Sam Yoo That's where you're wrong. If I can afford a 10 year old S-class today, I doubt there will be any problems getting this in 15 years. Add that the price on gas will be about a third higher by then and the second hand-price of these will drop like a stone in water. I will however still not be able to afford insurance or gas for it, but I will have to car! :)

PureS0u1 Yes, but after 15 years those who bought it after 10 years will have replaced much of the parts that broke down, making it easier to maintain. Or so I hope.

+chancy319 Naah. Been driven in a BMW 5 and 7 series. An Audi A4, A6, and A8 and a Mercedes E and S class.
From the perspective of a rear seat passenger i would say that the Mercedes S class is the best but the A8 definitely a better car than the BMW 7 series.

I thought when I was 20 or 25, that I liked Ferraris and wanted a roadcar that would feel like a racing car. And I thought that when I got old, like 40 or 45, I might want a luxury car like an S class. Now I'm 52, which is not all that old any more... There is a certain appeal about a big luxo barge, and the top S class is about as high up that tree as you can get, but you know what? I hanker these days after a Pagani Huayra. The La Ferrari is nice too, but semi-electric and all very new-age. Mr Pagani has built the car I have dreamed of all these years. I might also have a front engine rear drive 4 door, with some performance and handling, for more day-to-day things, but the S class is just not something I lust after. A new 991 gen GT2 turbo, yes - very much so, even if I am an old man now. Maybe it'd kill me inside a week, but that week ... what a way to go!

Jonas Rosenven No dear it is not silly. Just read J.D.Power 2013 US VEHICLE DEPENDIBILITY STUDY ( VDS ) . Land rover is at the bottom of the list. Just confirm it.

I think if you want to buy a really big and expensive car, this is about the best you will get. I rather have this one than a Bentley. ;)
Nothing wrong with the Audi, but just like BMW they are in my opinion better with coupes and fast sedans, then with full size limousines. ;)
The steering ofset to left is a good thing for me. In my 2008 e280 (left hand drive), it allows me to relax my left elbow on the door sides while cruising on motorway and allowing right hand to grip more firmly but comfortably while overtaking for instance. also roundabouts are anti-clockwise, allowing the same benefits.

The Mercedes-Benz S Class is just pure first class motoring. If I had the money, I would buy a top of the range V12 AMG LWB any day over a Rolls Royce or Bentley equivalent and with the £175K I would save, I'd treat myself to a small motor boat too!
But if you had the money, go big or go home.

I have seen one with diamond stitching and two tone interior : navy blue seat and brown dashboard, that looks the best.
No matter what they come up with, Mercedes has always been, is and will be an old guy or lady car. GO AUDI. A perfect balance on luxury, style, technology and modern car.

Haha, this is a popular Uber car in Norway. Drove it today, didn't cost more than a normal cab, which is why it's being banned..
I was about to order the new S63 AMG but my dad's friend working at MB advised me to wait for the S65 with the new direct injection V12 which is apparently going to be absolutely mindblowing in all regards. I wouldn't call this the 'long' version anymore as a stretched version is coming soon. Intermediate? And for the first time in the S-Class history, the L version looks more balanced than the SWB. Odd that such a huge car displays an offset steering wheel but mine will be LHD so alles gut ;)

Honestly, I think when it comes to the exterior of this car, its predecessor looks much better.
This is probably the best and safest car in the world . But if I could afford this kind of thing I would have the monster ///AMG version

I have merc. And I did notice the offset of steering wheel but I don't feel un comfort at all, in fact I think benz meant to do this to put the driver in a position of showing off ;)

ive seen a flaw in this car if the passenger has the rear seat in the reclined position the front passenger seat tips forward(fair enough) until the driver comes to a junction and cant see through the side window as the seat is in the way lol
Actually the Lexus LS was the first to have that seating package. Controlling front seats as well.
The AC vents reminds me of Rolls Royce Phantom, which is great ! :)

The Range Rover essentially is the S-class of the offroader segment. Or the suburban white soccer mom segment. Either/ or, whichever you like.
And how has the reliability of the S-Class been over the years? The answer tells you why people have bought the Lexus LS instead.

So a Volvo V70 have a bad turning circle and this quite longer car hasn't? The lenght must be a problem when it comes to spaces as it should need much of it which is a problem in towns. This car looks to be at least 16,4 ft?

The S class truly is S tier by the looks of it. So you can buy the most modern, luxurious car in the world that's powerful, comfortable and efficient for less than £100k. Bentley and Rolls Royce must've been raking in the profits in the past decade!
On that price range without missing a bit I'll buy the Audi A8.

It's a comfortable car anyways, especially if you have air suspension. The Audi S7 can come with big wheels but because of air ride suspension it is a pretty nice ride.

I don't think the off center steering wheel affects the left hand drive in the American model. It appears to only affect the European models.
it is magic... and it really works. if you got the money its worth it, and if you can afford a new s-class 500 you probably got the money anyway.
This car is so advanced that when it detects that you're going to be rear ended, it will apply the breaks of the approaching car for you.
Best s class ever, still looks amazing, and way better than the new one in fact.

See now a car like this engorges one to make more money, what an amazing machine. I would take this over a Bentley yes and I even sat in this car at the dealership for just one minute and my back felt way better afterwards

Anyone know why are car maker offsetting the steering wheel to the side?
The ones I had drove and handled well for large cars. I was hit by a drunk driver. His car was wrecked but I able to limp home in the Benz. However, like the many other owners in national surveys, I found mine very unreliable. Finally, when yet another major repair loomed, I switched to a Japanese brand and never looked back.

Love this car! Now, to try and acquire one...
I have had the last 3 generations of 7 Series. I currently have W222 S Class and in every way the S Class is just better. But where it falls short of the 7 is that it is an uninvolving drive. I have looked at the current 7 Series (not driven) and can't help feeling the interior is full of tech, for the sake of show. Also the new 7 feels like a 5 when coming out of an S Class, its just smaller.
I know, the point is that they advertised the facelift as having "LED stop lights", when they clearly are not. I wonder if these S class brake lights have the same working principle or if really there is a string of LED lights bacl there...
Can't wait to see what the S-Class will look like when combustion engines are a thing of the past and it's as green as all the other electric cars on the road. Then I'd never feel a little guilty about buying a top-range model (if I could ever afford it, that is)
