The Mac pro for years had "channel" cooling and I have always like that type of cooling. One huge fan can be made to be a lot more quieter then 5 or 6 tiny fans for sure. It's just logical in my mind. Intel BTX had these ideas too. I thought BTX was a huge step forward from ATX, but ATX still won the day.
can anyone comment on noise level of this thing? is it whisper quiet? how many decibel sounds? 21dB? 27dB? 30dB? please talk about noise levels when dealing with workstations
im looking to upgrade my machine. wanted to go custom until i saw this. if i can get this in an AMD config to save $ i will jump on it. im so glad you guys uploaded this unboxing.
You won't be able to get an AMD config, Intel Xeon only. Unless you mean GPU, in which case you can just order one without the GPU and throw your own in.
thanks for clearing that up for me. great machine. but i have a nice relationship with amd so if i have to invest in a workstation at that range i must have Opteron. but wow that design looks brilliant and efficient. IBM/Lenovo is always number 1 but they need to start offering AMD solutions. Ill have to go Tyan Unless I can get Something Custom From Lenovo?
I would love to see a review too, but these systems have so many configurations, and focus on long-term stability, that a short-term review may not cut it. Either way, I am very impressed by the aesthetics, design and functionality, I may just get one myself...
This thing is far too loud for a workstation at your desk. It is actually even annoying to sit close to this thing and you will hear the workstation well even meters away. Most of the plastic stuff inside the chassis vibrates happily with the two front fans. It is not possible to customize the cooling from BIOS.
I know this video is BEYOND OLD. With that said, I have a thing for order equipment. One of these is going in my rack as soon as I find one another bare bones system on ebay.
I'm pretty sure that these will have an optional SAS controller, as well as any other industry applicable storage solution like its workstation and ThinkServer predecessors.
Lenovo should start working on its customer service. No matter how good products are, I am staying away from Lenovo due to its unacceptable service. If don't believe it, you are welcome to experience. Once ThinkPad fan I was, I will never buy a Lenovo product unless Lenovo changes regarding customer service soon. When my laptop malfunctioned, I took it to a Lenovo center. Lenovo took about a month to get it back to me. According to Lenovo, it it normal and customers should learn to understand services taking that long.
To say a workstation is a gameing pc on steriods is way wronge. Many gaming rigs out perform workstations. The price difference comes from the GPU and processors that are given in these workstations which derives from their reliability but not necessarily their power
Guys, this is really stupid to have this nice modular design, swap-able fans (3) and then having 2 fans hardwired to CPU coolers! When using air-duct you should really keep CPU coolers fan-less!
SHUT UP & TAKE MY MONEY, anything that is left. I want to verticaly mount this like a chimney, seems like the case design would suit that. But the front pannel would be on the bottom.
@@profix25lo With workstations and servers it's all about quality of components. Capacitors that last 20,000 hours rather than 4,000. Everything in the machine is like that. Hence the price difference between consumer grade hardware. I stopped buying cheap machines in ~2001. Even since then I buy secondhand workstations once they are 5 years old and out of support. That's why I'm looking at p900s now that they are 5 years old. Just bought a 12 core T5810 for 200 usd today. It'll run nicely for another 10 years.
@@thomassmith4999 You know that server grade motherboards are also available to the public. For that price i can build a workstation that is at least 20% faster and way more silent
Hey Lenovo my "gaming machine" is better than your your workstation or should I say "PC and so much more" or perhaps "Gaming machine on steroids" go install some more malware on your customers computers, at least you are good at doing that
It´s Bullshit !!!! the first Cpu-Cooler blows hot air into the 2nd Cpu-cooler and its runnig hotter. replace the cooler with someone that pulls air up not siteways. or replace the air-cooling with a water cooling
Optical drive is INCORRECTLY MOUNTED! Should be horizontal!
This looks so good!!! Oh and Hi Gavin, Kevin and Joe!! :)
Kevin & Kevin - your are the BEST!!! Love your videos soooo much!
Greetings from Vienna!! :)

Should of turn it on to see how loud it is!

i am curious why not have Lenovo ThinkServer TD350 instead of a workstation.
Looks like the old school Mac Pro a bit with the layout of the case.
Impressive. My S20 is getting a little long in the tooth. This looks like my next computer.

@@IlIlIlIlIllIllII New with AMD threadripper.if you have lots of $$$$$
Why does it have two Ethernet ports?
the Thinkstation p900 of me has a mistaked. 4 ports in front of not running
They can patent that? how do you patent an airflow design?..... that is ridiculous
WOW :D I, myself would buy it just for the rotating Logo :P !!!
Why are there no reviews of these!!!

I know who's not being named, hehe.
Art of Server called that the "Chamber of Air Coercion". Lots and lots of fans built into that baffle.
Sony had the idea to rotate the logo 14 years ago on the original ps2

no gaming PC from 2014/2015 would have two 18 core processors in it
I have 2 f P920 nice machines
camera man can't seem to focus.
Can it be water cool?
MtnMeme yes it could be water cooled

it's a nice workstation but that thing is too damn loud.. I mean sure dual xeons need cooling but still
oooooh... I want the BOX! :(
Kristina L. don't come in one like that it really upset me 😀
hp z840 is where they got the idea

beautiful system but the red accents on the outside messes it up. Not functional in the design.
I have 3 p-920 max out spec's I spended 100.000$ it's expensive stuff
Can i use this as a Gaming pc xD
waooo unbleaveable
Gimme!
DIY still beats this by miles
urgh.. no :)

Nice cabbage case .
No thank you,....I will stick with my HP Z-series Dual Xeon 12-core and 36-core workstations.....
+Alex4SiliconValley Or just build some sick workstation yourself, prebuild workstations are just bad in terms of performance and price.
i got a hp z840 like you i presume, only downside with it is the size of the case.

but you can get a z800 for 100 to 200 dollars usd for the price it is good
