I just ordered a V1 Pro for my A7RV as no Sony flash/triggers available in Australia. Not used a flash for years, so bit of an adventure! But now I read the Godex (old version?) has serious issues with TTL with Sony. Any feedback out there? BTW, I believe the V1Pro overcomes the issues (again with Sony) of a fragile plastic hot shoe and, as you note, the colour tint. Both of these are important to me.
Hi Kenn , you gonna like this flash. Dont forget TTL is not aways very consistent and you need to learn the ins and outs . It takes time and practice so be patient . Off camera flash on manual will be your best bet for consistent exposure. Get a softbox or an umbrella and you will be good to go . If you need ton run and gun with flash on camera you will need to learn to deal with exposure compensation. Either way it will serve you good . After you receive the flash and you have questions let me know . I will do my best to help you out.
Thank you for your very clear and detailed analysis! I own a profoto a1 and godax v860ii, the a1 can always guarantee the quality of photos, accurate white balance, but the sony brand a1 hotshoe bit is too easy to bend, has been repaired twice, now not quite dare to use it for work; the v860ii has a very adequate battery, but the shocking white imbalance, and also at high speed bursts of shooting does not work.Thinking about a flash for event and wedding shooting, might get your advice on whether to go for godax v1pro or sony f60rm2?
The new Godox flash has pretty nice color stability and i use it with Canon and Fuji systems. I never used sony flashes but i heard from some other friends photographers that are really good . Think you will be ok with either one , if you can try them out before you buy one will be better but either way you will have a good flash. With Godox its easy to add bigger strobes to your system if need it but with sony you stuck on speedlights. Cheers and good luck !
This is a well made review. I think I'd stick with the old version as there's about £100 difference in my country. I'm adjusting the temperature and tint in most of my photos so it's not a big deal. Mersii mult
If you have the old version and can handle the minor tint issue you dont need to get the new one . But get the new Nano remote , its really very good! Multa bafta si sanatate !
Hello Tony, Can you test how the Profoto accessories mount to the new V1 Pro? I heard that the diameter was a little bigger than the original V1 and the Profoto gels etc don't fit as well... Thank You!!
@@tonyroscaphotography Thank You! I prefer the Profoto accessories as I have found the magnets are stronger and the gel colors are accurate. I bought 4 of the Godox accessory kits and 2 of the CTOs were correct and 2 had a LOT of red or magenta in them. You could clearly see it with your eyes.
@@ChongLisDriveThru you are right , i got to the same conclusion and i got all the Profoto accessories. And from the testing i did so far it is almost imposibile to tell the V1pro from Profoto Ax. I have both flashes and i am not biased
@@tonyroscaphotography I've had the V1 & A1 series as well for years. I keep the A1 series if I know I am going to really pound the flash with high power as Godox overheats fairly easily. Now with the new V1 Pro it might be a very close race! I still prefer the Profoto user interface. But battery life on the Godox kills the Profoto!!
@@ChongLisDriveThru all my profoto strobes/flashes withdraw power if i leave the batteries inside , but when fully charged i can get a decent amount of flashes. My issue with Profoto is with the quality control. I have 2 Connect Pro trigger going bad on me last year . They start malfunctioning and it took weeks to figure out what was wrong until they went blank . Profoto replace them for free but i could not use the system for almost 10 weeks . I was lucky that i have the Godox System and i buy modifiers i can use with both brands . Did anybody notice the difference ? Nope.
I think the change in overheating might make the new flash worth it for some types of photographers. Perhaps wedding photographers? I don't really need that improvement and really not worried about the tint, so no need to upgrade.
I agree with you, the subflash its a gimmick and the old V1 its still a great flash. I do like the option to charge the new battery directly via usb-C but thats a minor thing . Keep taking great pictures !
Seems an honest review. I have the Neewer Z1 and I see no sensible reasonable to upgrade to the their Z2. As just a hobbyist I the front light in this new Godox is getting mixed reviews I think. My take is that it's a nice plus point that might come in handy. If I were doing this for money the extra flashes with the new battery and the charger might be worth looking at but my non pro needs it's a non issue. In all honesty, my Neewer Z1 (basic standard) is fine as I don't need TCM and their limited ecosystem v Godox is enough................I was considering a few things but maybe it's time to say I have enough. JMO as a non pro this field.
There is a difference between TH-cam pros and real life pros🤣 when you make a living as photographer you want to save money any way you can . And also its a difference between what you need and what you want 😂 if you are confortabile with what you got and dont really need upgrades dont change it. Enjoy what you have and stick with . Thank you for stopping by and my reviews are unbiased . I make my livelihood outside of youtube and what i post i try to be as real is possible . Cheers
Adorama just had a link from Canon Rumors with the V1Pro for $219 seemed like it was too good to pass up. The deal also included a small power bank. Not a battery but hey for $20 more than the V1 and that little extrta thrown in, it seemed like a good deal.
Godox has their own rechargeable batteries . It comes with the flash but you can buy more if you want . The batteries on the new V1 Pro are rated for 500 full power flashes , the previous model are 450 full power . No sony batteries with Godox . Have a great day !

I will get the new one because the older V1 tended to be too warm and I need to adjust the color temperature of every flash photo.
The new one is spot on , really impressive. I just did some more testing and it works great!

The Profoto accessories fit the new V1 Pro. The diameter of the head is the same as the V1.
