The boss bd-2/bd-2w and the EQD special Cranker are my go to overdrives for the jc40 I own. Bluesbreaker pedals also sound great, I use the blammo bluesblaster, and the Browne protein which contains a Bluesbreaker and nobels style overdrive that you can stack.

Thank you for the review. I own three nice you've amps, and an old Lab Series L5. I love the sound of my tube amps but have a soft spot for solid state amps. Don't want anything to do with digital or modelling amps. I really appreciate the JC-120 for its clean sounds but wasn't sure how it would sound with overdrive pedals. I recently bought a Boss SD-1, black anniversary edition. This was exactly the review I was looking for. Excellent

Are you plugging your Boss DM-2w in the JC120's stereo effects loop, while the drive pedal(s) thru the front end of the amp? Cause it sounds stereo to me when u are playing with the DM-2w delay engaged.... Whatever it is, this is a really good video... I am a keyboardist but a guitar amp/pedals/Strat fan. I used to use the JC120 back in the mid 80s, for my Rhodes Piano & Roland Jupiter 8. I still remember how great it sounds with those two keyboards plugged into the JC120! Ok dawgs I have a question and would love feedback. I have a JC120, well aware of it's reputation with distortion, and working with a Boss DA-2 Adaptive Distortion, is there anyway setting wise or other pedal wise to get that beautiful thrash tone of the first three Megadeth or Metallica albums(obviously not the same but you get the point) classic thrash, clear articulation but very hard distortion. A lot of these seem a bit more "rock" distortion as opposed to "metal" distortion and wondering if that's because that's all you can really get out of a JC120 or just a preference thing. My main question is would it be worth it to just end up getting a marshall or Mesa boogie for any harder songs and just switch or can I make just the 120 work? Thanks to anyone willing to read all that and respond!

@@TheSpaceGuitarWhat I have heard so far is all JC amps are a great pedal platform. This is the reason for me to buy a JC-22 (funds as housing 😅 a JC-22 is loud enough).
      Nice demo, Black Sabbath 😎

The point is not choosing the best pedal but listening their behaviour with the JC. You choose what you prefer
