I count my blessings to have a place of my own in the country. Being retired and low income I know that I could easily find myself homeless. To help make ends meet I've taken in 2 tenants: retired older women with their own RVs. They get security, electricity, water/sewer and we can share my garden space and internet. I get a modest rent from them which makes my situation workable. We help and look out for each other. I give thanks to God .
dude thats sisterhood :D you guys can do a book club together while you garden. id recommend growing zucchini arch so you can sit and relax under the shade of the vines and leaves... all you need is two large poles (partially buried, about 6.5 feet from the ground), two large planters, and a large wire grid to make the arch, the poles supporting the apex of the arch. it produces a lot of food and a gazebo.
Only if the hope is conformed at some point. Dissapointed hope is an awful feeling. This project builds actual houses for homeless people so it is definitely a good thing. But mere hope could have been dangerous.
I would like to show this to the City Council in the city of Olympia Wa. We have a HUGE Homeless CRISIS happening NOW . I myself have been homeless on more then a few occasions . Though I am no longer homeless I still remember those hard times . These are DESPRETLY NEEDED . Thank you for all you do.
Sorry, I should have said this sooner: The video has a Creative Commons licence on that allows to play it more or less where you want. Yes, you can play it to city council, or at other places such as meetings or fundraisers.
Bulk Logan these places need to be tax exempt, like the churches that Take up entire city blocks and bring in trillions of dollars in collections every year. As for security, volunteers from neighborhood watch to patrol the neighborhood
We need towns to set aside land for these types of self housing It is better than the alternative of homeless people living on the street and in shelters and in parks with no toilet spreading hepatitis and other diseases like they are now
This documentary should be required viewing for every government employee with any involvement in social housing. Of course the models to the south in Eugene and Seattle are the way to go. People have to get out of the dangerous environments of the homeless shelters and tent cities. These places are scary, and demeaning. Everyone needs a safe, warm, private sanctuary with a lock on the door. The cost eventually becomes much less of a burden on our taxes simply by less policing and medical requirements. It's a no brainer, and frankly, amazingly frustrating and infuriating that it can't happen in the lower mainland. Why can't Vancouver become a model for the world. Until this happens, we are a backwards thinking, blindfolded society that shuts itself off from true reality that is going to be so overwhelming in ten years from now, you won't be able to leave your house, without confronting homelessness. We'd better learn how to effectively deal with it soon, before it swamps us.
In none of this rant have u addressed any of the reason people become homeless. No mention of the people that want to be homeless. The people that just want a hand out or any reason y they decide to live in tent cities instead of going to a shelter or y ur city has so many homeless. Seems u have no understanding of the complex problem this is. Maybe do some reaebefore throwing out generalized solutions that have been tried and failed like the fact we tried housing and they treat it like the tent cities and it cost a ton of money to condemn these places
I've been following this epidemic of homelessness & mentally ill people forced to the streets for years. I know many of the reasons why it happens, but I really don't have a viable solution for it any more than anyone else. I'd be happy to listen to your solutions, as long as it doesn't involve prison or homeless shelters, which are pretty close to the same thing. Governments wasting our tax $ on reports is disgusting.

It's great to have a video like this that offers practical strategy. There's very little digestible information like this relating to the situation in Vancouver. My only suggestion is to include some easy ways for people to become involved. Please add more videos on this issue and some practical political advice for people who want to affect change but don't have the basic knowledge to do so.
Thank you for this. It opens the discussion without the usual bias and fear. If we can not have conversations about hard problems we will not be able to do better as a species.

Yes! I know of a gentleman who lost everything, pet friendly and still lives in one in Cleveland Ohio for 8 years. It has a full kitchen, regular refrigerator, your own bathroom, and bed. Some have two beds perfect for a single parent and child. Thank you sir for helping people who deserve a better life.🕊

These camps are a great solution for homeless people, to have a roof over their head, whether a tent or little house. Some will get their life together, and others won't, but at least they won't be on the streets, under bridges, abandoned buildings.

