    "Pigs have flown in Boston, Massachusetts!" Interesting way of putting it.

      They have that bat in the Hall. Only catcher to hit a Grand Slam in the cycle.

    Wow, his first double, first triple, and second homer of the season. He made those count.
    Excellent announcing too.

      Those were just his stats with the rangers, he had more doubles and homers with the giants before he got traded to Texas and this was back when mlb still counted NL and AL season stats separately

    Bengie Molina was a heavy over the hill catcher in his 13th season. He was 36 yrs old at the time he hit for this cycle. IN baseball terms, that's an old man. Few catchers make it to age 36 and stay in the league.
    So, is it really an overstatement for Josh Lewin to say "pigs have flown" I'd say not.
    He only had 6 career triples in 13 years -- and this was his last season in baseball!!! That's unlikely , to hit your only triple of the season in a cycle , come on man!

    • @MichaelJW72
      @MichaelJW72 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Not only was he old, but he had that "Molina speed" which is to say he had none.

    I was at this game on a visit to Boston (and am not a Red Sox fan). As soon as the CF dropped that ball I got up and started screaming "run you big fat%^&, run!" and I think all the fans around me thought I was completely out of my skull. Probably the coolest moment I have seen live, and I've been to a perfect game.

  • @wyssmaster
    @wyssmaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I suppose I can understand not giving the centerfielder an error on the triple, as he went a fairly long way, but that was definitely an error on the "double".

    • @Korijenkins1414
      @Korijenkins1414 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Probably not tbh. The main reason I would say it wasn't an error is the distance he had to run. He certainly COULD have caught it. But just because you CAN catch something doesn't make it an automatic error when you don't.

    • @catmanpc9166
      @catmanpc9166 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a "routine play", but certainly catchable and a favorable ruling (the double). Still glad he got the cycle. Great moment.

    Should say "molina hits for the GRAND SLAM cycle" in Boston

  • @RDSports5
    @RDSports5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Best hitter among the Molina brothers by far. Yadier is one of the best defensive catchers ever, and a really good bat in his prime, but his big brother Bengie was just a pure hitter. Had he been blessed with more of an athletic build, that guy could've been a really impressive hitter for several years, not just a few in his career

    • @bwfextreme
      @bwfextreme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s just not true. During Yadi’s peak offensive years of 2011-2013, he was a better hitter than most guys in the league. Bengie never batted over .300 in his career while Yadi did it 5 times. Bengie even walked far less than Yadi. I can’t even begin to comprehend what led you to believe that Bengie was a better hitter.

    As great as that was, the double and triple should have been called errors

    • @DarkSideMaceWindu
      @DarkSideMaceWindu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not really, hitting the glove doesn't automatically mean it should have been caught.

    • @AndrewBlechinger
      @AndrewBlechinger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Any fielder will tell you that the hardest catch is the one where they have to look over their shoulder to track the ball. Those were hits.
