This is a beautiful car. My Dad had this model of car when we were kids, here in New Zealand they were all column change gears, they had a big advantage over the Holdens with 4 speeds rather than 3 in the Holdens. It was probably our favourite family car.
I was a ford mechanic back in the 1960s and used work on these cars used to love road testing the police models and watching the other cars slow down. Police ones came in for there 500 mile service then their own mechanics serviced them . A far better car than the mk4.
This car reminds me of being young in the 70s, my uncle steven had one in goodwood green and green interior, this red one could be a really lovely car the body needs a quality repaint and a new interior its too nice not too , can't be too many good ones left.
I remember when Ford introduced this style of car , Zodiac and Zephyr. They were amazing at the time and part of the period when Ford (and Vauxhall) introduced some great large cars. It's a shame those days ended some years ago and hence particularly responsible for Ford etc, producing boring styles 🥱🥱☹️☹️
Throw the 13" wheels away and put 14" on them. Free flow headers and a better carburetor makes them go a bit better and electronic ignition. They always played up starting them after a while.
This car is very rare because it is one of the very few with a Floor Change Gearbox and you had to lift a collar to select reverse. My father had one new in 1963. I am fairly sure that that red was never an option from new and I don't think it suits the car.
Was just wondering about the floor shift Also noted the original exhaust manifold Once was told many years ago if the exhaust manifold was upgraded to a free flow type that would equal about 10 percent more power. Never knew if this was correct, but it sounded good.
I agree concerning the colour. Mine was maroon. (1963 year) The floor change was an option but mostly found on Zodiacs tho' mine had a Zodiac engine & 'box fitted, much nicer than the columb change, also with 7" reverse rims and the first of the wide section road tyres (1971) Goodyear Rallye Specials, think they were 195's and £28 quid each (a good weeks wage back then) topped of with a Ruddspeed alloy head but with only twin SU's. The Zodiac motor was rated 10 bhp more than the stock Zephyr 6 and with an improved exhaust manifold. Bought from a local scrapyard and with no first gear it served me well for 18 months 'till it found a new owner and met a tractor in a lane. Sad!
Poor paint job, not original colour sounds rough. Red mirror..? Renovated on the cheap, if mechanicals have had similar attention, could be a disaster. Not going to fetch much.
My grandfather drove a Ford Zephyr 6 just like this in the 1960s . It was white and he kept it in immaculate condition.

My parents bought one new in 1965 ,after a string of consuls,mk 1 and 2 . Ours was registered EI 7634 . They were a cultural Icon 😅

I remember seeing one of these, nearly new, in a crash where one front wing was peeled back. Full of rust !! Beautiful but not made to last....

One of the original Dagenham Dustbins, as they were known at the time.

lovely car i just hit 55 last month would be happy driving a car from 1964
Did notice that the offside rear wheel arch had what looked like bulging in the seams!

4.28 massive crack in the dash pad, kinda makes you question other comments about minor imperfections.
Its only firing on 5 cylinders and it needs stripping back to bare metal and a proper paint job ( in a different colour) baked in an oven.
What have you done to your arm mate?

Ford carmine red was available on the Ford zephyr 4 and 6 mk111. But what you see here isn't carmine red .

Only the zodiac had 4 headlights both mk3 and mk4 all zephyrs 4 and 6 only had 2 headlights
Didn't the zephyr six have 4 headlights ?
zodiac did
Little crack you can’t see? Same engine as my Cousins MK2 Zodiac which had a column change and a slightly tweaked engine.

SLOWLY.. stop moving the camera so frantically!
Far too shite and briny for me. I wonder what's hiding under the micro blisters?
Well it needs a respray but ideal for everyday use
Do you think the car is "tidy?"
