I know I posted this before but we playing this song when my son (24) was dying from cancer. The words of thirst and growing old hit us hard but the song somehow makes me think of Heaven. For me Sweet Thing is my boy who will never grow old like me and you.
Spent years going to school in PA and passed through Allentown many times traveling to and from my home in NJ. Now my son, who grew up in CA, is returning to PA where I learned so much. Going to make this video one of my favorites, Ed. I'll listen to it and think of my son and yours. As well as you and Monica.
Ed Olearczyk Hi,you should enjoy the waterboys version of sweetvthing plus Saints and angels, live on the late late show..and also have a listen to their song "you in the sky"..best wishes
That's so sweet Rochelle, I am sure it is so. Edward was o outgoing and funny. He made friends very easily and loved life. It is so very sad for us both. God bless you and your family. We just had his stone blessed on All Souls. We recalled Christ's promise of everlasting life.
Hurts my heart toward the end. I have loved this song so much for so long and have listened to this rendition many, many times before, but here in February of 2023 it still blows me away.
enjoy !!! listening !! Jay Berliner is sitting in the back and nearly not to be seen but he was in the team of 'astral weeks' decades ago .... the duet with him is a 'sweet thing' to enjoy ... 🎼

My husband died 17 years ago. We fell in love listening to Van. It's the best love heartfelt music. I will always remember listening to Van with my husband
The best song ever. It is my wedding song. My wife and I always love to listen to this song. The Waterboys covered it many years ago, great version to. But nothing tops Van Morrison and his artistry.

I have enjoyed Van Morrison for years now. I do happen to be Irish and still love an Irish guy. I love him dearly. We danced on his hardwood floors of his beautiful house by the Preserve in Chattanooga.
A classic, I've seen Van many times over the years, never sung a song the same way twice, ignores requests (unless he's in the mood) beautifully unpredictable, and always a memorable gig, its what live music is all about. Glad the live gigs are hopefully coming back this summer.

This show used to be on TH-cam in its entirety, not each song separately. One night I wanted to listen to Astral Weeks CD and couldn't find it so I looked on TH-cam and watched this whole show - Astral Weeks live!!! I was totally blown away by how great a show this is...have since purchased the CD from Amazon, but DVD of it is unavailable and resale it costs a small fortune. Wish the whole show was still available on YT...just not the same watching it all chopped up. So happy I got to see it before it was removed! The crowd was freaking out it was so incredible! Can't imagine how amazing it must have been for those lucky enough to be present...WOW!
astral weeks I bought when I was a student (decades ago) I often danced to the music (vinyl) in pure happiness van is vantastic, playing and singing in hollywood bowl Jay Berliner on guitar had been member of the original band ..... vantastic ......

@@vanmorrison4516 If you really are Van Morrison, which would be incredible, God bless you, I love you! You were the last "live" music I saw in person before this tragedy began (at Jazz Fest). It is the only time I ever saw you "live" although you've been one of my favorites for many decades, so I suppose it was a good bookend to hundreds of concerts I attended over many years. If you are not really Van Morrison, I still love you and wish you all the best! I still believe, as President Trump says, the best is yet to come!
What a wonderful energy this song has! I heard it for the first time, it was orchestrated, in a movie, a few years ago, and I felt a great joy, when I heard Van Morrison singing. Amazing! Thank you for giving us moments of pleasure and joy. Congratulations to the musicians for the beautiful performance! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤❤❤
one of the musicians is Jay Berliner who took part in original 'astral weeks' seems as if Sir Van starts a duet with him ... before playing the harp - as a duet ... enjoy .....
GENIUS!! Van Morrison rarely plays the same song, the same way, TWICE!! That is what makes him an artist. It isn't just about the lyrics, its about the whole "creation" and how it takes you away. There is a reason he has been around for 40 years, and he is still selling out shows. I dare you to find another artist who can do what he does, without being HIGH, at almost 70 years old.
I agree. I think it's a viola (I play viola). Too big to be a violin. But a viola is a fiddle after all. My fantasy is to play with Van, and play as well as that guy!
any of the people who criticise the style of this version know nothing about van morrison, the very joy of his live performances are the enhancements, differences and variations to the song. perfect renditions of the album version is not what van fans want to here. his life stuff is so much better hence why people travel the world and pay fotunes to see the man
You speak for all Van fans ? I think not.....my opinion is that he is full of himself and decides when he is in the mood to give his fans their money's worth. I've seen him many times and he was terrible at least half those times . I would rather listen to his studio recordings....he's lost my respect.
Seriously he never plays it the same way twice. He’s a true artist and he could never just go around like some circus performer just playing to amuse you.