@@randygardener yes. They can 'disappear' out of your control if you lose your job and tried to buy as much house as you could afford in as nice a neighborhood as you could afford with a good school system for your kids. Housing prices were jumping in low double digits for a decade before 2008. Watching things get worse every year and finally jumping into the housing market in 2006 was how a coworker owned a house worth 35% less than what he paid for it 2 years after he bought it. Fortunately he still had a job. One that he qualified for the original higher value. Not everyone still had a job after 2008. Hopefully it won't get that bad again.
randygardener.....Our house is paid off, yet it gets tougher each year to afford the taxes on it. I think that property taxes should be abolished! Once someone pays off their house, it should be theirs free and clear, with no continual threat that the government can still take it away for late property taxes! Yes, your house can go away, if you can’t afford the mortgage anymore or if you can’t afford the taxes.
Thank you for this video. Thank you to all Who are doing their part to serve our brothers and sisters. . I cook for and feed people who are homeless. They are grateful and kind hearted. We are praying for property to allow people to live. It would be a dream! They will need to camp out in tents at firs t and have portable potties. Eventually, small homes with a bedroom and storage for their few possessions. A common kitchen to cook for them. The people can help prepare the food too. I'd like to have bathroom, showers and laundry mat eventually. My coworkers are saints. We never judge why someone is in this situation (thats not our job) but just serve them as if they are Christ in our midst.
I am sorry you did not like the music. I think that it is an excellent song and I was glad that Fraser Union donated its use to this video project. Unfortunately, I needed to use it as background music, which meant that I needed to use splices of the instrumental parts of the song. I have listened to many people talk about this feeling and it seems to be much about the feeling of hopelessness and despair. To be seen in public by everyone yet you for the most part are blanked out and ignored. I was waiting for a taxi at a shopping center and decided to sit on the ground as it was hot and I was feeling tired when a middle aged woman looked at me and though I was a homeless person. She glared at me and smirked slightly giving a look of almost hatred. Its hard to describe but for a brief moment I knew exactly what flashed through her mind as it was written all over her face. I was wearing all grey clothes that were what I used to go to work in so not looking smart in any way. She couldn't hide what she was thinking but I remember thinking what if people treated me like this all day one after the other..? It would feel terrible and I would begin to believe that I was worthless also. I watched a british TV programme where 5-6 wealthy celebrities switched their lives over to live as a homeless person for 1 or 2 weeks and their time would be filmed day in day out. Within the first day and night there was only a few remaining and after 3 nights all of them quit because they couldn't cope with the cold, hunger, fearing for your safety and public abuse. They could quit at any time however non had the 'whatever it takes' to last out even for the first week. I imagine this situation would very quickly attack your mental health putting you in a state of crippling anxiety, depression and then the feeling of being seen as a subhuman piece of shit. I am trying to find the programme again and remember one of the celebs taking part was an actor from Coronation Street. I am just wondering what you found out to be the worst aspect of being homeless..?
its gonna take 6 months to get that song out of my head---no offense to the singer-- when putting together a documentary why would someone decide to play one song nonstop?--it is a great documentary tho
This is a great video good idea most City should do this make tiny houses I live in my van and I do alternative living on my videos but this is exactly what I'm talking about I tell people this way out people don't have to pay her rent and mortgages you can live small and it simple because after all you need is somebody to sleep at night in the day time you go to work if possible
