Esse filme tem um carinho imenso do povo brasileiro. Wagner Moura e Lazaro Ramos são praticamente irmãos. E ambos, quando adolescentes estiveram ligados ao Bando de Teatro Olodum, a quem o filme homenageia, uma fundação de apoio ao negro em Salvador, na Bahia. O roteiro dessa peça de teatro foi escrito pelas próprias crianças e adolescentes do bairro. Por isso ela enfatiza as contradições, as discriminações, as religiosidades, os cortiços, a índole festeira dos moradores, o carnaval, o sagrado, o profano a sexualidade e os problemas das crianças. Não é uma maravilha cinematográfica, até pelo caráter amador, mas expressa perfeitamente o que é a Bahia, sua cultura, sua musica de carnaval e seus problemas.

There's a good movie called Cidade Baixa where both are main characters. Another good friend of them also from the same city is Vladimir Brichta who played Bingo.
Fun and tragic film. The children left me impacted and devastated. Bahia is a Brazilian state with a culture of religious syncretism, customs and sounds. Adorable. There is the film "Capitães da Areia" based on the book by Jorge Amado.

It's abt this Guy who kidnapped a plane in 1988, and his goal was to crash the plane in the plateau palace (like idk the Brazilian white house, where the president IS) bc he was Very angry with the recent economic crisis. As Far as I know abt the case the movie was realistic with what actually happened!
The part where Lázaro Ramos sings a quiet song with the acoustic guitar reminds me the movie Black Orpheus (Orfeu Negro, 1959), a brazilian classic. It may be a reference to it. You can find it also on TH-cam with subtitles.

Não tem nada de seco essa região aqui. Salvador e a maior parte da Bahia são de clima temperado e extremamente úmido. Alguns poucos lugares da caatinga e semiárido que é seco em algumas épocas do ano.

Esse filme é maravilhoso. Mostra um amor de mãe baiana, no próprio seio da cultura daqui. Uma mãe se apega a "qualquer coisa" para ajudar aos seus filhos - mesmo sendo um auxílio em uma outra religião que não acredita. Esse filme, apesar de caricato, mostra que muito. A atriz que faz Joana merece um reconhecimento extremo. A angústia dela me faz chorar mesmo assistindo a mesma cena por anos. É lindo demais a entrega. A Bahia é multicultural, e Salvador é uma cidade "multi" em si só: na religião, na fé, na musicalidade, na arte de rua. Boa reação.
