This is some solid advice, having a good sequencer is key, with that you can get away with cheaper synths like the volcas and not be constrained by their limited input and small knobs.
yeah some very good points about starting off...i accidentally bought an e2 in 2015 and it was the gateway into dawless for me....best thing i bought for how it started me off...have the mpc one now aswell which to me is like the e2+...all those limitations gone but i can approach it exactly the same way

Is it possible to sequence each track on the Roland, sequence the Moog, and sequence the polybrute all at the same time? With both the Novation Circuit and the Korg electribe?
@@twoHRdrive 🤠 A MIDI setup can have up to 16 channels. One channel can be one MIDI device or more devices if they are set to respond to the same channel. But one device can also have up to 16 channels if it is a multitimbral device (most synths & drum machines). Groove machines like the TR-8 have separate sliders & knobs for each MIDI part for immediate access & control but there aren't enough physical controls for all 16 MIDI channels. You should set the TR-8s to MIDI channel 10, the Moog to channel 1 or any other number from 1 - 16 but not 10, & the PolyBrute to its own MIDI channel as well. Your other synths should be able to respond from the TR-8s as long as the MIDI channels are configured correctly for transmit & receive. MIDI is fully customizable. I suggest channel 10 for the TR-8s as Roland also tends to use Channel 10 for drum channels in their past gear. You can set it to any channel you like but consistency is encouraged. When you have a decade's worth of songs, you'll be glad that all your instrument parts were on the same MIDI channel.
I have been using FL since 2001, but my beginnings are with drum machines and samplers. I have been wanting to get back to DAWless, if for no other reason than to get more organic and involved with the process. Thanks for your upload!

Nice video and certainly food for thought. Looking for a sequencer brain for my setup, I have a few bits of kit but my brain at the moment is an old electribe ES MkII which I love but does not work as a proper midi sequencer being more of a drum machine sampler.
Hey, great video and I agree with the direction one should take if they want to go dawless. I have some little synths, 3 pocket operators, a volca fm and a Bastl Kastle and they are all a joy to play with. Limiting and sometimes uncomfortable to use, but I've managed to be pretty creative with them. The only thing that concerns me about the electribe series is the sequencer locking to quantisation. Unfortunately, the pocket operators and Volca have the same issue with their sequencers but I would rather something that can record unquantised or can limit the amount of quantisation. It's really preference, because alot of the music I create is hip hop based, I find it essential to add a little bit of sloppiness and swing to my sequences. What would annoy me sometimes is recording something that sounds nice unquantised for that sequence to be ruined and sound less human-like. Having a piece of hardware gear that could fix that would be great! :)
It's exactly how I'm doing it! It just clicked the other day, when i was wondering how to play live at the end of the Month. Bloody great machine. Contected to a TD303/Roland tr6s/korg monologue/Roland J-6 chord synth. blimey, its ridiculously good. 🎉
I arrived at a very similar setup and also was a guitar player. I have ES2 sampler, 2 Volcas, 2 Berhinger mono synth and I love it. I work on a computer all day so I wanted to avoid it if I could. I think one value you left out of the Electribe is the ability to transfer your data to Ableton Live (IF you wanna do DAW or DAWless).
Your guidance is not only honest and direct for those of us who are musicians (rather than being solely obsessed with using a PC, which I don't use mine for making music) but it also encourages people to compose "on the fly"! The Electribes (and the Volcas) can use batteries so you can be creative with your musical ideas anywhere you go. I actually bought the Electribe 2 red sampler version of the blue synth model you show here and it is a joy to use. Thanks for your advice and please keep up the good work you do on here. Cheers!
I am a complete beginner and I happened to find the E2S for 200. Now due to gas i also bought myself a midi keyboard and a monologue, even tho the prices were super good. I am very happy I watched this video today, I will start to really get to know this instrument now and hopefully be able to make some juicy stuff on it ( and the monologue ) Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪
Good video. I agree that having a brain first (hehe) makes a huge lot of sense, and having one that can also act as a standalone groovebox gets you started right away. I kind of went the other way around, collected lots of little things without a central sequencer first. Tried out the OP-Z and the SQ-64 for the central brain - neither really worked. The OP-Z isn't easy to read when going to other gear and back, it really only works well standalone. The SQ-64 has lots of shortcomings when it comes to melody sequencing (it's much better suited for drums), and has only four tracks. Now I have the Hapax as my main sequencer and it's just amazing, brings together everything so nicely. It's not as budget friendly though. I love the jam at the end as well 🤩 Oh, and I started watching without sound, and the subtitles were all "door" and "doorless" 😂
Thank you for reminding me where I originally wanted to go with dawless. My daw-less journey started with a bass guitar, Tascam Digital Portastudio, and E-mu Proteus rompler. I needed a user-friendly sequencer next. I tried a blue Electribe and fell in love with grooveboxes. I thought a vintage EMX1 would be more affordable, or I was gonna settle for an MC-505. I ended up with a used Boss DR-5 machine… not nearly as intuitive or versatile. The next few years are a blur, but the G.A.S. really went nuts during the pandemic. Acquiring various instruments for a non-existent home studio, while my dad keeps asking me to move out. 😣 Now I’m hooked on effects pedals for my bass, y’know for all those live gigs we’re (not) having… At this point, I’ve accumulated like $2000 worth of random budget gear with nowhere to set them up. I don’t have a cohesive workflow or workspace, alternating between Garageband for iPad & Reaper on Windows with a jumble of cables on the floor. I am neither happy nor productive. A big part of my confusion is a lack of clear purpose. Dancer? Singer? Composer? Live Musician? For profit? For pleasure? Maybe it’s time to quit being a cheapskate and start fresh with a minimal dawless setup. Going back through the usual TH-cam recommendations, but probably still leaning toward my original groovebox desires… or maybe a Model Samples. 😑 Of course, no amount of gear can replace consistent practice.
I got an MPC 500 for a studio brain, but it's proving a little complicated. Waiting for cork inserts for the pads. Got 2 drum machines(Drumbrute Impact, Uno Drum on the way) and 3 synths(Volca Bass, TD-3 and SH-01a). Also a small 8-channel mixer w/FX. Hope I can do something with those.
E2 is an incredibly underrated instrument. You just have to stick with it long enough how to fully figure it out. It takes a long time to learn how to use but once you get it the workflow can be quiet fast. Rare sound quality for the price tag
Hi I agree. I think the problem with the electribe 2 is that one needs to understand production and sound design. If one knows how to make certain sounds then the E2 rocks as it has all the production tools built in.
Great video. I love my Electribe 2, it gets hate which isn’t warranted. Abit of menu diving (shift functions sort most of this), and a little voice stealing, but this can be fixed with a little creativity.

