@@redromans1563 when you try to make the decline of orangutans a political thing... Almost all of Indonesian founding fathers were socialist.
The basic principles of Indonesian economy is more focused on the spirit of mutual cooperation and profit sharing. Investment and foreign capital can enter Indonesia but must contribute to the surrounding community.

Here are some facts that Animalogic didn't cover:
    1. Orangutans share 97% if our DNA.
    2. They spend up to a third of their life as a child.
    3. They cannot swim that well.
    4. They are the only great ape to live in asia.
    5. They can mimic human behaviour (a skill which makes them learn better).
    6. They have very strong lips which prevents them from eating anything bad.
    7. They can be taught various tasks, like cleaning.
    8. They make the biggest nest in the world.
    9. There are programs like The Orangutan Project that are helping these magnificent creatures and preventing them from going extinct.
Just thought I'd share my knowledge.

In my stem upward bound program we were told that there was a project we had to do based off of a food humans consumed. I chose palm kernel oil and learned about the massive deforestation practices, and about orangutans. I created my whole project based off of it. And I only have this to say, if you do your home work you will learn it is a very dark truth no one talks about. It's very heartbreaking when you learn the aggressive and devastating practices of deforestation that has many negative effects on these adorable and innocent animals.

"They only stay together 2 years"
Whoa whoa whoa you guys gotta correct that info! The research team must have used a reference from back in the 1970s or 80s to get that number. We've known for a long time now that orangutan children stay with their mothers until at least age 7 or 8, and females usually even stay a few years after that so they can witness their mother begin to rear a younger sibling, and gain child rearing knowledge so they aren't clueless for their firstborn. That's the whole reason they only have a child every 8 years, due to the long childhood and dependence on the mother.

  • @EmptyQuiver
    @EmptyQuiver ปีที่แล้ว +2

At around 2:50 you say that the children only stay with their moms for two years, which is very inaccurate. They nurse for two years but stay glued to their mother’s side until they are at least seven or eight years old. I believe that as far as primates go, they are the second longest at active parenting, with humans being the longest.

Moms and babies stay together 7 years! Really, that’s orangutan 101.
They are the greatest moms and it takes that long to teach their offspring how to survive in the jungle.

Orangutan children usually stay with their mothers for 6 to 8 years not just 2 years and some children have even been seen to visit their mother when they are older after they leave. Some being the age of 15.

I've often wondered if introduction into Australia (because THAT'S never gone horribly wrong lmao) might be a solution for endangered south-east Asian species like orangutans and rhinoceroses. Geographically, Indonesia and Borneo are very close to Australia, and the far north of Queensland even shares similar climates, and similar species (eg. tree kangaroos and cockatoos). Designated Aussie orang preserves might help them breed in an environment similar to their native one, without fear of poaching or palm oil plantations taking their habitats.

A police officer came upon a terrible wreck where the driver and passengers had been killed. As he looked upon the wreckage a little monkey came out of the brush and hopped around the crashed car. The officer looked down at the monkey and said "I wish you could talk." The monkey looked up at the officer and shook his head up and down. "You can understand what Im saying?" asked the officer. Again, the monkey shook his head up and down. "Well, did you see this?" "Yes," motioned the monkey. "What happened?" The monkey pretended to have a can in his hand and turned it up by his mouth. "They were drinking?" asked the officer. "Yes." "What else?" The monkey pinched his fingers together and held them to his mouth. "They were smoking marijuana?" "Yes." "Now wait, youre saying your owners were drinking, and smoking marijuana before they wrecked." "Yes." "What were you doing during all this?" "Driving" motioned the monkey.

So the kissing noise may be cute, but it's actually a sign the orangutan is not happy about something. Also the young stay with their mom for up to 8 years, not 2. Maybe the time is lessened in captivity, but wild oranguntans need to learn a lot more to survive.

I think it might be a misstatement but you said, "Only the moms and their babies form social bonds but will only stay together for about 2 years". This is incorrect. Young orangutans will stay with the mother until they are about 6 or 7 years old. A 2 year old orangutan is completely incapable of taking care of itself. They are not even weaned until around age 4.

“This roads allow for hunters” poachers not hunters. Hunting is to control the amount of animals there can be in the animal kingdom so it won’t be starvation or overpopulation. Poaching is when you kill animals for e.g. the horns of a rhino.
