As I surf TH-cam for songs that were huge back in my youth, I am blown away by how many of them were by Canadian artists! I had no clue back then. I just assumed most of it came from the US. Proud to be a Canuck!
I'm Canadian, and have long had the same perception too. Thanks to Cancon rules that forced radio stations to play a certain percentage of Canadian content, the 70s, 80s and 90s were prime time for many emerging artists and groups in Canada. Many of these acts turned out to be world-class, stellar acts with huge talent.
When I hear this song, I can imagine being in Miami, Manitoba on a hot August day in 1980 watching the CN GMD-1's and 40' boxcars work the elevators, oh what memories!
Been looking for this song for a wee while now! Takes me back to the days when there was MUSIC on CJOB Winnipeg!!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!
i used to see them all the time........but i can't say i was thrilled when they switched to this kind of thing..........there was some good stuff played when axworthy owned the albert, and of all places the manor on main.....i was in the manor when some drunks from the savoy knocked over the pa,and like every other up and coming venue here, you knew it could not last
@Frankonthetube Find Graham Shaw's personal website, he has an MP3 off an LP on there with his other good song I Cant Say No To You. shawbiz.com/soundbytes2.html
A huge part of that is the Can Con regs. You heard them on the radio and they became "stars" in Canada because by law Canadian stations have to play 20% Canadian content. Ask about a lot of these artists in the US or elsewhere and you will most likely draw a lot of blank stares.
@buckandotis @buckandotis haha TheSavoy and the Manor up and coming places, now that's funny. I always thought the next best thing was the Zoo lounge with the orange chairs till they made most of it stand up. Loved to see Laurie Mckenzie and Bandits there. Lets all burn the Marble Club !!!!! I am glad that one did not last ! Graham Shaw with the Serenaders is playing Mcphillips Station on July 22nd,tickets go on sale on May20th tomorrow FYI :) Isn't this weather amazing !! Have a good day

I remember Bryan Adams saying those Can Con regulations were a breeding ground for mediocrity. My response? "So you're saying it's a breeding ground..."

I love the way the bass player just sticks to the nut, lets everybody spread out. y'know?
The harmony singers take this song from a 7.5 to a 10.1.

Why'd you ruin the song by putting Shannon Doherty's picture as the video?