I have been looking at shipping container housing that can be built over say 2 yrs by one or two people. I found this guy who built his own using two shipping containers set apart by a raised central area. He used solar for electricity and hot water, sourced used windows and doors situated near a woodland and small lake with a few cattle. He learned by himself doing almost all the work himself except for the Septic Tanks which hire contractors for. He got all his energy costs down to almost zero after initial layout. He is still finishing off the project starting by living onsite in a small campervan for $1800 with his lovely wife who fell pregnant during the end of the first yr but they coped and continued forging ahead despite making some mistakes along the way. He installed giant water tanks from collected rain water, generated electricity from solar also hot water from solar with batteries. I think this would be a beautiful way to house people permanently as these containers were cleaned up and painted for protection. They were mounted on 5 ft concrete pillars off ground and when closing to completion they looked so beautiful and attractive with gardens on the roof giving a look of a modern passive house design. Two containers with adjoining central raised area made for a spacious well thought out design that really got my mind thinking that I could sell my little brick house built around the turn of the 20th century into a vastly superior and cost effective dream home. My little cottage costs me an arm and a leg to heat and run where a container home could be almost free to power after initial cost layout. Every yr it costs me more for heating and taxes where the solar electricity and hot water on a container house would be almost free. It would also be cheaper if we shared a plot of land and could get a like minded bunch interested parties to work alongside each other. Its a project that could be learned along the way as long as one committed to the plan and put in consistent effort. It would I think also be fun to take on because you would be so involved in almost every effort. I really do think people will run with this idea more and more as it become much more obvious even two people working the cost of living is becoming harder and harder so we have reached a point that the normal wage which used to be the guy bringing home the bacon was enough to pay for all this has gone beyond now even man and wife both working or one of each working two jobs is not enough to pay for the rents, mortgage and sustenance!!! Its not something along the lines of hard times are here and at some point things will fall back into line where it is affordable but rather it is here to say at best but it will get from now on worse and worse to the pont where we have most people out on the streets unable to afford to just live indoors.
At least they're not being harassed for just trying to stay alive, (in response to your header question) it's a start, a meager one at best but if it helps our fellow man live in some peace or safety and circumvent this scourge of national/global homelessness, I'M ALL FOR IT!!!
The government sends in the military to BUILD, not destroy, Tent Cities for asylums seekers at the border. That is the best way to go. Build tent cities for Canadian homeless, TOO.
So it appears that the state of Oregon is the ONLY ppl who care enough to help the homeless.....God bless the people who truly, truly want somewhere safe and warm for the many homeless souls! Other states and Canada should follow Oregon's example and do something to get the homeless in these other states in the U.S.
Dear Yetta, there are some organizations trying to help but the unfortunate truth is oregon has been a place where people can get away with stuff. We have a mayor who celebrates lawlessness and a governor whose platform is her bisexuality. Some of our officials through the years have been nothing more than greedy domestic terrorists who habitually cut off necessary services and practice nepotism. Look up what happened with Kitzhaber and his wife. Some of us found friends, neighbors and work and we are going to live where we're going to live. Enforcement aaaand rehabilitation/support is both needed.

