Yes your spektrum radio will work still. The new esc will come with a coupon for a free castlelink USB programmer . You download a free program and tune it over your computer . Not sure about the telemetry the car doesn't have brake lights or a horn lol

I have a Arrma Big Rock and it is well known for taking a hell of a bashing with minimal to no casualties. How would you rate the bashability/durability of these cars with the mods you have? I’d love to bash the hell out of this car setup as you have it, but if I’m repairing it after every bash, I’ll steer clear.
780kv has way less power. Higher kv equals more speed. Plus the 2028 1100kv has a ton of torque and low end power. The stock motor is rated for 5 horsepower. The castle 1100kv makes 14-15hp
Hey Rckyota. Does your xlx2 have reverse WITH braking? I did a recalibration of esc yesterday and now I can't get the reverse with braking to work. Truck will go into reverse and when I go forward on throttle it IMMEDIATELY goes forward instead of braking first. Thats not good for the drivetrain. I ended up disabling reverse until I can figure out whats wrong. It was working before for almost a year now until I did the recalibration yesterday.
If you go forwards and hit reverse it should brake . Not instantly go into reverse. But if you are reverse and squeeze the throttle to go forward it will instantly go forwards. There is no brake when you are backing up and need to go forwards normally . To fix the car from Instnatly going to reverse while moving forwards make sure you have no reverse the throttle input on your remote, haven't switched motor a and c motor wires around and lastly you may need to change the motor direction under the motor tab in castle link then reverse the input on your remote . Sounds like you have something switched around.
@@RCKYOTA Oh ok. I have braking when driving forward when I push the trigger forward. I just don't have braking when im driving in reverse. But from what you say there is no braking for reverse. Well thats a relief because i thought something was wrong with my esc. I know my XMaxx with the stock esc has braking for both forward and reverse, thought the xlx2 would have it also. Thanks for your help.
Greetings ...brand new to this hobby and this is my first purchase. Questions for ya: 1). the Hitec servo spacers where would I find those and what size would I use? 2) you mentioned an 18t gear upgrade and a 52 spur, where would I find the spur? 3). You mentioned that you run the new motor with smart sense, what is that and where do I get it? Thanks for considering my questions looking forward to your future vids.
Thanks for watching! Yes, the spacers I got at home depot in the hardware section I'm not sure what the actual length is. I have to go get some screws today ill see if I can find that out. It was the only size they had if I remember correctly. The pinion you should upgrade to 18T leave the stock 50 tooth spur on there. Sorry I get w bit nervous filming myself new too it and don't speak clear always . So yea just grab the pinion gear and leave the spur alone. The motor comes with the xlx2 if you buy it as a combo. The new castle esc are sensored motors and when you run them they use a program called smart sense this allows the car to start in sensored mode so its buttery smooth at low speed and rpm them once you get flying down the road it switches to non sensored mode automatically as this is much more effective for the motor to make power at high rpm hope this helps you can get the motor and esc at amainhobbies or castlecrestions directly
@@RCKYOTA I've started working on those upgrades....how critical is it to use the dgi tire extenders? When I installed the first one on the right rear, I noticed play in the wheel that was not there with the stock mounted tires, so I put the stock mounts back on with the new tires, and that play disappeared.. Is the extra play I noticed normal? I installed the Badland tires using the stock mount and the play is not there. Your thoughts please. Also is there a video showing the procedure to install the 18t pinion gear? Is it as simple as a mechanical change out , are there any settings to change etc? Just asking because when you are a newbie things often are not always as simple as ya might think.
Love the video and rig! You inspired me to get one and I’m doing a complete build upgrading it with all the recommended upgrades right out of the box. What length DGI hub extenders did you go with? They offer a 1” and 2” option and wasn’t sure which to go with.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it. this is why I make the videos! Get more people into it . I'd go with the one inch extenders if you can. There is an American company on ebay called leading edge machine that is making them now too..they are making a website as well its just not done yet .
Oh ya night and day better. I dont ever want to run a sensorless setup again. They stutter and run like crap at low rpm. On a race track when you slow down in corners this could slow you down quite a bit .
@blueknight most of them especially the Kevin Talbot video is user error. Right in the paper work it says 150 plus amp plugs are required and 200 amp are recommended. He used 120amp ec5 with a 3200 kv D wind tp motor and free revved the piss out of it..prob sent 900 amps through it. In my experience if you use the right connectors, high quality batteries and have a competent soldering job you will have Zero issues. We have the xlx2 in our dbxl, 5iveB and xmaxx. Zero issues .
Stock motor would be fine . It's low kv 780 and should make good power. Not quite as much power as a castle 800 or 1100 but def more than stock with the xlx2. You wouldn't get the benefits of running In sensor mode tho which is very nice. But if you can only upgrade 1 or that other I would s Do esc first, run it with stock motor until you can upgrade to a castle motor.
Sorry it's an older FID motor mount . You can get them herewww.ebay.com/itm/265795875240?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Hd30QE9KRqu&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=eyKLgjRDQtq&var=565583834094&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hello Shawn, great video you’ve built a beast and upgraded in the best areas. I’ve ordered pretty much everything you’ve mentioned too. Just wondering does the xlx2 need an esc mounting plate, or can the stock one be modified to suit? And is that castle dual fan able to be powered through the receiver or does it have to have its own power source?
Thanks Ben! , so I re used the stock esc plate I just drilled some holes in it to match the mounting holes on the bottom of the esc . But you can buy this www.xtremercracing.com/Products_By_Brand/XTREME_RACING_TEAM_LOSI_DBXL-E_2.0_CARBON_FIBER_CENTER_DIFF_BRACE_w__ESC_MOUNT_(4mm)/10892 For a cleaner look. I'd recommend the 1100kv over the 800kv if you can its much more powerful on 8s . The castle dual fan can be powered off the reciver but I run mine with upgraded server fans a they draw a fair amount of current. I have a small 1400mah 4s lipo mounted between the motor and reciver box to power the fans
Good morning! How has the XLX2 been holding up for you? I'm about to order a XLX2 for my DBXL-E 2.0 but now I'm reading about faulty ESC's and cases of blowing up :( thanks for your reply
We have 4 xlx2 now all have been without issue. They had a small batch back in December that had some problems but have fixed that since then and I haven't seen any new reports of trouble since then
Yea you do if you want them to fit in to the bottom.. Otherwise you have to force them In there. The cells are full of acid and chemcials you can damage them very easily .
@@SIRICKO post a video of you doing it grantee you are smashing it in there. I have 2 of these dbxle and 4 sets of the 9700mah smc they don't fit in either lmao
Hey , sorry but it looks like DGI discontinued them. They machine work was too expensive. Im sorry man. They still make the v1s. A bunch of other companies make v1 style as well. Hope that helps.
Yea way underpowered with the stock esc. The stock motor you could run , with a max5 or castle, or flier and it would be alot better over stock, But for the full upgrade I'd do both motor and esc. Escpecially if you want to go sensored. Running in sensored mode is super nice 👌
@@RCKYOTA would be awesome if spektrum released their version of the max5 cause I believe the spektrum versions are lil better cause of the software updates and adjustments you can make to the esc that hobbywing doesn't allow

