I like the way it sits above the tank

    • @jjaquariums
      @jjaquariums  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes your gonna need ferts eventually, I dont know about the seeds and how long they will take bc I've never done that, I always buy potted or tissue cultured, and if your not running co2 be careful on the dosing of the ferts bc a lot of algae will happen so only do like half the doing if that and your substrate should be fine but that type will run out of nutrients pretty fast like maybe in a year so you'll eventually have to add root tabs but I use ADA substrate which is the best but also very expensive but it's so good and heres the light link below

    • @jjaquariums
      @jjaquariums  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@meechgolden one other thing I would recommend which in my opinion and lots others is a must would be Seachem excel which is a carbon product which acts like co2 so when you dose it and your ferts your not gonna get algae bc even if you dose very little your still giving little bits of food to algae which will just make it grow, so if you had co2 then excel is not needed but with out it excel is a big help

    I am absolutely inlove with the look of a pretty rock formation and lush green carpet in front. I was wondering if a pearlweed carpet would be good for a first timer like myself. I really want Monte Carlo but I'm not too confident in trying it with my setup and have read that Pearlweed is more forgiving.
    So far my specs are
    Fluval Stratum Active Substrate
    Fluval Spec 2.6G /10L tank (About 11-12 inches deep)
    10W 7K LED light, it's about 1W per L and from the lighting guides I've read is considered high light at least for the size of my tank.
    I was thinking of using a good macro and micro fert like Thrive and Seachem Excel liquid CO2 to help with shortcomings and also having an ample amount of light.. I am even contemplating a dry start method if that's recommendable as well.

    • @jjaquariums
      @jjaquariums  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pearl weed is more of a stem so it's gonna be harder to maintain a carpet of that, and monte carlo is super easy, and even if you do a dry start even better bc it'll then grow full in your tank before you fill it up

    I used a very cheap organic compost from the hardware store. No co2, plants were pumping for about 3 yrs, but seem to be slowing now.
    I wonder if the moderate bioload helps create waste/compost that breaks down and feeds the plants, or do soil substrate tanks have a certain lifespan before they need a complete re-substrate.
    The plants are healthy and look fine, just not as vigorous any more.