Mostly it's theseoregonians are just letting people get away with shit. That's the majority. Other states should not be following this example. Hooper Detox has been shut down so there has been a major source of frontline help knocked out. The police have been cut somewhat in the name of almighty budget cuts. Some more homeless people have been bussed up here. Ted Wheeler has done NOTHING about Antifa. Instead he has asked us residents if we could spare our yards for homeless people to sleep, eat and shit on.we need to have more wrap around services. Periodically we find a body in the pond in the park.the so-called officials cut mental health services. Acting stupid is socially acceptable. Some of us have already sold and moved because of this kind of horsecrap.

As someone on the autism spectrum with a father currently homeless in Vancouver.. i appreciate so much these viewpoints, the ideas of humans who genuinely care for humans.. i can't wait to volunteer more and learn wisdom from such warriors!!
I don't understand why we can't just utilize a skyscraper with 7x7 foot units and a community bathroom for each 20 people... Being a single minority female in my 30s with no kids and 3 college degrees, able bodied, and just feeling so insecure about my situation. I was arrested for someone else's dui 2 years ago and was kept in jail for 7 months. After bailing out $3000, and losing my van, truck, job and house, no one wanted to be my friend. On top of that I was coerced into pleaing to assault on a peace officer... It has made me look like a criminal. I am an honest , hardworking person who didn't so much as steal a candy bar or lie to anyone before this all happened. But the truth didn't get me too far. Right now, I am dealing with countless court cases which have arisen from me trying to stand up for my rights which a) are ignored by the judicial system, law enforcement, and bosses(excluding whale city bakery...that was the most awesome job and owners and management EVER!!) but I could go on and on forever about the injustice an discrimination I've been dealing with, and these videos are all warm and fuzzy, but it's an inaccurate depiction of real life
I am sorry to hear what you have been through. I hope you will get through it soon. I am sorry if my video leaves you with the impression that homelessness is a warm and fuzzy thing. It is definitely not. Video's target audience are people who have never known homelessness. These people often attempt to drive camps of homelessness people out of their neighbourhoods. One of the goals of video is to show that houseless people are not to be feared. So I try to show a lot of very normal houseless people in the video. A homeless camp can give houseless people a tiny bit of stability which can help houseless people get back on their feet. It is surprising to me to see how quickly people turn around when they have a safe place to sleep, eat and store their stuff. A tiny house, conestoga hut or even a tent in a secure location can be that safe place. Thus camps can be a benefit to the houseless. They can help society overall by reducing homelessness, visits to hospitals, and other social problems that accompany homelessness. So when a city resident discovers that there is a homeless camp in their neighbourhood, I hope they will go over to the camp and see if there is something they can do to help rather than calling the police... Again, I am sorry to hear what you have been through and hope that things will improve soon.
I've been to the Portland site. It was impressive and some what sad at the same time. The federal government seems to be the biggest problem. I was just visiting Portland, to much rain for me.
I would fence this compound with opaque fencing to protect the homeless. Good fences make for good neighbors. Saw where one community had a code of conduct that added to community good feelings. This village sounds like it needs it.
In the video I realised that even though it was a great community which reached out to the homeless, I heard that they have evicted people for breaking the rules thus creating homelessness. So in summary there seems that there will always be homeless because of eviction. There is only one place I know of that doesn’t have eviction that being prison. So there has to be an answer somewhere between eviction and a place that you can’t be evicted from eg prison. I don’t know what the answer is but I believe this is a really good starting point when thinking of ways to end homeless. It has to start at the eviction and some how to a place to sleep. My eviction was at 15 years old and homeless for many years currently had the same job for 10 years and I’m able to save a little but I’m still don’t feel safe to say that I won’t be homeless again because there is nothing in place at the point of eviction.
I don't think not having rules is the answer. If people can't see how the village is worth following the rules, then.... yeah, I don't know what the answer is. I don't think there should be excessive ridiculous rules, but also there needs to be enough rules to maintain a safe, well-working village. Maybe one thing to try is to allow some sort of 3 strikes rule with mandatory counseling on the matter after the first strike, or some sort of chance to explain, etc. Maybe that would help.
@@butterflybreath75 I stayed at a shelter with 3 kids when I was homeless and they tell you the rules that have zero tolerance when you first arrive. Most other problems they would tell someone and have them rectify the situation without kicking them out but if you're continually making problems they reserve the right to kick anyone out. Rules are necessary to keep things safe, sanitary and peaceful for everyone. And it's not as if you're not made aware of the rules ahead of time.
I notice these comment sections on homeless videos hardly anyone comments,I wonder if they just dont want to accept this atrocity in America, there has to be a better solution without being imprisoned like a fema camp of some sorts,I believe this needs to be addressed asap,as it seems to be on the rise again,I cant imagine, I thank God everyday for my home, its just an old mobile home I pay LOT rent, yet its my home,im sad for these people 😢
Homelessness is not the problem. It’s the drugs!! People would make better decisions in life if they weren’t whacked outta their minds on heroin, crack and meth! That’s the real issue that no one wants to acknowledge
As one the homeless myself, I could definitely live in one of the Conestoga Huts without any degree of claustrophobia. In fact, the compactness would psychologically be beneficial, since sleep deprivation is a detrimental problem physically and mentally. Also at 13:57 are the Quonset awnings with the dome tents pitched within which are an excellent idea. Unfortunately ( let's be realistically objective please?) , there will be opposition to the solutions demonstrated here. First being the independent off the grid alternative living options that civic and government officials will be coerced to prevent due to loss of revenue and profit (by we all know who) and also the claim that property values will decrease even with appropriate fencing and trees (just like theirs but that's different and it just is! nimby wankers!). Secondly, we all us are IMHO mentally symptomatic from the street all the way to the (most especially) elite in power. Our social economic political climate are preventing the focus on the cause instead of the results and logical solutions. Cheers
Thank you for your comment on the Conestoga Huts. I agree that there will be opposition to these camps. However, I hope my video, other people's videos and advocates of the homeless will help people see these camps and the struggles of homeless people in a more compassionate light.

