    Another cracking video Stephen. Nothing worse than someone chopping down your campsite 😂The Ridge Raider is brilliant. Definitely a niche product but I simply love mine. Thank you for the shoutout mate. Much appreciated. You even make it sound like I know what I'm talking about 😂. Hope you've had a brilliant Christmas and have a great 2022

      Thanks Paul! It wasn’t a shout-out though it was a complaint about you making me spend money! 😝🤣

    Great video and superb countryside, there is definitely a bit of trial and error involved in getting used to the Ridge Raider. I use my shoes on my hands technique just like you did and put my sit mat just outside the entrance for when I'm out enough to be able to stand up. I always have to get up to pee several time during the night so my main issue is getting back into my sleeping bag in the pitch dark backwards (over my rucksack). I've experimented with putting my pack (normally Osprey Talon 44) at the bottom below my feet but now always pull it in behind my head. Last time out I even managed a change of clothing inside with the door zipped, it probably looked weird from the outside but I managed ok.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This why I now always carry a pee bottle or strong ziplock bag. No more leaving the tent to pee. Game changer 😂
      I keep thinking of selling mine but there’s something about it keeps bringing me back

    04:15. I know that feeling only too well, one of my favourite local wild camping spot was a tiny glade in a flooded birch wood with moorland by the side, an area of scientific interest. One day I discovered the area with my glade had been chopped down and the moorland had been dug up, flooded to the extent it closely resembled a WW1 trenched battle field. 😩🧐😢I never did discover why, I’m pretty sure it was official though. It’s grown back on the moorland but my beautiful little glade is a distant memory. ☹️
    On another note, love your humour, subscribed. 😁
    Actually just bought a Rab Raider this morning, which is why I viewed your video, have a Dutch a hooped one, but too low, the Rab is 15cm higher, that makes all the difference.

    For the weight I'd rathar use something like a TN laser comp compact, at 960g it's only slightly heavier and has more space and is actually cheaper.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  ปีที่แล้ว

      wow the TN laser compact 1 has dropped in price, last time I looked it was £600. Can see it down to £385, still nearly £100 more expensive than the ridge raider though.
      But I do agree that more space would be useful, especially in bad weather.

      Always my go to when I’m looking a review for something outdoors. Yeah the Oex tent is a bargain. It’s v small but does the job and low profile makes it quite wind resistant

    Laughed me bag off were has the trees gone 😳😳😳. Cool channel. I have the Rab ridge raider pre 2021 without the pole at the bottom end. Kinda always wanted to put something at the bottom end to raise the bivvi off me feet. Not that it really needed it in heavy rain. Me 45l sabre always did the trick. I can't find any picks online of how Rab have raised the bottom end of the raider, any chance of a few pics. U don't need to fire up the drone ffs Cecil 😂😂😂

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah I really like the updated design makes it feel more like a tiny tent than a bivvi.
      No fabric sitting on you all night.
      There’s now a small pole which is sewn inside the fabric at the bottom, so you just have to add tension with the guylines and it’s raised up.

    Cool video Stephen. I have an Australian swag bag I use when going on motorcycle camping trips. Its kinda like a big bivi bag. It can be erected in 5 minutes too. Clean clothes, matteress and pillow all rolled up inside also well worth the money costing £350.00 I also enjoy watching Paul review camping gear. Fair play to him also

    • @StephenJReid

    Must have been a weird feeling there at that chopped forest; expecting lotsa trees, doubting yourself you're at the right place, checking and finally realisation your plan isn't going to work (at that location).
    Love the skimming-of-the-belly of the clouds aerial footage :-)

    I felt bad for Gary when you shook the tent 😂 He is a gas man. The softie suit is something I am considering, they look good but I was worried about the pack size. Delighted to see you enjoyed using a hooped bivvy and its a real shame about that woodland. Great video as always 👍

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!
      Gary is a delight in the morning 😂 Softie suit is my favourite winter camping purchase. Looks ridiculous but it’s so warm. I use the top instead of carrying a down jacket. But doesn’t pack down super small. Worth it for not freezing, in winter I bring as much stuff as possible because it’s just miserable if you can’t stay warm.
      Yeah really like the bivvy, find it kind cozy getting squeezed into it. Plan is to mostly use it for solo fastpacking adventures in colder weather or when I am going to camp somewhere exposed.
      I have a lighter tarp & bivvy setup for warmer weather.

    I am saving up for this bivy. Actually how tall are you and can you stuff something like Focal 58 or Exos 58 in the feet area? ;) I would love bivy in which I could also keep my backpack and belongings.

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m 5’ 11” and I stuff my empty 70l pack back down beside my feet and there’s a bit of space at my head and at the sides. The 70l pack half rests on my legs but it’s not too bad when I empty

    I had the same problem a few year back , went to camp in a forest but on arrival it was a pile of logs 😂 I do like the look of the Rab bivi but pricey and having to manage my space would probably do my nut in . Still it was a great little adventure , 2 season sleeping bag this time of year = 🥶🥶⛺️ Tfs atb Dave

    • @StephenJReid
      @StephenJReid  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kinda inevitable it’ll eventually happen with a commercial forest but still sad and frustrating when a forest that has been there for decades disappears overnight.
      Yeah definitely a pricey bit of kit. Planning a few solo fast packing running trips with it. It’s pretty bomb proof as a shelter so hopefully worth it.

    Great video, I love your m8, makes a great duo lol. As for going fulltime on TH-cam, not for me; I make too much money with the businesses I'm in, to risk all on an Algorithm that leans towards the WOKE mentality and agenda (which as the pendulum is swinging is slowly dying, thank God).
