was commanded in the Old Testament. Were a male Israelite infant not circumcised, then the Old Testament commanded: “that person shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant” (Genesis 17:14; cf. Lev. 12:3).
      The New Testament Pattern:
      Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “… be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord” (5:18-19). He also wrote to the Colossians, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God” (3:16). It is here, in these two passages, that we find our instruction for what God would have us do when we sing (incidentally, we are talking about any worshipful singing, as the text does not necessarily connote a “worship service,” thus any song-filled praise to God must conform to these passages).
      First, notice that both require that the Spirit/Word dwell in us. To try to worship God without an understanding of His will for us is much like working in the dark. Better to let the light shine on us so we can see. Better to understand His will so we can know. Second, one of the benefits of singing to God is teaching and helping each other. That is why the words of many songs sound like mini-sermons, so that some teaching may take place as we sing. That is also why we should pay careful attention to the words and avoid songs which are not grounded in scripture.
      You mentioned that in Ephesians 5:19 that The phrase "making melody" comes from the Greek word "psallontes" which means "to rub or touch," "to twitch or twang." It was commonly used in Greek to refer to playing a stringed musical instrument.
      Many people have appealed to the Greek word psallo as an argument for the instrument, but all of the translators agree that the New Testament usage of the word is “sing.” In addition, if it did mean to play, all those involved in worship (meaning the whole congregation) would have to have an instrument to play in order to fulfill the command, i.e. you could not psallo without an instrument.
      Finally, we make our plea for Bible authority. There is no New Testament passage authorizing the use of instrumental music. We cannot condone what is not authorized, no matter how it sounds, no matter what other religious people do, no matter what some may desire, no matter what. We must stand on the Bible, and New Testament practice is clearly that of singing and singing alone.

    • @250sandlewood
      @250sandlewood 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't sacrifice animals bc of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. This argument makes no sense and has little logic.

    • @bonjourrj
      @bonjourrj 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ellafel3 The harps in heaven are enough for me to know what Heaven wants. Revelation and the worship around the throne. But here are some more NT references: The only instruments specifically mentioned as being played in the New Testament are flutes at Jairus’ daughter’s wake (Matthew 9:23), harps played by the 24 elders before God’s throne (Revelation 5:6) and the tribulation saints (Revelation 15:2), and the trumpets that herald some end-time events, including the rapture (1 Corinthians 15:52). The other references to musical instruments in the New Testament are either metaphors or descriptions of sounds. Metaphors include the uselessness of a harp, pipe, or trumpet that can’t be heard (1 Corinthians 14:7-8) and a comparison of John the Baptist’s asceticism to Jesus’ freedom to eat and drink (Matthew 11:17). Descriptions of musical sounds include a sound from heaven introducing the new song of the 144,000 (Revelation 14:2). At Babylon’s destruction, harpists, pipers, trumpeters, and other musicians will no longer be heard (Revelation 18:22). In the parable of the Prodigal Son, the older son hears music at the celebration for the younger son’s return (Luke 15:25).