We all have a responsibility to the homeless we can all be there in the blink of an eye, they need a hand up not a hand out, god bless all these wonderful people🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just got back from hiking into a homeless tent community about 1 hour ago. I dropped off a camp stove, butane cannisters, new sleeping bags, and food. It is 26 degrees F and the wind is blowing. No human beings should be living out in the freezing cold like this. Most of these people work at ********* nearbye. They are not lazy. They just cannot afford rent.
An ethical way to handle the un-housed problem. Better than having cops lose their soul, constantly forcing people to move and stealing what little these folks have.

This was over 4 years ago, before this "pandemic" came and the world started falling apart. I wonder if any of the people who made the video or anyone here that has watched it EVER thought the world would be where it is today. Seems like this sort of way of dealing with homelessness will be a big part of the future given that so many people are losing their homes and being evicted now.
I really like the cleanliness and how everything is set up and organized. The rents in conventional housing is continuing to sky rocket because Landlords are just so greedy forcing families out doors.
I just can't understand where so many homeless people get money to smoke, drug and drink? WHERE does that "worthless/empty" money comes from? Yes, there is a percentage of people who have NOTHING (no drugs, alcohol, or cigarette in their bundles). This is NOT a criticism; but a genuine question/interest.😊
Cigarettes are $6+ in Virginia in 2019. A pack a day habit is over $2000 a year. It took me 30+ years to quit. Would rather not think about the wasted money. Just glad I finally quit 10 years ago. Hope everyone can do the same. 🙂

I wish that authorities in Germany allowed by law permanent living on campsites under certain conditions, like sufficient sanitary buildings.. By now, it has only been tolerated while they want to end tolerating. For troubled people, they ought to set up special, homeless camps in Germany as well while others can simply buy or rent a permanent lodge on an ordinary campsite. We have enough campsites to end people living on the streets. If they end tolerating permant living on campsites due to bureaucracy, this will lead to rising numbers of people living on the streets. Such would be inhumane! We ought to end the mainstream mindset that everybody should live in a house or flat while working 40+ hours a week and that those not doing so are losers. Not everybody wants to or can fit into mainstream society, but everybody has a right to have a place to live, whatever it might be.
Well, as Scott just blow said, giving people hope is always a good thing! And this sure does give people hope! Hope for the homeless persons! Thank you very much.

I love this. I wish we had a homeless village here, the homeless here sleep in the woods(virginia). Btw love the music. In these parts we listen (and play) lots of bluegrass
Property taxes got so bad here with the local tax and spend democrats, we have a new class of homeless, that are still working, and the school bus drops off kids at the tent City.