I have the blue and red OG Electribes and the newer E2... I have bought so much gear and now I can't get one single set-up i am happy with.... You can now add custom firmware to the E2 and get sampling on the Synth.
I used to use just a Yamaha DJx then I started using it with a multi track recorder so I get limitations are good for creating...I might get one of these..what is it a korg electribe ?

Can I play a drum beat off the electribe and sample my keys, guitar etc into the electribe with the currunt best still playing? I wanna do some live jams and loops but not sure if I have to stop the recording to record something into it
Hi. Im not sure if the Electribe sampler is quite up to that. Maybe look at the Akai one or Mpc series. The problem is getting a sequencer and sampler in the same unit. Also the Circuit Rhythm may be what you are after as it does all of the above for around £350
The difference between being a music producer and a musician. I like that. I feel the exact same way about my model cycles. I know that nothing that I produce is going to go on an LP. Regardless, it's the unique rhythm and melody that you come up with. You aren't buying somebody's tired canned loops and mangling and running through filters until it's so wet mamma throws it in the tub. I was watching demos of the octatrack and building songs on it. It was just another daw in hardware form. No thanks. I'd rather get back to what the OG did. Minimum hardware pushed to its limits and combined in interesting ways. Original house music was made with little more than toys.
Great video, i order my electribe2 yesterday And i think i have made a good choice, after week and week, watching video for a dawless machine, Not too expensive, my choice was elektron model cycle or electribe2 synth, really hate the electribe navigation, but after seeing good tutorial this was not break deal anymore The elektron has only 6 assignable instruments, this is not enough....but great user interface I hate creating sound design on computer (vst) probably because i use my keyboard and mouse... The export function to ableton projet is a cool thing that electribe2 has, i can create my song on the electribe2 and export it and finish the final arrangement on ableton live Hope i will enjoy my electribe2 Great video

In the 90s everything was "dawless" unless you were like the level of Mick Fleetwood with a 1 million dollar protools setup in say 1996. Back then samplers were really important, but expensive. My setup in 1997 was an ensoniq asrx with zip drive on scsi, a roland tr505 for midi clock and sequencing and a novation bass station. Then I had a small 4 channel tape recorder. All my stuff then was recorded to analog tape only having a DAT machine was too expensive and midi disc was too expensive. Sometimes I recorded straight to "boom box" from my mixer.
@@royalsatin366 Yeah these days I like the tiny gear, korg volcas and the teenage engineering pocket operators but my workflow remains sample centered around my Roland sp404a.
I still do things the hard way I like to record into a br80 and use that to multitrack and even do mastering without touching my laptop. I do like bitwig for some things like it does microtonal scales and can microtune midi hardware when I want to go outside standing tuning.

