Sharon had major success in Australia in the late 70’s to late 80’s ….with songs like the formentioned Maxine, … and others such as How do you talk to Boys, Words, Losing You, Maybe.
My Top 3 Sharon songs are in that list you gave .. "Losing You" and "Maybe" are my very faves, with "Words" a close 3rd .. But she had heaps of others I liked a lot, including "Waiting For You" , "For All The Tea In China', and "Danger" .. Great singer / songwriter !
@@CraigAlden-ld9ey No problem .. If you like Sharon's music and want to increase your knowledge of her work, a compilation album of hers is definitely worth having a listen to .. She has lots of good tracks to check out .. Cheers, Wayne
Never heard this before but Chris nailed it when he said she sounds like Sheena Easton. I am surprised never heard this lady sing more. She sounds like she has an amazing voice and should have achieved a lot of success like Sheena Easton did. I think I only heard her in one song, which I think was called Maxine and on the radio around 1980ish. I think she is a New Zealander.
Thank you for doing this one. This song reminds me of the many Asian countries I've visited over the years. Gillian would like to see Eurogliders - We Will Together (1986) (Uncut Original Version ). Cheers, Hayley
Didn't expect anyone to cover Sharon O'Neill! One of New Zealand's biggest women singers - and songwriters - of the early 1980s, from Nelson at the top of the South Island. This song's a bit of a slow burner - a lot of people don't quite get into it first time. "Words" is a song of hers that's well worth reaction to.
The majority of the clip was shot at some Asian natatorium. I've been to a few of these rooms during my travels through Asia. What can I say? I relate to this as an Antipodean that's holidayed in many Asian regions during the past 35 years. She was probably in heat when she wrote this song, but good on her! Honesty's the best policy. 'Losing You' is another ''meh!'' song by Shazza in the 80's. She's sexy, funny and pissed-off in the video and the 80's production by her late husband, Alan Mansfield, and his crew at New York's Power Station, gives Shazza a big international sound. Worth it! Check it out!
I'm a big fan. Always was so. You've recently reacted to Dragon. Sharon very recently lost her husband who was the keyboard player for Dragon. Power musicians all round.
Hmm.. I didn't know Sharon O'Neil is two years older than me. I always thought of her as a young songbird from New Zealand. I had an experience similar to what Ms O'Neill's describing. It was on one of my trips to Thailand many moons ago.
This is such a nice very unique song. There is a longer version of this song available, but C & C didn't know about it. Oh well, it doesn't matter, at least the main part of the song is there. I've got 2 of her albums. "Foreign Affairs" is a very good one, with Maxine and Losing You. etc. on it. The film clip of Maxine actually shows my model of classic Monaro in it. Pity it's driven by Thugs.
lol.. Shazza sexing it up a couple of years before she meeting Maxine. She didn't go back to this after her ode to a street walker became her biggest hit. Nice song..
There's two types of experiences Aussies and Kiwis have when in an Asian region. The drunken bogan experience with 20 somethings in Bali is option one. Option two is the spellbinding beauty offered in midsummer by places in Langkawi, Malaysia; Palawan, Philippines; Phi Phi Islands, Thailand and so on. It's sort of typical for Aussies and Kiwis to meet in these regions and have a few discreet one night stands. I think this song is about being with the familiar stranger in an unfamiliar place.
SO GOOD to see you being more kindly to our Shazza... She was still fairly new when she did this, even though she had been performing since the 60's! 😵💫Def. do ''Losing you''.. Don't expect a masterpiece.. Just melodrama 80's style
I slightly beg to differ .. For me, "Losing You" is indeed a masterpiece .. Not a complicated song, but as a piece of pure pop music it's simply perfect to my ears ..
