I had watched some video on that. Seems the length and sheath matter. Some ppl in history did carry swords on there back but it was pretty rare compared to just having it on your side. Majority of the time I imagine it would just be a lot slower but I think if you just bend you back you can get it out possibly.
yup, that's right, developers had the same problem with Link from The Legend of Zelda, because it would be physically impossible for him to take the sword off his back, but they wanted to do it anyway because it looks cooler, so every time he pulls out the sword it just goes through the scabbard.

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga this episode adapted all of chapter 56 and the majority of chapter 57 (specifically 25/38 pages). Something to keep in mind, the North Atlantic slave trade of Northern Europe during the 11th century wasn’t quite as dehumanizing as the later Trans-Atlantic chattel slave trade of the Americas. Slaves like Thorfinn and Einar (known as “thralls”, while non-nobility free-men were called “karls”) tended to have slightly more societal rights and upward-mobility opportunities, so the Ketil dude wasn’t bullshitting Thorfinn and Einar about them being able to feasibly purchase their freedom back within 3 years. As for how long Thorfinn has been a slave, while the exact amount of time he’s already been on Ketil’s farm is unspecified in the manga, the manga does specify that Thorfinn and Einar meet during late June of 1015 (and King Sweyn and Askeladd died in February of 1014), so Thorfinn can at *most* have been on Ketil’s farm for a little more than a year. Roshi definitely has a good genre-savvy eye for Olmar’s (Ketil’s son) narrative role in this arc, though the exact in-and-outs of his arc will likely surprise him by the end. And IIRC I believe even if the tenant farmer’s daughter had a bastard child with Olmar, it would still likely grant the tenant farmer family some upward mobility/social-connections and security, as acknowledged bastards still had some social standing (think of how bastards worked in Game of Thrones). Since this episode didn’t adapt all of chapter 57, the roles of the two drunks weren’t defined yet, but it’s not really a spoiler to know what their jobs on the farm are. Those two drunk guys were “Guests”, basically mercenary soldiers hired as security-guards for the farm (so they aren’t part of the farm-hands like the karls who ate part of Einar and Thorfinn’s lunch). I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of untrained or unexperienced soldiers/knights etc died in medieval times due to putting their sword on their back and being unable to get it out in time. It is physically impossible to get any longsword out that way as your arms can't reach high enough. Every warrior wears the scabbard on their waist to pull it out quick and cleanly. Ketil explained that if they do that correctly it will take them 3 years to clear the forest. It's a reasonable time , and it's quite possible if it's all you do all day. There is also the fact that they use river to move the Woods easely.
It would take them probably a bit more time, since the other workers don't do shit while it's their job, and not the slaves, to push the logs. But yeah.

"I think i like this place" said Einar after seeing the so-far-unnamed girl.
I have never seen any fantasy property address how hard it would be to draw a decent length sword out of a regular scabbard on your back--let alone make a gag out of it lol
Didn't Thors wear his sword on his back in season 1 tho?
6:51 No cellphones in sight just people living in the moment
If you put it into perspective, in somewhat of year in a half they could clear the part of the forest assigned to them, cutting and dragging one tree per day, so no, it's not an impossible task, the land lord was serious about the rebuy your freedom thing, and his estimation was somewhat correct, in three years, with a good rythm, they could be free, some of the workers of him were former slaves as well but decided to stay, just as the guy that was presented to them.
The character development in this arc truly is something.
Lol someone needs to check on the hamster in Lupa's head. Make sure it ain't taking breaks and hops back on the hamster wheel 😂 man said "get me ice" like they have refrigerators lol.
Season 1: War
Season 2: Farming simulator
the reason I enjoy your reactions so much is because of the jokes and interactions that you guys have its really fun
does that sometimes make you miss some subtitles here and there? "yeah" but it doesn't really matter that much TO ME
5:04 these are the trees close to the river btw
lupa can crack them jokes any time. i'm here for it
5:05 “Fam That Was One 😮” 😂😂😂😂
"Danish or English, I guess all white people look the same"
Editor goated as usual
African or Caribbean , I guess all black people look the same.
