Such an important and beautiful coin!

The coin is worth even more, about 5M quid in my opinion. I think the problem was that the other example sold at the 1993 Zurich Sotheby's sale at such a ridiculous price (something like 500k or 550k CHF, I don't remember exactly) at the liquidation of the NAC stock of coins. That auction was a massacre. I still have a hardbound copy of the Sale catalogue.

Haha so glad you recorded this! Sometimes I fantasize about creating an ESPN Classic for live ancient coin auctions (or live feeds) where people can rewatch years-old auctions. Some amazing and memorable things happen on occasion! I meant to record the one recently at NAC but forgot (and didn't really plan ahead about whether they'd be okay with it).

I didn't actually ask whether they'd be OK with it for this aureus sold at Roma not the one at NAC honestly, but I suspected neither the Russos nor Roma numismatics would mind a bit of free publicity. If they asked me to I would have no problem removing these videos. If I had more time I'd try to record a full auction or something but I am lucky if I get the time to sit through the full Roman Republic section

Minting a coin bragging about killing the leader of the nation. The ultimate flex, gold too.

Rick from Pawn Stars didn’t want to pay >$110k (customer wanted $140k) for a silver version of this coin which was not this coins grade. I am sure if it was placed directly after this sale it would have reached $500k from a prior bidder.

Sad news: in January, the coin was seized by the District Attorney of Manhattan and the owner of Roma Numismatics went into jail for fraud, with the next court hearing scheduled for May. Allegedly the impressing provenance (and possibly the coin itself) were fabricated by the owner and a staff member of Roma Numismatics.

No one really knows what Caesar would have done (and thus the direction of history itself) if he hadn't been assassinated. Probably the single most important (secular) artefact in the entire world.

The ITalian penninsula, .25% of the world's land mass, is the richest land in the world. IT ( IT-ALIA) produced more in value than the rest of the 99.75% of the world combined!
Even Britannia, with the western Roman capital of Londonis, profited once again on this tiny coin.
    That is IT!

Lovely coin but I heard there was a prob with its origins and is now gone back to Greece where it was apparently found. Was on news last month.