Going through your videos as I am looking to convert my DBXL to an E 2.0....Trying to figure out if I should go 800 or 1100kv, I have been reading that the 1100kv in grass has issues overheating with tall gearing. Have any thoughts or recommendations on this? I want good speed but also plenty of torque to get throw it around, thanks!
1100kv has a ton of low end power. It makes more power than the 800kv on the logs. I see 8-9hp with the 800, 14-16 with the 1100kv. Tall grass is the bane of brushless rc. It def makes the motor run hotter than any other terrain. If you run in grass alot I wouldn't go higher than 15,16T pinion and 50T spur
@@RCKYOTA alrighty, so would you say 1100kv would be best geared lower w/ fans for grassy terrain? I only have parks to run at around my area w/ anywhere between freshly cut to 4-5 inches tall. Thanks for commenting, appreciate you!
Does about 70 with 18/50. 75 ish with 18/48 I was running 18/ 48 for a bit but it ran too hot for constant use 18/50 is perfect tho with some good motor fans. We tested out 23/48 and that were able to do 80 mph
@@mgate01 I tried it with brakes and didn't see much of a heat increase, if any.. The castle escs have amazing motor brake. Guess it's a trade off. Extra weight on the car with more servos and parts equals faster draining battery's as well.
Stock is fine . You want some tire spin up front. It keeps it from flipping backwards and helps the car stay straight. I know people like to lock the center diff but I have no idea why. It's way more harsh on the running gear.

I want to be able to use the auxiliary channels to turn on and off the light bar, add front and rear brake lights, horns/megaphone...etc. I'm sure there are ways to do that even if the spectrum system will no longer be functional but just asking to get your input! Thanks again looking forward.
Yes your spektrum radio will work still. The new esc will come with a coupon for a free castlelink USB programmer . You download a free program and tune it over your computer . Not sure about the telemetry the car doesn't have brake lights or a horn lol
@@RCKYOTA okay super fantastic! Oh by the way, the car may not have brake lights or a megaphone but I do and plan to install install them on the buggy. I'll post one day hopefully ..lol 😆 Thanks once again you guys are great ...glad to be joining the family!
What a nice RC car. I have already subscribed to you
Thank you !
The battery you're using for your motor fan, do you just have it Velcroed down? I want to do the same thing with my fans
Yes I made a little plate with slots for velcro straps
I was curious what spacers did you use for mounting the servo.
I got them from home depot in the hardware section. Just some metal spaces . Maybe 1/4" in length
I am interested in purchasing the same model D-845WP for my Losi DBXL-E, Whats strange there are 2, One with a Black wheel which is the one you have and one with a white wheel, But the model with the white wheel most of the housing is black but its the same model numbers, Do you know the difference between the both?
The one with black on the sides and curved is the old one they don't sell it anymore whatever one you buy they will ship you the one I have.
@@RCKYOTA Thanks bro, I actually got the same motel but i can't find the Castle fan or shroud anywhere, Do you think these 2 will work for that motor?