@@royalsatin366 Yeah I used my laptop for all that stuff I figured out that with American Musical Supply I could get all these little things on small payments when I was working. Before 2020 I was using the computer for all my production.
Very tru .. I found that my. Ok volca kick was a pain because it was boring me … but I linked it to my tr o3 or tbo3 can’t remember … but realised it sounds … wen u tweak n noodle .. it sounds ….or the machine they used on it .,a lot like aphrodisiac your love ….. and that alone killed a few hours ( still didn’t quite get the harmony perfect ) but I WILL.. I just ran out of battery power .. hand held machines are great ../far better than computers .. I’m sticking at six tho ..
@@royalsatin366 how do you get around this issue? do you have a small mixer you use? any recommendations? I guess you could run all your synths into a small mixer, then run that into the audio in of the electribe and you could do some mastering FX, like cut the bass, maybe put on some compression or reverb? What's your approach?

Good question. I never really had any problems. It just seemed to work. although some synths would play game. But the Roland synths were really midi friendly and received all manner of midi info from the electribe
So I’m trying to purchase a Jupiter xm it has speakers and battery powered I want to hear myself playing through its speakers, downside it doesn’t have a complete sequencer/ looper I think you have to punch in your key in edit mode or something, so I wanted to see if I could get a midi sequencer or looper without using a daw and put the midi cable to the Jupiter xm and I can control the Jupiter xm with my midi keyboard/ make my chords off the top instead of punching it in on the screen all while hearing it through the Jupiter xm speakers. Not tryna use a computer. I saw a video about the arturia key step 37 key joint it has its own sequencer or looper. Can someone help me out on what to get to be able press the keys in the Jupiter xm keyboard and it’ll make a loop for me instead of me going to the menu and punching it in.
I have a jdxi and it lets me press keys and loop my idea the Jupiter xm doesn’t let you do that wish it did. Feel like it’ll take a while for you to put down an idea
Meanwhile, those hardware instruments have also a computer inside and are not always more user-friendly than a DAW. There is some programming required to make those function. For sure; Cubase can be a pain in the ass but what could be more user-friendy than Garage Band ? I don't use VST but hardware instruments, only use Cubase for recording.
Hi. In truth I now use the Akai MPC live asy main tool now. It is dawless, however it also ain't. It's a computer inside a hardware box. So yes, I have moved over to a middle ground which gives me the best of all worlds. However I write and perform and record songs on the MPC live and then use a computer to master and upload tracks That's it 😀
Yes I agree lol. Ableton is very expensive. The point of my video was not to knock software but to encourage those who want to go Dawless that it can be done on a budget. Even though I write and compose dawless, I still use software to record, mix it down, overdub additional parts etc. For me it's about using the hardware as an instrument and the software as a tool to complement. But back in the day when I had no money I used software only to write music on. So you need both, not just one or the other 🙂
Hi. Yes good question. I used to record my stuff onto a multutrack recorder. Nowadays I use my mac to do a basic stereo mix. I may then overdub some vocals. Since doing this video a lot has changed. My main machine which controls my synths is the akai mpc live. This machine is the heart that controls every thing. I record my own samples to this machine. Afterwards I just mix it down in garage band. Have been doing that for a few years now. U have to be practical here....dawless is great and fun but you still need tech to be used in recording. Its not Ness. But its convenient 😒
After trying a couple of those sequencers, I finally choose the MPC One. The most packed dawless device for the price. In my setup: a RC-505 looper, Korg Minilogue and the MPC One. Love it :)
Trevor Malcolm that’s very interesting. And don’t you feel it limited in simultaneous tracks? I should dig in the MC-707. I always thought it was more like drum machine oriented in its workflow.
