3:58 Winter: "SCVs no changes" Patch: "Workers no longer need to wait for full deceleration before beginning to attack" - It's a buff to worker pulls like in Game 1 since they can micro a bit better now
@@colts8146 Maru doesn't make terran look broken, Maru makes Maru look broken. Its a subtle but important distinction. Byun breaks the game by highlighting a unit and abusing it in a way it was never meant to be used, showing us all what's possible with perfect micro. Its possible to replicate, just insanely hard, and once other players catch on they need to patch it. Maru does things that looks completely impossible from anyone not named Maru. You can't patch Maru because if anyone else tries to do what Maru does, they lose horribly. Maru just gets away with his ridiculousness because he's Maru. This is why he's called the fourth race.
Terran doesn't need any help looking broken. I get they're sort of "balanced" at high elo, but they have the best starting unit, they have the best early-midgame harrass, they have the best turtle, and if you miss them moving across the map and let those siege tanks siege up on you, you just die because good LUCK getting to them with the units that counter them, like immortals, or vipers which are SUPER late game. with all those stimmed marines between. widow mines kill an entire mineral line in .5 seconds if you don't look at your mini for 2 seconds and they can be medivac'd in, it takes like 4-5 oracles to do THAT much damage that quickly, which costs like 7 times as much and takes 4 times longer, let alone being further down the tech tree. and good luck getting a bane drop in. They have have hard counters to EVERYTHING, and some units like the ghost, that basically counter an entire race. seriously, 3 ghost emps and mass marine will decimate most toss armies because you effectively take half their health in .2 seconds, they have to run or die and stimmed marine are faster. where's my toss or zerg unit that's good against an entire other race? there isn't one. thors counter all zerg air. vikings counter all toss air. carriers (which are a gross unit unto themselves) are countered by mass marine, in fact all toss air is bad vs mass marine, the most expensive army in sc is beaten by 200 gas for stim and combat shield and a bunch of minerals.... :| I hate terran man. it boils down to them being way more versatile and yet hyper specialized at the same time with units that are waaaay too cost efficient. they feel like blizzards favorite race and IT SHOWS.
@@deathknightrevan banelings and lings are worse. They do way too much damage and are too fast to react to. On top of that lings are very cheap yet extremely effective for their cost. One thor that gets taken over by zerg has so much value its not even funny. On top of that zerg is impossible to kill early unless they blunder heavily as they take no eco damage. Just spam cheap queens and if ur worker is about to die turn it into a building then cancel it. Also why the hell does a lurker get to have invisibility, more health, splash damage while having the same range if not a bit more than a ghost? It really makes no sense with how fast they are off creep and on creep and dont even get me started on the burrow and unburrow speed. This is why zerg has won the most tournaments for the past 8 years in SC2
Game 2, I love that Byun was just genuinely hoping that Dark WASN'T completely all in, and that he was going to try and macro out of his deficit... and the moment he realizes that Dark is continuing, and that Byun had no army to fight with, he instantly tapped out lol. A vicious back and forth, 2 games down in 12 minutes.
I’m very new to pro SC2, and I really appreciate the insights, micro/macro, and buff/nerf insights you provide. It makes it so much more interesting. Perfect mix between match commentary and meta commentary. And yes you did make my day better, I’ve had the flu and this has helped me get my mind off of it. I’ll go watch some more of your vids too!
I love that these two players are back and playing against one another again. The first ever pro SC2 game I watched was Dark vs Byun 2016 world finals and having them back is so great to see them back
In game 1, it looked like Byun pulled just enough SCVs so that he could maintain marine production. His minerals basically stayed around 300-350 the entire time after he pulled, then around 100 after he started a factory and some more SCVs.
It turns out it's psychological. It mostly (only?) happens in offline tournaments, most of the time in GSL. This has been discussed in GSL several times. In offline tournaments there is a possibility for this to happen if the webcam is turned on, that's why there are many offline tournaments with just Byun's picture. There was even a tournament where he turned on his webcam for the semis, and asked that he turn it off for the finals so it wouldn't affect his gameplay. I think Maru has the wrist injury connected to mechanics. Byun is more psychological that turns physical. Something like unconscious pressure in his hands while in offline competitions.
