Right after the Vietnam War ended, I found helmets with writing on the helmet covers. One had the names of all the landing zones the previous owner was at.
Back in the day we used G.I. window cleaner (Windex), to wet the cover down on the helmet and form it to the helmet. One note on graffiti on the camo covers, they were a DX item in Unit Supply. If your supply sergeant was an ass he might refer you to the 1SG for some sh*t burning detail if you some FTA crap on it. After you finished you could go DX your cover. lol!
Thanks for showing me how to do this I only have a repro helmet which is not really accurate but if I ever do get a real m1 this will really, really helped out a lot. By the way love ya content
If you are talking about the headband, I just bought a nos one on ebay. It was in a multiple item listing so there might still be more. They were all dated 72 or 73
@@againsthell1908 Ah, I see. Thanks. Would you happen to know an alternative to shaping a helmet? I've got everything but the cover and would like to know how to do it right once I've got it.

These videos are getting better and better (and nerdier and nerdier…) but still great video steel!!
Normally with the older and more used covers you don’t have to wet them since they been in helmets before.
Yep, I bought a original Mitchell and it fits perfectly
As long as you pull it in the sides

Pretty helpful. May be posting a video on my channel soon. Nothing Vietnam related (yet).
Wow. Works good molded my repro Mitchel cover to the m1 helmet better.
Just got my second pot so this is nice to see, we need more marine impressions
I have my grandpas helmet an cover but I had to get a repro liner to finish it
Go get a original they are better and it will be better than a repro honor the granpa and make it perfect
Where did you get your head strap at if you don't mind me asking. I've got an old helmet and would like to restore the band

Ebay, estate sales, FB marketplace, antique stores, etc.
Don't do this with original stuff people
