Bought one based on your review among a few others. Thanks for doing such a thorough job on this one, as it’s slim pickings otherwise in terms of reviews out there! And you certainly weren’t lying. I’ve been running it in for some six hours now and got hints of where this was going from the first second. Beautiful amp and digging deep enough that I won’t be needing a subwoofer in my space. Hartelijk dank!
Wow! What a positive review of this amplifier. Surprising and delightful. This and the 50n (pending your review) may make a marvelous upgrade to my current system. A little over my allotted budget but the significant improvements may be worth the hit to my bank account.
Hans, this is a great review! Thank you. We have entered a new generation of amplifiers in the middle price range, and they are truly rivaling the hi end. Maybe a new frontier of hi end will arrive too.
Bought one! It looks, feels and sounds very nice! I really appreciated you showing the interior, especially the effort on the phono stage. I didn't want the 40n or 30n because streaming apps will become obsolete. It would be nice to own this beast of an amplifier for 15 or 20 years or longer, and it would have been perfectly relevant 50 years ago. But in 10 years would HEOS still work, and could you get a compatible phone to control it?
Based on Marantz (Canada), viewer's might want to know this detail. Q: How does the sound of the MODEL 50 compares to the sound of the MODEL 40n given the same source? A: (Marantz Response) We haven't designed the two integrated amplifiers to have different sonic characteristics from each other necessarily. The only difference you might hear between the two (depending on the speakers being used) is the Model 40n's ability to drive a wider range of speaker load, as it has a more advanced power amplifier stage. What this means is, if your speakers have an easy load, you are unlikely to hear a difference between the Model 40n and the Model 50. If you have speakers with a more challenging load, the Model 40n is better equipped to handle such speaker demands, providing a fuller, more open sonic delivery - especially with livelier source content. So for those who don't need a CD player and consider saving a considerable amount of money.
I seriously doubt this. If you compare the inside of both amps, you will see they are -- especially where the power supply is concerned - about identical. It also differs from what the European technical people have told me and what I have heard. For me the amps are equal while the streaming function of the CD50n is clearly better than that of the Model 40n.
The 50 & 50n is weirdly placed in terms of naming and performance. Going by the name (lower = Better) the combination of the Model 40n + CD60 (combined MSRP of €3500) should perform better than the Model 50 + CD50n (MSRP €3600). But going by sound quality, I prefer the Model 50 set. Without a need for a CD player and going by ease of use; the Model 40n is a better buy.
I have the Marantz PM8006 and the internals seem kind of similar, I wonder how much of a difference in sound quality between them? Thanks for sharing your opinion and years of expertise with us Sir.
I upgraded from 8006 to the Model 40n (same amp section as Model 50 I believe). Model 40n seems to have about 30% more (45amp vs 65 amps with larger transformer ) power, a bit more neutral and natural, and bigger soundstage. 8006 had a bit of hard time with Buchardt s400ii and KEFs at high volumes, not so with Model 40n. This is a great amp.
@@yekker2245 yeah and great for home theater is what I’m thinking as well, they say in “pure direct” mode it plays a little more treble and that’s exactly what my speakers need, looks like they are still available on Amazon 👍
...the Model 50 is a slight update (but upgrade?) of the truly fantastic PM8006, which was available for a bit less. If you can get it still, why not? Both are pure analog units And have excellent phono stages.
My music listening is an Eversolo DMP-A6 into a Denafrips Aeres II into a Yamaha RX-750 AVR in Pure Direct mode for stereo listening with Q Acoustics Concept 50 speakers. What would be your recommendation for the next upgrade on this system? Thanks for any help.
Just my opinion and experience. Changing from a AV amp to a dedicated stereo amp was a huge leap forward in performance. Dynamics, engaging sound with a believable sound stage, low noise floor too! which improved transparency. Try a home loan from a good Dealer ship. Perhaps your av amp is very good, I've not heard any of the new breed.
@@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel I guess I should’ve stated this is a home theater 5.1 / music system. Music 65% of the day and the balance of evening tv. I was thinking of a stereo into the avr but unsure of the results.
Dear Hans, I leave this comment knowing that I'm writing off the topic of this video, but as it's the latest video uploaded, I thought the chances were higher for your reply. I'm an audio engineer and a studio guy, I use a pci audio interface and a pc for daily music production. Thank you for your wonderful channel, and thanks for sharing your priceless experience and knowledge.
'High power' is a nondescript term. Yes, it is an amp that can deliver more current than others in its class. If that is enough for your loudspeakers, I can't say. I have no hands on experience with them.
Great review, as usual. Now I am connecting my Eversolo DMP-A6 directly to my power amp (NAD C275bee). Do you think it would be an improvement to connect the DMP A6 to a Marantz Model 50 (which I do not own)? Thanks

Fantastic, but to pair with an Eversolo DMP-A6 ME, I believe a power amp is a wiser choice since I don’t pay for a preamp twice. Maybe the preamp section in this is superior to that in DMP-A6 ME at least?
Hello Hans, great video as usual...!!! There's one thing to add to your final comments, that is that the ARCAM SA30 is now heavily discounted in price ($1,980 USD). Which makes it very attractive. Any thoughts on that matter?
Hi Hans thank you again for another great review. When you mention that the speaker pairing should be more budget conscious, than the ones on your setup 2, what are your top 3 suggestions regarding pairing with this amp?
That's a prejudice. Actually, streamers have an easier job getting the bits unharmed and on time to the DAC. So I fully disagree with you. I haven't used a CD-player for years now.
Hi Hans great review. I've just returned the PM12SE due to it not sounding as good as my PM50 from 1991! Is this one likely to be better than my PM50? I believe it may have been due to the PM12SE being a D Class.....also will this Model 50 run my Monitor Audio Silver 500's 7th Gen?

Nice as usual! If not the depth dimension I would consider this apparatus, but I’m limited by 32 cm.
Fair enough!