6:57 "Danish or English, I guess all white people look the same." 🤣🤣
Translation Notes
KARL ,Karl
The Viking social class of free men, greater than thralls (slaves) but lower than noble jarls: in short, the common man. The Old English form of the word was "churl," which eventually evolved into its contemporary pejorative meaning: one who is so common as to be low class or boorish.
Thorfinn's eyes are the ones of a broken man with no goals for the future. Can't wait to see his growth
5:39 bruh I knew Lupa was gon have some shit to say about that.
😂😂😂
Everyone memes on Farmland Saga but it’s probably my favorite arc.
he said it would take them about 3 years, that amount of trees is possible to clear but it would take at least 1 of those full years
Thorfinn really on his depressed arc
PARTY IS OVER!!!!!!😂
Omar running off with the horse is the funniest thing in this anime😂
"I guess all white people look the same." 😂😂 The editor just casually slid that in
5:40 oh nah sheera was not jackin that joke😭 lupa better sleep with one eye open for the rest of the week
But yeah.
I think he was saying it would take 3 years for them to buy their freedom back. That forest did not look like it would take 3 years. He's expecting the retainers to help them move the logs.
6:58 I’m white and this shit had me dead bro lmao
Lupa said get ice like they gonna open a freezer and get some ice cubes 💀
They gonna get it from iceland 💀
Hopefully yall keep cracking jokes I'm here for the humor. 😭
12:48 Lupa: Find the hay in the needle stack
Do you mean find the needle in the hay stack bro?😂
I love your jokes honestly
please never change lupa
A lot of good characters in this season. The whole Ketil family is a damn ride, Olmar especially. Yall are gonna enjoy this one
The master's son gives me that jean from aot vibe. Both were like very uptight and annoying characters, but i woudlnt be surprised if he's gonna become one of the most loved characters. I could be way off tho lmao
This is why I love X3ma lmao
6:58 those subtitles really caught me off guard, i was thinking for a good two seconds what went wrong in translation there before i realized he most likely never saw anyone that was not white and you were trolling me. Kudos to you for that one.
To be fair, the retainers are supposed to get the logs into the river - Thorfinn and Einar are just supposed to fell all the trees... which is doable in a few years. The boss doesn't know that the retainers aren't doing their job. I think his offer is genuine.
6:58 nice try, editor. Slick with the subtitles there 😂😂
1:38 yup some of actually had good home training lmao
7:02 AYO WHAT LMAO (true though)
I’m surprised you guys didn’t catch that thorfinn was one of the danish who Einar was describing. Haven’t seen the new episodes yet but maybe they’ll get into that
Not ya'll roasting the r/iamverysmart people at the start. I am dying laughing 😂😂😂
find the hay in the needle stack
Y’all niggas complaining but them being them is what makes their reactions so good😭🤧
Is Lupa the editor? Because he's doubling down hard on his goofy reaction from the last episode.
No lol the editor is the very hardworking X3ma who thankfully has the same kind of humor as these three
Fuck those goofy comments y'all can react how you's want to, it's the fact that Lupa's real reaction to things is to crack jokes that makes these reactions so genuine, they don't fake any reactions, just feels like watching a show with 3 friends
Exactly!
This dudes got them sharecropping
Keep doing you lupa. No need for fake emotions. Everyone reacts to things in different ways. Love you guys anyway
“I guess all white people look the same” 🤣 that edit was not necessary
LMAO They was coming for Lupa's head 😂🤣
the 7:00 edit in the subs had me cackling
I was like, I dont rememember that and I remembered what channel this is.
ngl kinda racist but I love it
Haven’t invented guns yet but I’m sure they have freezers for ice
His son will be a good men in the end
The farmer's son shall hence forth be known as: Dan.
it really says something about the story when the entire episode is just talking and you are not bored. few animes could pull that off
6:58 "i guess all white peolpe look the same" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
YO imma start using 'faxanese' irl when someone speaks fax
