Just wanted to thank you for this upload, I own a '16 Infiniti Q50 VR30 Red Sport 400 AWD (ridiculously long name for a model) I'm a bit of a enthusiast/diy'r. I have the FSM for my particular model, so I've done all the servicing/repair on my vehicle since I purchased it, except for tires and alignment. A couple of days ago my car randomly would not allow manual shift mode with either the paddles or shifter. Connected my Autel and read a P0720 on the ECM & TCM. Have heard many people mention transmissions having a "filter", however in my experience have never dropped the oil pan on a transmission or gotten into a TCM. I service my ATF at around 20-25k, some would argue that's too soon, however I can be hard on my car and our summers are quite hot in Atlanta. I use a 1 gallon hand pump and adapted the outboard fill fitting on the house and it works great. I had just serviced the fluid about an hour before the car threw the code. As I was cleaning up the pump I noticed black debris in the bottom of the pump reservoir, I started to clean the actual pump and every time I would perform a stroke up and then down with the pump handle, black chunks of mystery debris would shoot out of the pump and essentially contaminate whatever fluid was in the reservoir. So I got on my computer and headed over to the transmission section of my FSM and printed off the section relating to dropping the oil pan and removing the valve body / TCM. Removed the valve body and brought it inside, removed the filter portion, and began cleaning the mesh filter medium, I couldn't believe the amount of debris that was stuck onto that filter I ended up cleaning it vigorously four times to finally get all of the debris and friction material and God knows what else the stuff was completely out of the filter. I did a thorough cleaning of the valve body, and have already put the transmission back together and have started the oil filling procedure. So far all of my testing of the TCM & ECM have shown the problem to be resolved. The final test will be the test drive. With that being said finding your video and hearing you mention the filter was extremely resourceful, thanks again!
You are awesome! I remember the first transmissions I tore down for tech school. Those were just 3 speed turbo 350's and all the parts freaked me out. I've done Jatco's 40/50 series and CVT for Mitsubishi since they wouldn't replace them and we had no choice, but that's probably the simplest transmission I've seen. You just non nonchalantly lay parts from several transmissions all over the place. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. LOL I'm going to try again though, because I've got a Challenger with the ZF 8 speed and when the warranty runs out I want to be able to take care of it myself. Good job!
Too bad that there is very little information on these transmissions, can't even buy a filter. Stealership says non service item...They don't want to change the lifetime fluid ... Even the solenoids numbers can be the same number but have different voltage values for different years and models. Then the ecu won't know what to signal... Many shops will not work on these. Your very meticulous Gary, nice work!
Gary, Great video! Thank you for pointing out the capped filler tube. I was wondering, does that filler tube go all the way to the oil pan? I ask because I would like to do a drain and fill on my transmission and per the factory manual the level needs to be set when the fluid is exactly 104F. Since I can't access the transmission temperature without the Nissan Consult computer, my thought was to use the filler port as a way to gauge the fluid temperature after I have done a drain and fill. Your thoughts sir?
Put in what you drain out, you will be close. You can use a infrared temp gun on the pan. You will be close when water temp gauge is normal zone after coolant thermostat opens. Filler tube goes into pan. I had the Nissan dealership do my G37S, a drain and fill only drained about 4 qts., they used Matic S fluid. Run it with brake on through gears a couple of times, car level. You would have to do 2 or three in a row to get it looking red and clean. I think I will use the Valvoline Max full Synthetic next time, it is Nissan approved. The Matic S says it's ester based...Which leads me to believe it is semi or non synthetic base oil with an ester package. Do not let anyone run solvent through or use a pressure based fluid exchange system. Tricky deal with no dipstick tube for jack stands and manual pump. Lifetime fluid they try to tell you. Bad joke! Nissan charged me about $150.00. But,will use their fluid.
@@GaryFerraro yes my g37 wouldn’t shift past 3rd gear and was throwing a code for a bad speed sensor but Infiniti said it was the valve body so they put a new one in it was a 2400 dollar fix (part was $1350).
Would a transmission from a 2015 Q50 AWD work in a 2014 Q50 AWD?? The transmission I’m looking at has 5K miles on it so I want to grab it if it’s compatible I’m just not sure, any input would help. My car was build 9/13 (2014) , The Transmission is from 11/14 (2015 Model Year) thank you so much in advanced!
Why are you doing it? it costs 160 dollars. take another one and put it on. How are you going to assemble this now? I scattered everything and filled it with oil. and what kind of interior is this? What is this, Russia?

My 2012 M37 is exhibiting these exact symptoms, thanks for this video. I'm going to tackle this job.
Not a bad trans to work on, be careful

ZF8 speed nice trans to work on, need special tools for that unit
Thanks for the time you take to put into these videos! You have your hands full with this one.
As always another well made informative video, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

Awesome videos I have a question I have a 6l90e off a 2011 2500hd. It doesnt go forward or reverse gears at all. I tried Drive reverse and manual.
So no movement at all? did this happen suddenly
@@GaryFerraro no movement at all. Idk the truck was given to me. So i dont know history
Yes the valve body is sold separately just put one in my g37 as it was failing

Can you rebuild mines
Tem como vc me da uma dica sobre este câmbio?
Not sure what you mean by exchange rate. Does the trans have a problem