All Van fans know the history of Astral Weeks. For more than 40 years I have listened but never truly understood. I find that the most powerful reason for acclaiming the album as one of the very best ever compiled. If you want a literal understanding of this art, then I believe you are to remain forever unsatisfied and dissatisfied. Darren's reflections as a non-fan show Van's true greatness: even those who don't like him can be profoundly moved by certain songs. As an anti-van friend of mine said to me nearly fourty years ago: I despise this strange mish-mash of blues, soul, jazz and country but I can't help being moved by it.

I sort of agree--if you already know the song, this version is fine. But part of what makes Astral Weeks so extraordinary is lyrical content. Every song is a gem, lyrically. So this version of sweet thing is lovely, but I miss the beautiful beautiful poetry of the words.

If you know the album by heart like you should because it is the best album of all time, then you know exactly what he is saying, and it's still understandable.
Its definitely up there in my opinion. The transcendental theme and stream of consciousness style lyrics put's it in the running. Veedon Fleece, Common One, and Astral Weeks all make for an out of this world listening experience
It is true. Greatest of all time. For Van haters maybe only top 3. But the album is genre defining, and only the greatest from the Beatles has any chance of following the Astral Weeks album on the chart.
I listened to this song over and over again in March of this year (2023), while walking around Copenhagen appreciating the song and life. It's magical!
HI Nothing like a melancholy genius, lilting and tilting and coaxing the elusive into our reality to scintillate our souls! Shalom to you in Christ Yeshua.
I have loved Van all my life (dare I say idolize? .... well, near enuff) ... and this is one of my absolutely top fav-o-rites, tho its hard to chose .... brilliant, superb, trance'n'dental ..... !!!!

That's the beauty of Van (The Man)...his music/song/tone is amazing one doesn't need to "know" the words...its HEARTFELT (However if the words mean much to you...[an this can be important]...just go online and get the lyrics]). This is his style/signature/magic of music! peace
Sweet Thing and Caravan, my two favorite songs, been to lots of Van's gigs, sometimes he plays em, sometimes he don't. Unpredictable? Yep, thats why we love him!
If you read all of the comments you will get the sense of our deep personal connection with Van. Some say he is a musician's musician. I am no musician but he has raptured me since THEM.
This is my favorite song. My heart just beats so fast, and at the same time I get the best peace throughout my whole body. I would sing this to my babies when I would rock them to sleep.
Sublime. Junta de a dos versos de la version original, y los convierte en uno solo, pero igual le sobra tiempo para prolongar y repetir palabras. Hace sonar su voz y la armónica a la vez .... y todo para hacer esta obra maestra. Me emociona cada vez que la escucho
My beautiful husband Carl, passed on in 1997. I am still devastated., of what was or could have been. He played guitar beautifully and we played together. I haven't played my guitar since he passed at 45 years old, and I won't ever again. But Sweet Thing was his favorite of all...I played it at his funeral. I still can't get over it..
Linda Sing to Your Love, My Lady. It is in you , your fear that he may leave you entirely if you sing this song ?. Sing to him , he will still be there in your heart , Always.. Imagine Carl singing with You , he wants to hear you sing it. The Most Magical Moment !
How can one human have this much talent? Stevie Wonder and Van the Man have been creating incredible beauty via their artistry for like 7 decades??? Insane and wonderful.❤🎉😢

Feeling the same....but just old!!!....YES!!!!
It’s like he isn’t even trying.
This is a beautiful way of describing what this song gives to people
Magical - it doesn't get any better than this; who cares if it is unintelligible - the mood and the tune carry it all...
Can’t understand what Dylan says either but he has been doing it forever
The mighty Van ,it’s all about the music , he never sings the same song twice
🤣 we all know what he is saying. But it is impressive that the quality of his voice is still good
It just adds to the majestic wonderment of the music….I loved this man and his music for 45 years …who needs to know the lyrics anyway …

