  • L.A. Guns is a hard rock/Sleazy Glam band from Los Angeles, California. The first incarnation of the group was formed, by Tracii Guns, in 1983 and included singer William Bailey, a.k.a W. Axl Rose, bassist Ole Beich and drummer Rob Gardner. Bailey would leave the group to front Rapidfire before going on to form Hollywood Rose with Izzy Stradlin. L.A. Guns disbanded in 1985 following its merger with Hollywood Rose, becoming the first lineup of Guns N' Roses.
After leaving Guns N' Roses in 1985, Tracii Guns joined Paul Black, Robert Stoddard (a.k.a. Ned Christie, ex singer with UK band The Dogs D'Amour), Mick Cripps and Nickey Alexander. Initially the project began as a collaboration between Black and Cripps called Faster Pussycat. The name was changed back to L.A. Guns when Tracii Guns entered the band.
After writing and demoing material and playing shows, the group signed a deal with PolyGram Records. Shortly after this signing Paul Black was replaced by former Girl singer Philip Lewis.
The band then went on to record and release its eponymous debut album, simply titled "L.A. Guns. The album featured six songs co-wrote by former singer Paul Black...
    Paul Black - Lead Vocals
    Tracii Guns - Lead Guitar
    Robert Stoddard - Rhythm Guitar
    Mick Cripps - Bass Guitar
    Nickey "Beat" Alexander - Drums

    Hey Guys,
Would be great to see some more stuff around the Robert-era of LA Guns. I caught that lineup a couple times in SF clubs during the time, and they were great. "LAPD" was a cool track and the band was more original--especially with Robert's Stones/Thunders/new wave style. Also, with Nickey Beat it was a much different band. I may have some flyers from the period.

Oh......my...... God.........So, tonight I was watching the hilariously funny 80s movie "Night Patrol" and I was intrigued by the theme song "L.A.P.D.". It is sort of Oingo Boing-esqe, so I got to looking and found out Robert Stoddard wrote it..... Anyway, check out the beginning of the movie if you want to hear this metal song, but in a synthesized Oingo Boingo version....

Would love to hear The Robert Stoddard Band original again. They were one of my favorite bands at the time. If I remember right, Elektra wanted them to record multiple versions of the song for different cities, and when they refused to, the record company lost interest in them.

I was the producer/engineer for Robert Stoddard's Elektra release "LAPD. Great record but nothing became of it.

Was this song ever on the debut album? I thought it was, but for some reason I can't find anything about this song other than this demo. Paul Black singing this song is awesome.

No. This is a song from their demo before Phil Lewis joined the band. That's Paul Black singing.

I can't recall how I heard of Paul Black, but I found Black List online when it was released in 2005 and LAPD is one of the best songs.

Not true - they did a single deal and LAPD did not get enough interest - it was not released officially - just a promo release for radio. I was his gf at the time .