Trevor Malcolm I forgot to mention that for some projects, I needed a device able to play different track lengths simultaneously and can support overall sequence’s odd time signatures. I was very appealed by the Kilpatrick’s Carbon sequencer. A real piece of art!!! But for some reasons (I’m limited with synths and sound modules in this project) I decided to go with the MPC One because it’s a standalone device. On the surface 8 tracks seem limited, but on a drum track you can choose a standard kit (say a 808) then swop out the snare for one of your sampled drum hits, fx loop on another (or I sample a volca bass line) I’ve built most of a track on 2 drum tracks, drums, bass, vocal stabs, etc... which leaves 6 more tracks for synth lines I never use more than a couple more! With the ability to edit levels, eq, sustain all that stuff for each pad! And yes you can had different timings on each PAD! Not tracks. OK, I’ll be the first to admit sampling isn’t as expansive as an MPC (I still miss my MPC 1000) but for a DAWless workflow I find it a killer! All my favourite drum machines (808,909,707,etc...) and all my favourite synths (sh-101, JUNOs, 303...) and before you ask, NO I don’t work for Roland!
lots of research over the past few days had me realize that in 2022 the MPC ONE is hard to beat on a bang for buck basis, and I would love one, except for ONE (...) thing: One of my goals was to get away from the screen. The MPC still has you tied to a (small ass) screen. Might as well fire up a DAW on my laptop :/
Most of todays hardware sequencers (and i do.mean sequencers, not grooveboxes) have tons of knobs and possibilites, but NO EFFIN" SONG MODE. Sometimes a fixed Arrangement is needed....yes, i'm fed up with DAWs killing my creativity....but not because of the concept of lining up bars, but wobbly Midi-clocks.
yes song mode is a problem. I know use the MPC live in my rig now and it has a great song\sequencer mode. the electric dumped this feature...dont know why
Mannn idk in my opinion I feel like if you just wanna get into music a daw is like the opposite of the direction you wanna go I think you should always start with an instrument and find something that works for you instead of spending tons of money on a laptop and daws and having to learn the plugins and all that bs it’s better to just have it all in front of you
Lol. GAS is not good. However after I get the behringer 303 clone I will be cutting back on some gear. Get rid of Hal of my Volcas and keep the modular, and FM. It’s all getting a bit out of hand 😂
After watching this I've decided to devote the rest of my life to cataloging and illustrating all the different species of pistachio nuts. But before I do let us bow our heads and sing our hymns to the gong people until that heavenly lullaby sends them into an endless choking sleep.
Using a DAW was never an option for me. Working all day with a notebook and didn't want to deal with DAWs in my freetime. 😊 It takes some time to find the gear that matches your workflow or even during finding your workflow. I switched to really simple and almost feature lacking gear, because they are potentially easier to learn and pick up and just play, after weeks without the need to go through the manual or video tutorials again. It's really fun. A simple intuitive sequencer is awesome and even those who didn't create beats, find a fast way of making music.
My setup is the electribe, a volca sample and a microkorg. Midi jams with these three are the most fun I've had making music

You can also get the Novation Circuit, less channels for sequencing but double pattern length and more immediacy in its workflow.

Hi I agree. I think the problem with the electribe 2 is that one needs to understand production and sound design. If one knows how to make certain sounds then the E2 rocks as it has all the production tools built in.

Great video. I love my Electribe 2, it gets hate which isn’t warranted. Abit of menu diving (shift functions sort most of this), and a little voice stealing, but this can be fixed with a little creativity.
Hi thanks. Yes totally agree. The Electribe 2 is very powerful. Sure it has a few weaknesses but nothing that can’t be worked around. Even the menu diving makes a lot of sense after a bit of use.

Curious how you don't need a mixer? Surely all your audio outs need to go somewhere if you're using the electribe as a sequencer?
I have the blue and red OG Electribes and the newer E2... I have bought so much gear and now I can't get one single set-up i am happy with....
You can now add custom firmware to the E2 and get sampling on the Synth.

I used to use just a Yamaha DJx then I started using it with a multi track recorder so I get limitations are good for creating...I might get one of these..what is it a korg electribe ?

Can I play a drum beat off the electribe and sample my keys, guitar etc into the electribe with the currunt best still playing? I wanna do some live jams and loops but not sure if I have to stop the recording to record something into it
Hi. Im not sure if the Electribe sampler is quite up to that. Maybe look at the Akai one or Mpc series. The problem is getting a sequencer and sampler in the same unit. Also the Circuit Rhythm may be what you are after as it does all of the above for around £350
Akai MPC-500 is another budget gem in same price range!

