  • Penny discusses one of her favorite topics in labor which she refers to as "the 3 R's: Relaxation, Rhythm and Ritual." You can now download Penny's classic childbirth education film of the same name at www.pennysimki.... to see lovely examples of the 3 R's in a series of live births.

Another great mantra is “the contractions are not stronger than me, they are me”.

What I use to say to myself rhythmically (and instictively) was, “this is not pain..it’s a strong sensation..” It Helped me a lot!

Omg! She just broke down everything I did without knowing. My body just took over and I did the “3 Rs”

my epidural wore off 5 hours before delivery and I had been on pitocin, the contractions were so painful I found myself just repeating "please God", literally over and over....no clue why or what made that be the phrase but it helped me push out a 10lb 1 oz baby girl!!

After having 9 kids I can tell you she's right, that is what I do instinctively, focusing on relaxing, breeding deep and trying to maintain positive thoughts, and praying. That's helped me a lot to cope with the contractions but I still don't know how to cope with the intensive pain at the labor itself.

Wow, congratulations! How did you manage to maintain pelvic floor health with so many pregnancies? What would you advise?

Nice. With my first baby, I felt completely out of control. It felt chaotic like I couldn’t handle it at all. So many people were in the room as well. It was not a calm environment. 11 years later, I’m currently
7 months pregnant with baby #2, and I’m hoping this time it will be more calm and I can feel more in control and centered. Thanks for videos like this.