I mean, a song is traditionally meant to be equal part music and poetry
+Lisa Honaker Exactly , his voice is an instrument and his phrasing and enunciation will change to whatever feels right in the moment
I sort of agree--if you already know the song, this version is fine. But part of what makes Astral Weeks so extraordinary is lyrical content. Every song is a gem, lyrically. So this version of sweet thing is lovely, but I miss the beautiful beautiful poetry of the words.
best song ever hear it more then 50 times astral weeks Thanks Mr. Morrison love you god bless you
I’ve really never watched Van Morrison live and I see how committed he is to his song. That’s why his music is so beautiful. “🦆”
Don't be surprised ok, it's true I don't usually do this. But the pandemic has really tore everything apart leaving lots of people depressed and sad. That's why am pasting my personal email address here via: vanmorrison0012@gmail.com to enable you share your opinions about my songs or send personal message you wish to share with me. I can't still appreciate everyone of you enough for the unconditional love and massive supports ❤️ it's because of you am here today. I hope you won't stop listening and supporting my songs.
Thanks once more and remember to stay safe ❤️
Every time I'm smashed by this one - bothe the studio version and this live one. OMG, up to this triangle, so playful. So jazzy
If you know the album by heart like you should because it is the best album of all time, then you know exactly what he is saying, and it's still understandable.
Yep!! thinking the same thing
Bill Brasky "Best"?? Of all time??? hahaha
Its definitely up there in my opinion. The transcendental theme and stream of consciousness style lyrics put's it in the running. Veedon Fleece, Common One, and Astral Weeks all make for an out of this world listening experience
Great session musicians don't make up for the uninspired melody and "mouth full of crap" singing.
It is true. Greatest of all time. For Van haters maybe only top 3. But the album is genre defining, and only the greatest from the Beatles has any chance of following the Astral Weeks album on the chart.
One of the most beautiful pieces of music of all time. So simple and yet so complex. An absolute genius. X
VM is a national treasure.
international treasure!
You can say that again Grimey
Suppose people from more than one country can say that 🤷🏽♀️
Beautiful as always. Van you are indeed The Man!!
Raising my glass to Mr Van Morrison.....it doesn't get any better than VAN!
16 years old drove up to Great American music hall in San Francisco.. been going to his concerts ever since!!))
Legend
I listened to this song over and over again in March of this year (2023), while walking around Copenhagen appreciating the song and life. It's magical!
HI
Nothing like a melancholy genius, lilting and tilting and coaxing the elusive into our reality to scintillate our souls! Shalom to you in Christ Yeshua.
Best version ever. Rock on
I have loved Van all my life (dare I say idolize? .... well, near enuff) ... and this is one of my absolutely top fav-o-rites, tho its hard to chose .... brilliant, superb, trance'n'dental ..... !!!!

Hello @Ana O. Galdós
@@christopheranderson601 ciao Christipher! 🙋♀️🥰😍😘
I'm totally diggin' this. It's even better than the original studio track.
The musicians are fantastic, always come back 👌
That's the beauty of Van (The Man)...his music/song/tone is amazing one doesn't need to "know" the words...its HEARTFELT (However if the words mean much to you...[an this can be important]...just go online and get the lyrics]). This is his style/signature/magic of music! peace
Sweet Thing and Caravan, my two favorite songs, been to lots of Van's gigs, sometimes he plays em, sometimes he don't. Unpredictable? Yep, thats why we love him!
was at msg for this final masterpiece. Sat in awe for 2.5 hours. magic
If you read all of the comments you will get the sense of our deep personal connection with Van. Some say he is a musician's musician. I am no musician but he has raptured me since THEM.
never ever delete this song
This is my favorite song. My heart just beats so fast, and at the same time I get the best peace throughout my whole body. I would sing this to my babies when I would rock them to sleep.
My favorite Van Morrison song ever.
Sugar Baby , Sweet Thang, Van 2015 remastered, not allowed to comment. Favorite
he's not mumbling...he's become the song itself....folding in swinging in swinging out around and out sweet thing his breadth....
he gets it
exactly....
awsome analogy. .I think your right. .
exactly right ,stated perfectly
And with him his musicians gathered on stage :))
Fantastic version, what awsome musicians!
I ❤ Van Morrison, I listen to ur music every blasted day, and I never get bored of it.
Listening to Van is like slipping into a velvet glove in winter. You wanna just stay there and escape the problems of this screwed up world.
Genius music, so original
No words but- amazing!💖
GAD! Pray I get to see This Man before he dies!!! How many times he has sung aloud the very breath of my heart & soul!!! God Bless you VM 7X77!
Astoundingly gorgeous every-time!
Magnificent performance, fantastic artist! Give me the chills.....
One of my favorite songs.. I repeat it all of the time. Heck, the whole album is amazing. Van Morrison is one of my favorite musicians!

Pure class , all of them !
Van the man ...... my favourite song.
I love the moment when van takes the golden harmonica.
wonderful ....
...👍a duet with Jay Berliner ....
the only one, who took part in original 'astral weeks'
Magical! Accept no substitute... We are blessed to still have him around...
This is genius, what an artist
How can one human have this much talent? Stevie Wonder and Van the Man have been creating incredible beauty via their artistry for like 7 decades??? Insane and wonderful.❤🎉😢
Love this more every time I listen! Musical genius!
