Railfanning Fullerton - 8/16/15

Well after many months of waiting and consideration, I finally decided to make my way out to the infamous Fullerton station and see if I can get in on some of the action many people say about this station. As they stated, I was certainly not disappointed on this early Sunday morning and even got some neat catches within only about three hours of being here. Although there is a very abundant amount of homeless people in and around the station, this location is still pretty interesting in terms of action and what comes rolling through. Very interesting architecture here with the station structure and surrounding buildings as well.
Train 1 : Amtrak 562 with F59PHI #464 & CabCar #6901. Earliest Amtrak service of the day as the sun begins to rise just to the east.
Train 2 : BNSF S-HOULAC3-15A with ES44DC #7219, C44-9W #4538, #5430(DPU), & ES44DC #7487(DPU). THERE'S GOING TO BE A THREE WAY MEET !!!
Train 3 : BNSF Q-LACCHI5-16A with ES44DC #7391, ES44C4 #7147, C44-9W #5182, & #4598. This train will wait at Fullerton until Amtrak 3 pulls into Fullerton where it will continue east to San Bernardino.
Train 4 : Amtrak 3 (Southwest Chief) with P42DC #10, #154, & F59PHI #455. Nice blast of the horn for departure. F59PHI #455 was heading back from Beech Grove but it appears that the locomotive was being used as power since it wasn't dead in tow.
Train 5 : BNSF Z-STLLAC9-15A with ES44C4 #8011, ES44AC #1310(CitiRail), & C44-9W #4893. This train eventually stopped just north of Buena Park to get clearance to proceed northward into Los Angeles.
Train 6 : Amtrak 564 with F59PHI #450 & CabCar #6903.
Train 7 : Amtrak 763 with CabCar #6905 & F59PHI #453.
Train 8 : Metrolink #751 with CabCar #638 & F59PHI #886. As seen and heard in the video, Metrolink #751 ended up stopping at Fullerton for approximately fifteen minutes until they finally resolved the problem and cleared the tracks.
Train 9 : BNSF Q-LACALT5-16A with ES44DC #7916, ES44C4 #6870, #6607, #6660, #6763(DPU), & ES44DC #7302(DPU). This train was certainly a massive one !
Train 10 : Amtrak 566 with F59PHI #462 & CabCar #6908. Awesome crew with the engineer blasting the horn for departure and a very nice conductor as well !
Train 11 : Amtrak 565 with NPCU #90230 & P42DC #188. Talk about this train sneaking up on me ! Nice engineer on #90230 !
Train 12 : Metrolink #660 with MP36PH-3C #897 & CabCar #659. Tried out a different vantage point, this time from above.
Train 13 : Metrolink #661 with CabCar #688 & MP36PH-3C #899. This train came in just as Metrolink #660 rounded the corner ! The engineer certainly came into the station very hot and certainly throttled up to notch eight before departing !

This has got to be one of THE VERY BEST railfanning sites in the U.S., certainly comparable to Downers Grove, IL, on the BNSF Raceway SW of Chicago. Great video -- many thanks!

+Alexander Banos Yes sir. As a matter of fact, those two lines are my next priorities. I plan to film at every station along that line soon and I should definitely have all of them done within a year.

+SoCal Railfan Thanks ! I got my current camcorder back last December but I've been considering upgrading once again to a Sony 4K. I haven't been Railfanning recently as you can see but I'll be back soon.

+brentnguyen46 ah yes, either the Sony FDR-AX33 or AX100, good cameras. I like the AX33 better because it's more simple and still have great quality. I'm considering the Panasonic HC-VX870 4K for the future, just depends.

TROLLEYFAN 2052 For this particular video, I used the Sony HDR-CX240. However, for all my new videos, I use the Sony FDR-AX33.
