Absolutely splendid! A fast approach that's never rushed, with a perfect balance between violence and tenderness. Herr Eckardstein truly understands Medtner from the very depths of his soul!
@@marcellomarianetti1770 Right from that first chord. He hammers that and it sets such a tone. He also brings out every scrap of melody. Hamelin was my go-to until I heard Eckardstein...
@@KenBreadbox Truee, as you say the voicing is what strikes me every time, he manages to mark every single theme, which Medtner entwined so interestingly. If you studied composition you HAVE to love it!!
I love his playing so much that I feel guilty that Medtner does not do anything for me... Anyway suum cuique... But I long for the days of his concerts in Amsterdam with Rzewski and Messiaen, simply unforgettable!
@@itchy2345 Yes, it was indeed! The atmosphere in the hall was electric as most people were not familiar with the work and Severin hammered the keyboard like possessed by the devil. It remains unforgettable!
Too bad the Meesterpianisten series is no longer there. Heard Severin for four times there and every recital was just phenomenal! The atmosphere in the great hall was sth I will never forget. Also heard this Medtner in 2010. Highest form of piano playing, I think!
@@veli-mattijutila1267 Nearly 25 years of Meesterpianisten and I totally agree, it is really bad that it stopped. But, things change and I guess there will be something similar soon, if it already isn´t there...

This pianist is amazing 🎉
Perfect. Most performers take this too fast. von Eckardstein also has by far the best Night Wind.
Agreed, I can't get enough of his Night Wind

I think I listened to that live performance of Rzewski on radio broadcast long time ago - was it Winnsboro Cotton Mills Blues? It sounded fantastic!
