I appreciate your attempt to cover every team but there's many mistakes here in your assessment of habs players. Like saying that Barron has some solid stay at home play or that Roy will "get a shot at the bottom 6". Barron is abysmal outside of his occasional offensive scoring and will be fighting for a roster spot, and Roy is going to fight for that last spot in the top 6 along with Newhook. I also don't think Matheson is underrated, Savard is not the worst defensive D, maybe stats wise but he's got the biggest defensive responsiblities. Also I love Caufield like everybody else but he's clearly not the best forward. Suzuki is right now, but the level of play Slafkovsky has shown in the second half of the season , if maintained, would put him at number 1.

and all of the contract comps to slaf that he made were for older players. Those players spent their 18yo seasons not in the NHL, and produced at those rates at older, more seasoned ages.

Slightly more than half right, 9 of the 24 cups were won after the league expanded passed 6 teams. The habs are also the last Canadian team to have actually won the cup and are 1 of like 3 Canadian teams in the last decade or so whove actually made it to the cup finals

      You must be young!
Every team in the league would jump off of a mountain top rather than play the original six.
They were infinitely tougher. And everyone on the ice expected to bleed and most likely break a bone. They were not playing video games. They had families and day time jobs. They had to go sweat at work all day. Come home and get changed. Then go kill each other for 60 minutes.

Personnally i don't understand why the haters are busting the Montreal Canadiens balls because they have been missing the playoff . Did they understand that in the last 3 years. Montréal beat the NHL record for most injuries in a season. How do you want a team to perform when some of your best players are missing because of injuries. 4 years ago they were in the Stanley Cup Finale. in the 1970's 1980's 1990's 2000's 2010's we have been make the playoff most the time with a sub par Team on paper.
The Buffalo Sabres have been missing the playoff in 13 years.
The Ottawa Senators have been missing the playoff in the last 7 years.
The Toronto Maple Leafs did not participate in the Stanley Cup Final since their last cup in 1967. (56 years ago)
The only reason that i see that they motivate the haters to bust the Canadiens balls is just pure Jealousy ! That's right ! Jealousy !
Because no teams in the NHL came closed to the Canadien success over the years. No One except maybe The Vegas Golden Knights since 2017 vs 1909 for the Montréal Canadien.
P.S. When i saw the old arguments the Canadien had all the best Québecer rule. only 2 players where ever draft from that rule : Goalie Michel Plasse and forward Marc Tardif. They had abolish that rule.
P.P.S. When i heard Bruins fans bitching about Montréal is only Successful because they were only 6 club in the league. Should i remind the Bruins fans their club have been in the league since 1924. In 1923-1924 Montréal won their 2nd Stanley Cup so i remove those 2 cups. Since 1924 Montréal won 22 Stanley Cups vs 6 for the Bruins 3 cups in the (1928-1929; 1938-1939;1940-1941) original 6 era and 3 in the modern era (1969-1970;1971-1972 and 2010-2011). Half your cup is from that same Era. The only original 6 teams who have no success in the new era is
The Toronto Maple Leafs. (no cup since 1967).
For Montréal Original 6 era 14 cups vs 10 cups in the Modern Era.

Oh so you don't watch this team and know nothing about them, cool.
You use the fact that they have 3 top 5 picks as an argument that Marty should be doing better with the talent they have, while ignoring that only one of those picks has actually played on the team.
Most of the picks this front office has made haven't yet made the team.
Caufield might be the 3rd best forward on this team, but Laine might just make him the 4th. Even Dach might push him to 5th if he stays healthy.

For now I just have to applaud the management for focusing so much on creating a good team culture with their picks and signings, and they have shown with Sean Monahan that going to Montréal is a pretty good place to rejuvenate a career, which should help attract free agents, a major issue given that you're dealing with the highest taxes and arguably most obsessive fans in the league

No disrespect but some of your abysmal takes make it obvious that you don't follow Montreal daily. Cole Caufield wasn't even close to being the best Habs last year...and Salfkovsky was almost a point-per-game player in the second half of the season and him, Suzuki and Caufield were one of the best lines in the league from that point on. To pretend that SLAf's ceiling maybe 16 goals and 40 points is laughable.

I think you really underestimate Samuel Montembeault. He's not a star by any means but is definitely a starter. He just had to deal with one of the most ass defensive structure in the NHL. The only experienced players are Mastheson, a good offensive defensmen and Savard, at best a fourth or fifth defensive defensmen. Being behind that plumets goalies standard stats, you just have to look what happenned with Allen once he got traded to New Jersay

There is one big problem with many of these posts and almost all the comments.they mostly come from fans of a team rather than fans of the game which makes them poisoned by bias. I love the game and enjoy seeing any player or team do well. Even the lowest team in the league has great players and great moments we should all enjoy. But keep cheering for your team too.

MSL has the elevated intellect and experience to keep players growing as they proceed through their careers. Caufield? His shooting was at below 9%....as he took over a hundred more shots the Suzuki. That has to change unless he gets the same solid point total. Other wise he can be dangled at the deadline. Slav will rock as he still develops. Your take on the D is good, but you are too rough on Monte. Fowler is the future goalie...in 2 years. Yes, Dach is absolutely the key to the Habs pushing up to the wild card competition.

  • @johnloller1949

I won’t dispute much said, but while they had one of the best 1st lines in the league, they had no secondary scoring since lines 2,3 and 4 were at the bottom of the league in scoring. If 3 lines aren’t scoring guess which direction play is going so that’s why goaltending is hard to evaluate. With Dach back and Laine they will have 2 solid lines and Hutson on the PP. More goals and time fora goalie to breathe

I liked the video, despite not watching lots of Montreal games you still made a fair assessment of the team and where it’s going, it’s just that you said a lot of what the crazy part of the fanbase would call heresy.
Do not compliment Matheson in any way shape or form, same for Primeau, don’t hate on Savard, Roy or Monty .... idk why but it triggers them. Roy is also top6 or at the very least middle6, not bottom.
Fowler is the eventual #1 goaltender as of right now, the defense is developing, so is the offense and they added Laine, i still think MTL is 1 top6 player and 1 top2 defenseman short to be truly a contender even if we sped up everyone’s development and everything went above average which is very very optimistic.

Your first hockey lesson is to learn and understand what goes on when any of the 32 teams announce a full rebuild. To not say what almost every hockey pundit or sportscaster is saying that the Canadiens management have so far basically done a perfect rebuild up to now and the future looks bright for Montreal with the wealth of highend young players and prospects
