  • Hello everyone!
Sorry for a long break:( I was moving to a new place while working and had not much time to work on the videos. And this one took a long time to edit.
I have seen many people including my students using a ping pong robot.
Even though it can be helpful, most of the people didn't have a good idea how to train with robot and I observed that they were getting good workout but not improving.
And during COVID, a machine can be useful. So I wanted to talk about few things that can help you improve by training with a ping pong robot!
Things you need to remember are
    1. How to set up properly
    2. Moving your feet and position all the time
    3. Don't try to learn new technique
    4. Have sets and breaks
    5. Place a target
There are many more things that can help you while using a robot but these are the things that you really want to think about if you want to improve by training with the robot.
I have a great news to share on the next coming video!
Thank you everyone who watches my video to support my channel.
Uploading the videos have been quite slow on my channel as I wanted to make each one of them to be as high quality as possible so that you save your time while getting the most helpful information. (And obviously I am pretty bad when it comes to editing...)
But stay with me, I have tons and tons that I really want to share that will help everyone to improve.

Tip of the Day: I have been using the robot 6 days a week for over 1.5 years and I can crack some shots that I could not do prior plus my endurance is really good. The downside is that you will start trying to play the same as you do on the robot and frustration will set in, the best way to go about it is to do your robot training and then put it away for two weeks and train match play only. when you determine your problems/weakness you can go back and work on these with the robot. It takes a lot of hours if you're trying to perfect a stroke but in time it will magically appear the more match play you engage in...my current level is above my service return skills that is the one major problem with the robot that match play will be needed for but, you can practice serves if you buy the correct robot, the new robopong will do this...

I agree with all of your precautions about using robots. I fell into every one of the traps that you mentioned! I only began to correct the bad habits I developed from using a robot after I found a good coach. One of my favorite training exercises that my coach taught me was to slow the tempo way down and to hit one ball and shadow twice before hitting the next ball. He had me do this while incorporating movement. I am now much more careful, and much more intentional about using the robot.

Very useful video. If I may suggest something. at the end of the video, I noticed at around 8:40 you are starting hop up and down a bit. You are an amazing player and will smooth this out. I did the same but oftentimes this leads to hitting the ball uncontrolled. I think it is recommended to keep a low profile and not go up an down, keep the upper body relaxed.
if I would do this, I would record myself and regularly double check if I do something newly weird

This is great! I've been looking for good Amicus Prime content.
Question: do you have any ideas on a good target to use for practicing shot depth? I really like the idea of a target with auditory feedback like yours, but I'm concerned I would still hit it even if my shot was short, or worse, too long. I was thinking about putting towels on the table, leaving only the last foot or so exposed, that way it only hits the table if I hit it long. But I really like the ringing sound! Off to the kitchen in search of targets...

      @roadtopro3038  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I actually wanted to invent one! And that is still in my bucket list. Something nice to use is a flat plastic clipboard that has different color which makes a little louder sound when hit. I will think about it and get back to you! A white paper works too:)

Would you share your settings for practicing the stroke techniques for FH Drive, FH Loop and FH Topspin?
I have created my own, but I'm curious and interested in what yours are like.
Also, The robot's heights adjustment post looks much higher than mine. This is no biggie, just acknowledging that both need to be the same if sharing settings.
Settings will vary for each player, but maybe settings categories could be for Beginner, Intermediate, Hard, World Class, Legendary.

    • @roadtopro3038
      @roadtopro3038  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Settings are not too different from the levels but for the purpose! You can do what you want to do with robot and that’s good thing. For forehand drive, try to have the set up so that the ball has a slight of topspin 1-2 and drops around 3/4 on the table and the top of the bounce should be at the endline and the height of the ball should be about 2-4inches higher from the top of the net. This is good height and length to practice forehand drive. Fh loop and topspin I assume are the same, and for the setting just try to have the top of the bounce a little longer than fh drive so that you can loop from zone 3. Take a look at my zone video. And if you meant topspin as a counter loop then that’s zone 4. So each zone is about a foot difference.

Thank you for watching! Amicus prime is one of the latest and up to date ping pong robot. As it is sophisticated, it is also delicate. So I would recommend you to have only coaches or staff to handle the robot to set up for customer use since it’s quite expensive. Good thing is that it’s very easy to use so it should be pretty much self explanatory.

I have read lot of comments and conversations in comment section..
Sharing my POV, coaches are not all the time correct.
I am penholder, sometime my coach teaches me something crap, which is not even relevant with my style or racket (i.e. he teaches me to finish all the time infront of head, if you see Ryu seung min, his swing ends up farther then infront of head. Similarly playing a underspin you racket ends vertically up, instead of infront of head
I would suggest keep practising, you will find your own style.
For example, Dang qiu (European champion) plays slighlty different then typical chinese style, check his index finger curl if you are penholder.
Similarly, Wang hao looks like not including much of forehand and wrist power.
Ma lin uses different one finger on backside..etc etc..
By practising you can develop lot more natural skills, then following strict coaches.
For amateur basics you may need assistance on some extent.
    Opened up for discussion :).
Please share penhold based videos on smashes if somebody have.
    Best wishes.

I dont have a coach, other than you on the online patreon and some people I can consult with. I am trying to coach myself by filming myself, but it is really hard. The other day, I was using the machine in a training facility where some top level players were playing. It was a swedish player visiting us here in norway to play. When he walked by he told me that "you should only train one stroke at a time when training with a robot". A lot of people want to give advice, but some of the advice are in conflict with each other. Do you think doing a falkenberg drill with a robot is good?

@@karlingram9581 I never said that I MASTERED these strokes, just that I learned how to do those strokes. And I am also sure that my techniques can be greatly improved. I have lots of room for improvement, consistency, speed, spin, placement, etc. But using the robot, for the first time in my life I was finally able to "learn" the basics about how to do these strokes. And each month I am getting a little better at each stroke. I also pay lots of attention to my game deficits and design more drills to help me overcome my deficits. I think robots are great, especially during covid or when you cannot find an available partner for multi-ball.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood your comment. I'm in total agreement with Coach Daniel that robots CAN lead to developing bad habits. I learned this the hard way. I am still trying to unlearn these habits. There were three main bad habits I developed from using a robot:
      Improper foot placement
      Improper ball contact
      Improper follow through and recovery
There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have developed these bad habits had I first learned from a good coach. I still love my robot; I use it on a daily basis. I am now in the process of deciding which robot I will buy next. So yes, I fully intend on continuing to use a robot, but I am far more intentional in how I use robots.

It’s one of the best ways to develop a wrong habit because sometimes it seems like it’s working but you may be doing not efficiently (properly). So if you really want to try, either have a coach while you practice and have a coach take a look at your form. Or, you can even record yourself and compare with other players that you wish to follow.
My personal experience is that even the people who thought they knew what they were doing were doing it not properly with the robot for hours then they had to spend much more time to fix. But it’s totally up to you! In the end, it’s to have fun and get some workout.
Try 60balls per min to see if it’s too fast or slow. From there you can increase or decrease the tempo!