I have a question is a Losi 18T Pinion Gear the same quality as a GDS racing Pinion gear or a Hot racing Pinion Gear?
Yep . They are all the same ish
@@RCKYOTA Ok thanks bro, Is there a big difference between a 17 or 18T pinion gear?
Is it possible to just get a list of all the things you have on this!!! Just bought one, will be here Monday, and thought It was pretty badass and tough stock. After watching this Im 2nd guessing lol!
I put a list with all the links innthe description. Haha for me it just wasn't fast enough stock but the first thing I'd do for a stock one is upgrade the pinion gear
Why am 1100kv motor when a 780kv is already installed?
Thanks for your help.
excellent video,
Thanks !
Does anyone have a link to motor fan for a stock dbxle 2.0? Just purchased one want to drive it some before upgrading it this much.
@@jamesshippIII I'd still run them a little play is fine you could shim the hub area if it causes an issue
Awesome! Thanks I’ll have to check them out.
What servo horn do you use on that servo?
Stock one on the 2.0 is fine but you need some shorter servo links .
What kind of motor? Castle 2028 1100kv?
Yes
What mip tool stand is that?
Mod racing
Sensored was better than going sensorless?
Oh ya night and day better. I dont ever want to run a sensorless setup again. They stutter and run like crap at low rpm. On a race track when you slow down in corners this could slow you down quite a bit .
When you changed out the esc and motor, did you loose AVC? AVC really helps keeping it straight on high speed runs.
Yea you loose that. I kept it disabled from day one on mine..makes the car react weird and very high speed
@@RCKYOTA I've seen a few video where the xlx2 is catching fire, what's your thoughts on this?
@blueknight most of them especially the Kevin Talbot video is user error. Right in the paper work it says 150 plus amp plugs are required and 200 amp are recommended. He used 120amp ec5 with a 3200 kv D wind tp motor and free revved the piss out of it..prob sent 900 amps through it. In my experience if you use the right connectors, high quality batteries and have a competent soldering job you will have Zero issues. We have the xlx2 in our dbxl, 5iveB and xmaxx. Zero issues .
@@RCKYOTA Thank you. How do you think the stock spektrum motor would handle the xlx2? I also plan on getting the smc 9700mah 120c 4s batteries.
Stock motor would be fine . It's low kv 780 and should make good power. Not quite as much power as a castle 800 or 1100 but def more than stock with the xlx2. You wouldn't get the benefits of running In sensor mode tho which is very nice. But if you can only upgrade 1 or that other I would s
Do esc first, run it with stock motor until you can upgrade to a castle motor.
Thank you
Great video! you totally didn't link the motor mount though. 😎

@@RCKYOTA thanks bro 😎 👍
Hello Shawn, great video you’ve built a beast and upgraded in the best areas. I’ve ordered pretty much everything you’ve mentioned too. Just wondering does the xlx2 need an esc mounting plate, or can the stock one be modified to suit?
And is that castle dual fan able to be powered through the receiver or does it have to have its own power source?
Thanks Ben! , so I re used the stock esc plate I just drilled some holes in it to match the mounting holes on the bottom of the esc . But you can buy this www.xtremercracing.com/Products_By_Brand/XTREME_RACING_TEAM_LOSI_DBXL-E_2.0_CARBON_FIBER_CENTER_DIFF_BRACE_w__ESC_MOUNT_(4mm)/10892
For a cleaner look.
Thankyou Shawn your a wealth of knowledge on the dbxl. Appreciate your advice.
I have been having horrible luck with my ride. First time out broke a steering rod, second time out steering servo grenaded
Ahh man that sucks sorry to hear. The stock servo is pretty bad you will be happy with the hitech if you upgrade
Good morning! How has the XLX2 been holding up for you? I'm about to order a XLX2 for my DBXL-E 2.0 but now I'm reading about faulty ESC's and cases of blowing up :( thanks for your reply
We have 4 xlx2 now all have been without issue. They had a small batch back in December that had some problems but have fixed that since then and I haven't seen any new reports of trouble since then
How did u get the batteries to fit in tray...?
At 730 in the video I talk about it , cut the ends off cleaned up with tray
What hestsink is that
That's just sa castle dual fan shroud . No heat sink on this one
You do not need to mod you battery trays to fit these batteries.
Yea you do if you want them to fit in to the bottom.. Otherwise you have to force them In there. The cells are full of acid and chemcials you can damage them very easily .
@@RCKYOTA I have the same damn batteries no you don't!
@@SIRICKO post a video of you doing it grantee you are smashing it in there. I have 2 of these dbxle and 4 sets of the 9700mah smc they don't fit in either lmao