The first place said they are on 2 acres with 48 or so residents and up to 60 when cold. Very poor use of land, if they used 12x14 sheds that would make plenty room for over 250 homeless homes with a bathrooms for all and club house leaving room to move around. With thousands of homeless, using 2 acres for only 48-60 people is not going to work. Math 2 acres = 87,120 sq ft. 12x14 shed = 168 sq ft. 87,120\168=518 sheds touching each other so 250 with moving room. These are for homeless NOT for living for ever. Of course a lot more is need then I said here but beats tents on a muddy ground.
Kudos to Jeffrey Dean Caldwell - (featured in this video) - now there’s a person who’s giving back! He recognizes how the community helped him when he was in tough times, and now he’s getting back! And kudos to Portland Oregon because I always look at that city as a champion of what to do next! I studied architecture UBC. A couple of my professors two were ex pat Americans (maybe draft dodgers? Who knows) anyway , they came from Portland Oregon. I always feel like I went to “the Portland school of architecture, at UBC”, rather “the UBC school of pro-developer/capitalist architecture” I learned so much about social welfare in architecture .... and how we need to build our cities from the ground up. A civilized city is where everyone is housed, and there should be no human wreckage upon our streets.
That is just so wonderful. It just warms my heart and breaks it at the same time. I am lucky for the moment to have a roof over my head but very soon I will be in a van and thankful for it. God bless
I am sorry to hear that you may be in a van. It has been terrible what people have been going through. I hope that your faith and fortitude will help you through these difficult times. Take care Lucas
My brother lost everything that he had except his small SUV and he lived in it for aprox 3 months in a Walmart parking lot in New Mexico. But he is a real go getter and was gifted to get a job and then found a house to rent with 3 roomates and now he has a very good job in Texas and just bought a New house. I am so proud of him because he never got into drugs or any of that behavior. I am the one that did that kind of shit. He is 53 and I am 63 and in recovery because of opiates. I alway help out and also pray for the homeless. Some just lost things because of the economy. I know if it were not for my partner I would have become homeless again. And also for the power of God and prayer. I never judge anyone.
Thank you. I am glad that your brother was able to get back on his feet. It is a really hard thing to do, so your pride in him is justified. I wish you continued success in your recovery. Take care LJ
I love that you get where the people are in one area. Places like this don't allow drugs so that's good. Also you have food there for them and rest rooms.Don't have the trash allover the place.I like that they can get an education and graduate. So you have people moving on with a job giving back. C.M.
I heard one person say they had been there 6 years??? I thought these shelters were a temporary solution for people; not a permanent answer for their needs. Or am I wrong? G Are the people making good attempts at finding work and a way to get on their feet?
I noticed that your camp don't have many wheelchair accessible units except for the bathroom and common area. None of the sleeping quarters are wheelchair accessible. There are alot of homeless people who are in wheelchairs both manual and electric. You might think about building a few tiny houses or huts that have wheelchair ramps for those in need.
Anna Daniels: Homeless people in wheelchairs? They should be in nursing homes. How the hell do they take care of their personal needs; washing, changing their clothes, sleeping if they can't get back in their chair after laying down?
I'm in a wheelchair and I can get in and out of my chair after laying down in my bed. I take care of myself pretty well. I bathe myself, dress myself and all my other personal needs. Not everyone in a wheelchair is dependant on others. Some of us can still do some things for ourselves. so before you go putting someone in a nursing home that don't need one just yet do some research and think about what your saying. Put yourself in a disabled persons shoes.
Anna Daniels: Yes, in your bed. And in your home. But in the street? In my state if a social worker can't find suitable housing for a paraplegic or hemiplegic they are placed in a nursing home. There they can go on a waiting list or something. Those in apartments in my state can get help with housekeeping and have someone come and lift them into a bathtub with a lifting device a couple of times a week, which is better than a shower chair.
(speaking from being homeless for 5 years) All depends. There has to be a centralized motivation for it to actually help people. Throwing people who are struggling with mental health and addiction into a makeshift camp is a bad idea, will not work. Has to be support, emotional and physical. needs to be structure to reshape and transform them. (They have too want change no one can force them) Training the people to work together and listen each other is imperative to success. Most of these people just need someone to talk to. A shoulder to cry on. They need a bit of hope and inspiration. They need community more then ever. For me what really helped was removing all the noise/pressure society makes. I simplified my life and retreated into myself to find direction. Now i have direction and want to help others who are in the same position. I Believe wholeheartedly for homelessness to change, these homeless community are a step in the right direction, As long as the Director or person in charge is involved and Serious about severing others above himself/herself.
What is kind of interesting of these camps where people find community, self governance, respect and other things these people talk about and it's the city (government) that threatens them. They are basically republicans.
@ljm7848 has Vancouver looked at using older cruise ships as affordable housing? San Francisco Bay area cities have twice but (like many things in California) getting the powers that be to implement innovative ideas has been highly difficult. With the vast number of decommissioned ships that still float well but are no longer fit to cross oceans and the array of high cost of living areas on the ocean, it seems like an obvious innovative next step in areas with expensive real estate. Also approach it as mixed income housing like Singapore does with high-rise apartment blocks so it doesn't get dismissed as a "floating slum/housing project".