The difference between being a music producer and a musician. I like that. I feel the exact same way about my model cycles. I know that nothing that I produce is going to go on an LP. Regardless, it's the unique rhythm and melody that you come up with. You aren't buying somebody's tired canned loops and mangling and running through filters until it's so wet mamma throws it in the tub. I was watching demos of the octatrack and building songs on it. It was just another daw in hardware form. No thanks. I'd rather get back to what the OG did. Minimum hardware pushed to its limits and combined in interesting ways. Original house music was made with little more than toys.

Not too expensive, my choice was elektron model cycle or electribe2 synth, really hate the electribe navigation, but after seeing good tutorial this was not break deal anymore
The elektron has only 6 assignable instruments, this is not enough....but great user interface
I hate creating sound design on computer (vst) probably because i use my keyboard and mouse...
The export function to ableton projet is a cool thing that electribe2 has, i can create my song on the electribe2 and export it and finish the final arrangement on ableton live

In the 90s everything was "dawless" unless you were like the level of Mick Fleetwood with a 1 million dollar protools setup in say 1996. Back then samplers were really important, but expensive. My setup in 1997 was an ensoniq asrx with zip drive on scsi, a roland tr505 for midi clock and sequencing and a novation bass station. Then I had a small 4 channel tape recorder. All my stuff then was recorded to analog tape only having a DAT machine was too expensive and midi disc was too expensive. Sometimes I recorded straight to "boom box" from my mixer.

@@royalsatin366 Yeah these days I like the tiny gear, korg volcas and the teenage engineering pocket operators but my workflow remains sample centered around my Roland sp404a.
I still do things the hard way I like to record into a br80 and use that to multitrack and even do mastering without touching my laptop. I do like bitwig for some things like it does microtonal scales and can microtune midi hardware when I want to go outside standing tuning.

@@royalsatin366 Yeah I used my laptop for all that stuff I figured out that with American Musical Supply I could get all these little things on small payments when I was working. Before 2020 I was using the computer for all my production.
Very tru .. I found that my. Ok volca kick was a pain because it was boring me … but I linked it to my tr o3 or tbo3 can’t remember … but realised it sounds … wen u tweak n noodle .. it sounds ….or the machine they used on it .,a lot like aphrodisiac your love ….. and that alone killed a few hours ( still didn’t quite get the harmony perfect ) but I WILL.. I just ran out of battery power .. hand held machines are great ../far better than computers .. I’m sticking at six tho ..

My question is, can you route your synths audio through it to add FX to external gear? Or do you still need outboard fx and a mixing desk?
Yes good question. You can route a single instrument into the tribe and apply fx. But at some stage you are still gonna need a sound desk

I guess you could run all your synths into a small mixer, then run that into the audio in of the electribe and you could do some mastering FX, like cut the bass, maybe put on some compression or reverb? Hey, quick question, how did you set the Electribe to control the filters on external synths? I could send midi notes out but can't seem to control other synths past that.
Good question. I never really had any problems. It just seemed to work. although some synths would play game. But the Roland synths were really midi friendly and received all manner of midi info from the electribe

Hi yes. The pyramid is a good sequencer and a very deep one as well. I have never heard anyone speak ill of the machine.

So I’m trying to purchase a Jupiter xm it has speakers and battery powered I want to hear myself playing through its speakers, downside it doesn’t have a complete sequencer/ looper I think you have to punch in your key in edit mode or something, so I wanted to see if I could get a midi sequencer or looper without using a daw and put the midi cable to the Jupiter xm and I can control the Jupiter xm with my midi keyboard/ make my chords off the top instead of punching it in on the screen all while hearing it through the Jupiter xm speakers. Not tryna use a computer.
I saw a video about the arturia key step 37 key joint it has its own sequencer or looper. Can someone help me out on what to get to be able press the keys in the Jupiter xm keyboard and it’ll make a loop for me instead of me going to the menu and punching it in.
I have a jdxi and it lets me press keys and loop my idea the Jupiter xm doesn’t let you do that wish it did. Feel like it’ll take a while for you to put down an idea

