I don't speak for other schools, but during my years in high school, there were two deaf kids in my class, the school provided a LIBRAS (Brazilian sign language) interpreter. Everyone in the class did our best to include them, in other classes there were students with visual and physical disabilities. Doesn't mean it was a paradise of inclusion, but for them, I'm sure Which was very important. That said, I want to say that I love your reactions to Brazilian films! I love this film, I watched it when I was a teenager and I have a very fond memory of it.

I'm glad your experience seems positive, but in the matter of case, we need to consider regular schools need to include all students with disabilities, but deaf people in special must have the option for bilingual education, where Sign Language is the most used language, seemingly as indigenous and quilombolas ways of education.
Deaf people in particular need this due to have their proper language. Other desabilitou must have inclusion granted.

Here in Brazil, the education system favors and values people with disabilities attending the same schools as people without disabilities. This is an educational project aimed at inclusion, which I particularly think is very good. Of course, there are specific schools for the visually impaired, where they learn sign language, etc., but in general, there is a governmental, pedagogical and family preference for inclusion in schools that are for everyone! Depending on the disability, in the case of intellectual disabilities, for example, the classrooms with these students have an additional teacher, with specialized training, who supports these students! Of course, this is the law and not all schools comply with it, but by going to court, parents can get what is guaranteed to them in the law. The school in the film in question is a private school, which, because it is private, has more resources and specialized and trained professionals to provide the proper support!
When these inclusion laws were created, there were many protests in society. Parents whose children didn't have disabilities complained that their children would be disadvantaged, but nowadays, this criticism hardly exists anymore, because everyone wins, in coexistence, in learning to live with difference! Everyone becomes a better, more developed human being!

Before making the movie, "Hoje eu quero voltar sozinho" (today i wanna go home alone), the director was told to try making a short film as a test, and so he did. The short is titled "Eu não quero voltar sozinho" (i dont wanna go home alone, and idk if it has an adaptation for english), and thats what the movie title is changed for on that frame right before Leo riding the bike.
Btw i think the father's comment about how Giovana has grown is a joke on the fact that she got taller between the two productions

I love how heart-warming, how gentle is the approach of The Way He Looks. Even though Leo is a blind kid and certainly has his peculiarities, almost every teenager (gay or not) can identify with him or the other characters in this film, because everything here is so real. So, above all, is a very inclusive film too. One of the best coming-of-age movies, for sure.
I have a movie recommendation (which has probably already been recommended): Basic Sanitation, the Movie. A fun comedy with Wagner Moura, Camila Pitanga, Fernanda Torres (daughter of Fernanda Montenegro - yes, nepobabys can be amazing too!) and many more.

There's a bazillian softwer engenieer called Lucas Radaelli, he's blind and he talks about how he lives an independent life. We tend to have this conceptions about blind people being in constant fragility but specially nowadays they have many aids to go on with life as any other person. I remember when this movie came out there was quite an polemic about the romance, not only because it's a same sex romance but because some peole used to think the non blind character was taking advantage of the blind character, back then I remember being confused about it but now I see it doesn't make any sense, they're just regular people, everyone deserves to be loved and have it being questioned just because of a sight disability is quite cruel (not saying you did this in the reaction, just something I remember being a topic back then). And for a movie recomendation: As Boas Maneiras, is almost a fairy tale, witch to me is quite interesting cause most brazillian movies tend to be very anchored in reality and this one is just magical, a bit like Pan's Labyrinth in way

The actors were older than their characters, specially the one that played Gabriel, who was 25 at the time i guess

I love this movie! It was inspired by a short film with an almost identical name, practically the same story and the same actors! I had already seen the short film and I was very happy when the film came out a while later. The actor who played the blind man is not really blind!

Have you watched the short film Hoje eu Não quero voltar Sozinho , "Today I Don't Want to Go Back Alone" that gave rise to the feature film? And I also recommend the film Stomach "Estômago".

OH GOSH you watched one of my favourite lgbtq+ Brazilian movies! If you're up for suggestions, there is the "Flores Raras" movie which is also lgbtq+ and in fact tells the story of the relationship between Elizabeth Bishop and the Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares.

Someone said you should watch Turma da Mônica. I agree. But I think you should know the cartoon and the characteristics of the characters first. In English, it is called Monica's Gang. Knowing the history of the creation of Turma da Mônica, the experience will be richer.

Very much because of this movie, I recommend the video for the song "Flutua" (floating), in which a sub-theme of the video is hearing impairment and, as the main theme, homophobia!
Johnny Hooker and Lineker are two great Brazilian artists! Prepare to be thrilled!