You're such a blessing to those ladies
dude thats sisterhood :D you guys can do a book club together while you garden. id recommend growing zucchini arch so you can sit and relax under the shade of the vines and leaves... all you need is two large poles (partially buried, about 6.5 feet from the ground), two large planters, and a large wire grid to make the arch, the poles supporting the apex of the arch. it produces a lot of food and a gazebo.

Only if the hope is conformed at some point. Dissapointed hope is an awful feeling. This project builds actual houses for homeless people so it is definitely a good thing. But mere hope could have been dangerous.

Like the last guy said. Been working and paying taxes for 30 years trying to do the right thing... I hope he's doing well.
This is how homelessness needs to be done
Small homes in a trailer park setting with 24 hour security
And who will pay for the security and property taxes? NON WORKING HOMELESS JUNKIES?
Bulk Logan these places need to be tax exempt, like the churches that Take up entire city blocks and bring in trillions of dollars in collections every year.
As for security, volunteers from neighborhood watch to patrol the neighborhood
We need towns to set aside land for these types of self housing
It is better than the alternative of homeless people living on the street and in shelters and in parks with no toilet spreading hepatitis and other diseases like they are now
Even those with just a sleeping bag could be part of it. Politicians need to get a clue.
@@bulklogan539 The homeless can take shifts being on watch.

We'd better learn how to effectively deal with it soon, before it swamps us.
hit the nail on the head.
City Councils vote against tiny house initiatives, sadly.
It saves on the street sweeps too and all the garbage and waste.
This is a no brainier...but the government loves complex and convoluted solutions to simple problems.

Housing prices were jumping in low double digits for a decade before 2008.
Watching things get worse every year and finally jumping into the housing market in 2006 was how a coworker owned a house worth 35% less than what he paid for it 2 years after he bought it.

The people can help prepare the food too. I'd like to have bathroom, showers and laundry mat eventually.

I am sorry you did not like the music. I think that it is an excellent song and I was glad that Fraser Union donated its use to this video project. Unfortunately, I needed to use it as background music, which meant that I needed to use splices of the instrumental parts of the song. I ended up using the chorus, the intro and a single musical break over and over which can be a bit much for some people. Totally my fault...
It is an excellent song sung by an excellent group. Here is the entire song in another video that I did: th-cam.com/video/Od0JNifnftM/w-d-xo.html

Music didn’t trouble me at all.
California has closed bases. They could do something like that.
Background music isn't needed... Difficult to hear the speakers...

Thank you for this! I love stories about frugal eco-warriors!
Brilliant!
At least they're not being harassed for just trying to stay alive, (in response to your header question) it's a start, a meager one at best but if it helps our fellow man live in some peace or safety and circumvent this scourge of national/global homelessness, I'M ALL FOR IT!!!
This video is kind and thoughtful. It is amazingly insightful. Thank you for uploading it and composing it.
It seems it helps with positive feelings.
The government sends in the military to BUILD, not destroy, Tent Cities for asylums seekers at the border. That is the best way to go. Build tent cities for Canadian homeless, TOO.
One where my heart works. You ought to try it.