Meanwhile, those hardware instruments have also a computer inside and are not always more user-friendly than a DAW.
There is some programming required to make those function.
For sure; Cubase can be a pain in the ass but what could be more user-friendy than Garage Band ?
I don't use VST but hardware instruments, only use Cubase for recording.
Bet you a mircokorg you'll be using a DAW in some way in the next two years. A balanced Hybrid setups are what you want 😉
Hi. In truth I now use the Akai MPC live asy main tool now. It is dawless, however it also ain't. It's a computer inside a hardware box. So yes, I have moved over to a middle ground which gives me the best of all worlds. However I write and perform and record songs on the MPC live and then use a computer to master and upload tracks

Yes I agree lol. Ableton is very expensive. The point of my video was not to knock software but to encourage those who want to go Dawless that it can be done on a budget. Even though I write and compose dawless, I still use software to record, mix it down, overdub additional parts etc.
For me it's about using the hardware as an instrument and the software as a tool to complement.
But back in the day when I had no money I used software only to write music on. So you need both, not just one or the other 🙂

Hi. Yes good question. I used to record my stuff onto a multutrack recorder. Nowadays I use my mac to do a basic stereo mix. I may then overdub some vocals. Since doing this video a lot has changed. My main machine which controls my synths is the akai mpc live. This machine is the heart that controls every thing. I record my own samples to this machine. Afterwards I just mix it down in garage band. Have been doing that for a few years now. U have to be practical here....dawless is great and fun but you still need tech to be used in recording. Its not Ness. But its convenient 😒

Its showing different options of going Dawless. But the arturia is expensive and only gives you 3 tracks whereas the electribe gives you 16
i just brought a computer, TH-cam is awesome.
After trying a couple of those sequencers, I finally choose the MPC One. The most packed dawless device for the price. In my setup: a RC-505 looper, Korg Minilogue and the MPC One. Love it :)

Trevor Malcolm that’s very interesting. And don’t you feel it limited in simultaneous tracks? I should dig in the MC-707. I always thought it was more like drum machine oriented in its workflow.
Trevor Malcolm I forgot to mention that for some projects, I needed a device able to play different track lengths simultaneously and can support overall sequence’s odd time signatures.
I was very appealed by the Kilpatrick’s Carbon sequencer. A real piece of art!!! But for some reasons (I’m limited with synths and sound modules in this project) I decided to go with the MPC One because it’s a standalone device.

On the surface 8 tracks seem limited, but on a drum track you can choose a standard kit (say a 808) then swop out the snare for one of your sampled drum hits, fx loop on another (or I sample a volca bass line) I’ve built most of a track on 2 drum tracks, drums, bass, vocal stabs, etc... which leaves 6 more tracks for synth lines I never use more than a couple more! With the ability to edit levels, eq, sustain all that stuff for each pad! And yes you can had different timings on each PAD! Not tracks. OK, I’ll be the first to admit sampling isn’t as expansive as an MPC (I still miss my MPC 1000) but for a DAWless workflow I find it a killer! All my favourite drum machines (808,909,707,etc...) and all my favourite synths (sh-101, JUNOs, 303...) and before you ask, NO I don’t work for Roland!
lots of research over the past few days had me realize that in 2022 the MPC ONE is hard to beat on a bang for buck basis, and I would love one, except for ONE (...) thing: One of my goals was to get away from the screen. The MPC still has you tied to a (small ass) screen. Might as well fire up a DAW on my laptop :/

Most of todays hardware sequencers (and i do.mean sequencers, not grooveboxes) have tons of knobs and possibilites, but NO EFFIN" SONG MODE. Sometimes a fixed Arrangement is needed....yes, i'm fed up with DAWs killing my creativity....but not because of the concept of lining up bars, but wobbly Midi-clocks.
yes song mode is a problem. I know use the MPC live in my rig now and it has a great song\sequencer mode. the electric dumped this feature...dont know why
Mannn idk in my opinion I feel like if you just wanna get into music a daw is like the opposite of the direction you wanna go I think you should always start with an instrument and find something that works for you instead of spending tons of money on a laptop and daws and having to learn the plugins and all that bs it’s better to just have it all in front of you

Using a DAW was never an option for me. Working all day with a notebook and didn't want to deal with DAWs in my freetime. 😊
It takes some time to find the gear that matches your workflow or even during finding your workflow.
I switched to really simple and almost feature lacking gear, because they are potentially easier to learn and pick up and just play, after weeks without the need to go through the manual or video tutorials again.
It's really fun. A simple intuitive sequencer is awesome and even those who didn't create beats, find a fast way of making music.