Note 20 Ultra, when I record the car running or fpv tho I use a hero 8

Yes, you can. It bolts right to it
@@RCKYOTA thanks!
Cool cool
Do u have to put the wheel hub extension to run the badlands
You can run them without but they might rub the wing a bit
Do those fans plug into the receiver?
No , I run them off small lipo
the link for the DGI V2 wheel extenders doesn't work can you give me a new link
Hey , sorry but it looks like DGI discontinued them. They machine work was too expensive. Im sorry man. They still make the v1s. A bunch of other companies make v1 style as well. Hope that helps.
@@RCKYOTA ok thanks for letting me know can you give me the link for the v1 i am new to this so if you could that would be great.
Would I be better off building from scratch an just buy the upgraded parts ?
Look for a roller . Building from scratch would be expensive .
I had the same setup and notice the pinion sits 2mm off the end of the motor shaft in order to line up with the spur. Do you have that issue?
Hey sorry just saw this. As long as you line the gear up with the spur gear you will be fine. I think mine hands off just a tad
Does your 1100KV, XLX2
with the 18 tooth go into thermal really quick?
No, hardly ever. What terrain are you running in?tall grass will heat it up the most. I set my motor cutoff to 175f
@@RCKYOTA I'm using the 18 tooth with a HW 1100kv and The stock Firma ESC. That's most likely my problem. LOL
And I'm running it on the street.
@@smrdmr1 oh yea.. thats 100% your problem . The firma struggles with the 780kv on 18T. Slap a xlx2 or max in there a d you will be fine
Are you having heat issues with the 1100kv motor in this heavy buggy compared to the 800kv?
Nope runs great. Buggy is 28.1 pounds. Xlx2 system is rated for 40 to 45 pounds. I have motor fans
Just saw your video I tried the link for the springs again. I couldn’t find it thanks
Are you in the dbxl owners group on Facebook?
Its strange they come with a 800kv motor and basically a max6
Yea way underpowered with the stock esc. The stock motor you could run , with a max5 or castle, or flier and it would be alot better over stock, But for the full upgrade I'd do both motor and esc. Escpecially if you want to go sensored. Running in sensored mode is super nice 👌
@@RCKYOTA would be awesome if spektrum released their version of the max5 cause I believe the spektrum versions are lil better cause of the software updates and adjustments you can make to the esc that hobbywing doesn't allow
Did you upgrade your bearings? If so what did you use?
No , i seem to have gotten lucky with this car . All bearings are stock .
@@RCKYOTA Wow I'm impressed! My rear dif went out like the 5th run. 😳 nice set up on your rig though man definitely goals!
@@chrisvillanueva1974 hmm when you hit jumps let off the throttle before landing if you can this puts a ton of wear and tear on the drivetrain if you keep the throttle down when landing

That's awesome ! Yea man people are shocked at how fast you can get these things to go. For a 5th scale it scoots like a 10th scale
How fast you going
Yea low geared 1100kv would be great either way I think.
Just got mine and I haven't even ran it. I literally want to do exactly what you did to yours ☝️. Are you in California?
Yessir , sorry I missed your comment
What gearing are you using? How fast is this setup?
Does about 70 with 18/50. 75 ish with 18/48 I was running 18/ 48 for a bit but it ran too hot for constant use 18/50 is perfect tho with some good motor fans. We tested out 23/48 and that were able to do 80 mph
Can the mechanical brakes work with that center diff mount?
Yes , but the mechanical brake isn't needed for most modern esc.
@@RCKYOTA it is if you want longer run time, less heat in the motor and esc front/rear bias and all around easier on the equipment.
@@mgate01 I tried it with brakes and didn't see much of a heat increase, if any.. The castle escs have amazing motor brake. Guess it's a trade off. Extra weight on the car with more servos and parts equals faster draining battery's as well.
What weight diff fluid do you recommend for front, center and rear? (On a fully stock 2.0)
Stock is fine . You want some tire spin up front. It keeps it from flipping backwards and helps the car stay straight. I know people like to lock the center diff but I have no idea why. It's way more harsh on the running gear.
@@RCKYOTA Thanks! Makes perfect sence!
My xlx2 esc cuts out when I instantly go to full throttle from stop. It works fine if I ease into the throttle though. Any suggestions?
Set your start power to low. What batteries, gearing and motor ? Dbxl?