Having a place to stay is the immediate solution for homeless!
How can someone take a step forward if they have no place to stand?
Very good. We need this sort of thing for all homeless in and across America. Specially for homeless veterans as well. Humanity shows here.
May God Bless all those who are helping and Looking out for those People in need of Help
There is no answer. Break it all into nothing.answers come. It has to come down to.burning ash.
This is a great start Thank-you
I notice these comment sections on homeless videos hardly anyone comments,I wonder if they just dont want to accept this atrocity in America, there has to be a better solution without being imprisoned like a fema camp of some sorts,I believe this needs to be addressed asap,as it seems to be on the rise again,I cant imagine, I thank God everyday for my home, its just an old mobile home I pay LOT rent, yet its my home,im sad for these people 😢
Homelessness is not the problem.
First being the independent off the grid alternative living options that civic and government officials will be coerced to
prevent due to loss of revenue and profit (by we all know who) and also the claim that property values will decrease even
with appropriate fencing and trees (just like theirs but that's different and it just is! nimby wankers!).
Secondly, we all us are IMHO mentally symptomatic from the street all the way to the (most especially) elite in power.
Our social economic political climate are preventing the focus on the cause instead of the results and logical
solutions.
Cheers
Thank you for your comment on the Conestoga Huts. I agree that there will be opposition to these camps. However, I hope my video, other people's videos and advocates of the homeless will help people see these camps and the struggles of homeless people in a more compassionate light.

Thank you for doing this.

An ethical way to handle the un-housed problem. Better than having cops lose their soul, constantly forcing people to move and stealing what little these folks have.
These need to go up. I was homeless years ago. I came close to that again. I now have a low-income apt.
These little camps are pretty cool, especially the little tiny houses, i could definitely live in one of them by myself,

Do you ever ask yourself who will end up with all that real estate?
I really like the cleanliness and how everything is set up and organized. The rents in conventional housing is continuing to sky rocket because Landlords are just so greedy forcing families out doors.
High rents and utilities.
Love thy neighbor and lend a hand!
I hope all the homeless people can have there own tiny home to feel comfortable. ☺

How about the old tracks along 6th between Cambie and Alder Crossing? Plenty of room for a village.

I always feel like I went to “the Portland school of architecture, at UBC”, rather “the UBC school of pro-developer/capitalist architecture”
I learned so much about social welfare in architecture .... and how we need to build our cities from the ground up.

So impressive
I love that you get where the people are in one area. Places like this don't allow drugs so that's good. Also you have food there for them and rest rooms.Don't have the trash allover the place.I like that they can get an education and graduate. So you have people moving on with a job giving back. C.M.
I heard one person say they had been there 6 years??? I thought these shelters were a temporary solution for people; not a permanent answer for their needs.
Or am I wrong?
G
Are the people making good attempts at finding work and a way to get on their feet?
I noticed that your camp don't have many wheelchair accessible units except for the bathroom and common area. None of the sleeping quarters are wheelchair accessible. There are alot of homeless people who are in wheelchairs both manual and electric. You might think about building a few tiny houses or huts that have wheelchair ramps for those in need.
Anna Daniels Thats funny I saw a bunch.
Those in apartments in my state can get help with housekeeping and have someone come and lift them into a bathtub with a lifting device a couple of times a week, which is better than a shower chair.
you don't know the first thing of what the fuck you are talking about.
(They have too want change no one can force them)
Training the people to work together and listen each other is imperative to success.
If people are just homeless from no fault of their own, then they should be givin help at least to live in a small damp free, warm home.
Thank you for this work!!!!
Thank you! I put a lot of work into this video...
What is kind of interesting of these camps where people find community, self governance, respect and other things these people talk about and it's the city (government) that threatens them.
They are basically republicans.
I laughed so hard and punched my bed because this was too damn accurate!
Not really. They are limousine-liberal Democrats.
Why are people always boasting about Canada's great welfare and healthcare system?
Good question.
This seems to be akin to how the 'projects', in the cities, were established...How has that turned out?