That first game was taking advantage of the worker buffs, and since pull the boys is a favorite of Terran, rushes like that are so much more powerful. Also, mech buffs are huge. The true lategame Terran army that Maru popularized (mech + ghost) is probably at it's strongest in the next patch. Terran always whining they're weak even though marine medivac can win 99% of games. Proof is Byun.
I've heard a lot about how the Snipe change will let Zerg easily avoid it - is that actually true? I'm looking at e.g. 39:47 where it looks to me like Dark pulls back the instant the snipes come through, and they still go off?
13 range is still a *lot* of range, so units need to move more than that. Snipes were never dodgeable at all before, so it'll take time before players get instinctively used to trying to pull back enough against them. For now, you'll probably see it most accidentally when armies are jockeying around and the terran tries to land a couple of snipes.
Byun comes back from the Korean military: Solution- If there is a problem throw enough marines at it until its no longer a problem As a Korean I can confirmed he learned well.
Wooooooow. Wtf was that first game. Dark returned the favor immediately. Byuns been god mode lately though. But Dark is every great players kryptonite because he plays so weird. Dark is a zerg who thinks hes a terran. Byun was always good but its like he just discovered Adderall or something lately. Want to see him vs Maru now. Excited for the new patch!
@@AntiDoctor-cx2jd Too few army to hold that at all - losing the barracks out front meant there was not enough production to try to stall and let the worker lead pull its weight.
@@AntiDoctor-cx2jd Against roach-ravager. marines alone don't cut it, the ravagers will just pick off marines and siege down bunkers with superior range and speed. Once stim+medivacs are out, then they put up a better fight, but either tanks to zone them out or concussive marauders to catch up+match range is the early option. Seems to me at the top level, tanks is the clear preferred option, and I guess we see why - but Byun is Byun I suppose XD
@@AntiDoctor-cx2jd At the top level, doesn't cut it. Zerg gives up eco to go ravagers, so the safe terran play is to turtle+eco up and wait for countering tech - tanks, marauders+concussive, stim, medivacs etc. On the other hand, if zerg ecos, the terran needs to attack to force production from droning - such is how zerg works with the production flexibility of larvae. But yes, ravagers *are* very strong early on, which is why the ravager rush is a zerg staple even at the very top level. Heck, at lower pro leagues, a well-executed ravager rush is some players go-to build in the matchup...
will we see ravens helping out with clearing creep instead of using scans? feel like their decreased cost and build time make them worth it for the detection alone
The problem with ravens in tvz is adding more load with them. Ghosts already create lot of load and it's very hard to utilize Ravens in tvz anyway when every single zerg unit and building is bio. Scans come pretty cheap actually for what they do and they don't need extra micro to use them and besides, it's a lot more versatile than trying to micro ravens onto creep and risk getting it killed by air or queens. Ravens have been getting a bit more play in tvp tho
Finally, was tired of non zerg in tournaments, we should have nothing but zerg. Zergcraft 2 should be the name of the game. And what kind of idiot thought it was smart to give terrans counter to instant tech switches of zerg, or counter to broodlords suported by 1000 supply in mobile defence, or counter to lurkers. They should buff the queen a little.
He truly is looking to be in peak form. He's always been ridiculously talented, but he was suffering from the Clem effect- relying too much on his micro. Obviously they aren't the same. Byun is more flexible with his opening and more than willing to cheese, but I always put them in a similar category. As of late though Byun has really rounded him game out. Just wish he'd SCV scout more as he loses too many games from not knowing what's coming.

Byun has achieved way more success and has always been more willing to throw some all-ins into the mix, where as Clem seems very rigid in his openings and has hit a wall in terms of progression. So I feel calling it the Clem effect is better.
Wasn't the reasoning for the increased ravager build time to make it harder to morph hurt roaches in the middle of fights and have them spawn with full HP before the eggs could be killed so easily? That was my thought at least, ravager all-ins wasn't really an issue was it?
