We need more affordable homes, better mental healthcare, meaningful jobs, they need proper nutrition and more health support. Homelessness can happen to unemployed, depressed, people with no family/support.
People cannot even afford mental health. Albert Einstein called capitalism "the Predatory Phase of Human Development" and said that our democratic system only serves the interests of the ruling elite.
I've been homeless, and ill be again in a few months it seems (mental health housing is being shut down) in Muskoka. No shelters here, no soup kitchens. It's not just a big city issue.. not by far. Ingrouping and outgrouping is the real issue, when it's all whittled down. There will never be a cure for this societal sickness.. but good to know some folk are trying to doctor it anyway. Kudos.
Homelessness . . . is a tragedy that can effect anyone, everyone . . . at any time. It's all about 'being in the wrong place, at the wrong time !' I'm an alum . . . every day, is a blessing, in having a roof . . . over one's head !
Homelessness is a business in North America. Lack of family values, isolated society, pharmaceutical industry, drugs and alcohol on the streets, high cost of living, expensive schooling, gaps in health and social system, lacking in prevention, lack of educational resources in the school system are the reason why capitalistic society creates homelessness and high rate of mental illness, addictions and life style against human rights. Socialism system is the best system! People had less but they were equal in rights, and had life with less stress, and more time for family and friends. Neither of these mentioned problems and their causes every exist. If you end homelessness most of social services wouldn’t exist, police would have less work, the same goes for people at court and hospital, pharmaceutical industry would make less money, housing wouldn't be such a business. etc .That's why homelssness will be part of the game.... To end homelessness put housing price down, take drugs and alcohol away from the streets, provide society with less stress where people will have time for each other, work on family values, domestic violence charges and charge double tax parents who kicked out kids on the street, change social policy and fix the gaps in the system, change health care policy dont play experimental games with drugs that make mental illness even worse, work on prevention, educate children in school from early days, school to be affordable to each person in society, create employment , get rid of fake crisis, stop lie in media, dont be silent, fight for the right.
TheKriss63 we need to do more to address drug addiction in high schools. I know many people how became addicted to drugs and alcohol through the people they meet at the local high school.
I have no data on this, but I would assume homelessness (both without family and shelter) is more prevalent in rich countries as there is more data on this. In poorer countries, a household may consist of extended family members to combat the lack of shelters.
I don't understand how come many people coming to Canada who get decent jobs and don't end up homeless while some Canadians end up sleeping on the streets due to what they call extreme poverty.
Albert Quirante skewed the reasons homeless people don't go to a doctor or hospital when they need to. He makes it sound like they don't seek medical help due to self-esteem issues. The reality is that homeless people don't go because they already know they will not be helped no matter what, because they are deemed unworthy of the help by staff at hospitals and doctors, so why bother running around for nothing. Homeless people know that unless someone deemed "reliable" goes in with them, they will just get booted out or run around for nothing. St. Paul's hospital in Vancouver is such a hospital. In fact most in BC are like that.
Homelessness is from calous cold sick brokers and realitors that do speculating that determines what the highest affordable rate of housing can be and charges rent and cost of housing accordingly. The cost of cars does not go up because people have more income. The profession needs to be professionalized and regulated. Need to have college degrees. We live in a sick society. When I was young there was no homelessness because housing was cheap and not over valued.
Never allow yourself to take a youtube comment by "James Bond" seriously, because his so called "facts" aren't based on any reliable or valid source, but rather on ignorance, prejudice, arrogance, and a serious lack of empathy.
Homeless people are more likely to be violent than the regular person. Most People who are on the Streets are using Drugs and and tend to have Mental Problems. Not saying they are all, but in general they are.
Housing in the US and other Darwinian Capitalist countries is a monetized speculative commodity first and a place to live second. This is why homelessness endures and expands in the US. NIMBY's don't want homeless people in their neighborhoods because they are protecting their home's value as a commodity they leverage to live above their income restricted means.
I blame the government immigration dump on no jobs the bank mob government is satanic in Canada , only females qualify in corrupt Calgary, , Alberta doesn't take care of their own people,
I'm not homeless but I'm a PWD in winterpeg in poverty and one of my fears is being homeless because of not being able to keep a job for many years

Does homelessness exist in poorer countries, or is it just more prevalent in wealthy countries?

Dar Cortez stop voting liberal. Diversity is everywhere but in the homeless.
This situation happens because Trudeau takes care of new Immigrants rather than caring for we long generations of Canadians
