I sorta like the upside-down sarcophagus suspended above the kitchen island. But I'm pretty sure it would make me gloomy after it was occupied. Assuming it isn't already occupied with some random stranger. You might want to check on that.
Linus, make the lan room happen. Make a shelf above the monitors just wide enough to support the towers, that way the desk only has to be deep enough for a monitor and keyboard. Much more efficient use of space
The ceiling coffin in the kitchen looks like a good place for some nice speakers (ceiling speakers too 90's?) or some other tech that I don't know of or worry about. Perhaps rather than a desk pc, it could be a ceiling coffin pc!
Utilize the area above for a tv however use a Mantle Mount which pulls down for normal viewing. If you want it to look like art ass well buy a Samsung frame. Tv's above the fireplace are only terrible if it is stationary
One thing that you could do that would be very cool is a House Tech Upgrade series. I don’t know what Internet wiring is or anything about it - but my house also doesn’t have any Ethernet ports. The internet and Ethernet bit would definitely make a good guide video.
LINUS (in his head) - Wow, a new place to drill, wire, hack and ruin all the walls, pillars, ceiling from scratch. Yayyyyyy exciting... More content for new videos
about the TV over the fireplace, its a common US thing isnt it? The german Indoor Fire Places i had, had been very hot above them so a tv could be damaged
If you live somewhere without a better spot on the wall a fireplace TV can be good. You just need to aim it down and have reclining furniture. Kind of like that angled gaming setup in your kids old room. As long as you're looking straight on at the TV the orientation compared to the ground doesn't matter as much. But people who just flat mount them are heathens. They make tilting mounts for a reason people
Is it bad that I actually really like Linus' new house? Nostalgia!!! I get the issues with not being able to place a modern TV anywhere that's not over the fireplace or that mess downstairs with cables everywhere, but it just has a lovely warm feeling to it. Congrats on the new place!
Just moved to a higher end neighborhood and i'm running into the same issue with the artwork thing! I have never thought about purchasing artwork until now
super interested in how you are solving the ethernet issue. We have the same problem in our new home and opted to use a next wifi solution for the meantime. Also in Vancouver, Shaw laughed at us when we asked them to install ethernet.
Oh god, the style is nice and all, but with geometry that complex those crevices are gonna start to be a pain to clean real quick. My parents' house has pretty much all cabinet doors with some decal details and my mom just wishes she had gone for flat panels everywhere. The time we waste cleaning each cabinet door is painful.
without knowing exactly how big the house is and what contractors/material costs are like in canada (im from Aus, dollerydoos and CAD are not to far off), $100K seems atleast $40k over priced. My uncle was a roofer for years, I worked with him a bit, he did some crazy big houses and smaller houses that required a lot of small detail work (think heritage listed, convict built estates where everything was custom made and stainless steel) and he never had a job close to that.
Eeeh not really. 100k cad to usd is about 80k. The roof alone on a house the size of that one is probably going to be 20-25 alone, and considering an "average" house needs about 25k worth of solar to even attempt being 100% self sufficient, I could see it getting close to 80k. it's probably a little bit of an exaggeration but not as much as you'd think
Fire side chats w/unboxing. But in all seriousness, congrats on the new place. Kinda shocked you waited this long but respect for keeping it practical.
We had a neighbor with a goofy front balcony put on by the previous owner. They used it to keep an eye on the kids playing out front while relaxing with a book
Even for the time, that interior is so traditional.. Like a living room with couches facing each other and next to a fireplace, instead of facing a TV? I'm pretty sure the 80's had already given up on that style. But with all the technology surrounding us everywhere these days, it might be on the way back. Someone literally said the roof needs to be redone after he said he's not going to show pictures of the exterior. So the chance he's moving cause he was doxxed. Is so unlikely. And if that were the case he already needs to sell the new place.
I sorta like the upside-down sarcophagus suspended above the kitchen island. But I'm pretty sure it would make me gloomy after it was occupied. Assuming it isn't already occupied with some random stranger. You might want to check on that.
PLEASE!!! make an entire series of "making my house as high tech as possible" videos!!!!!
NoobMaster: It's so obvious you don't have servants
Me: You've got 3 kids dontchya
That is what I said to my wife.
Utilize the area above for a tv however use a Mantle Mount which pulls down for normal viewing. If you want it to look like art ass well buy a Samsung frame. Tv's above the fireplace are only terrible if it is stationary
So in Greater Vancouver, that's around $5M
One thing that you could do that would be very cool is a House Tech Upgrade series. I don’t know what Internet wiring is or anything about it - but my house also doesn’t have any Ethernet ports. The internet and Ethernet bit would definitely make a good guide video.
Would especially love a vlog on getting the networking put in around the house. Might just motivate me to get mine started.
You deserve every bit of it and more Linus. You have taught me so much over the years
LINUS (in his head) - Wow, a new place to drill, wire, hack and ruin all the walls, pillars, ceiling from scratch. Yayyyyyy exciting... More content for new videos
about the TV over the fireplace, its a common US thing isnt it?
The german Indoor Fire Places i had, had been very hot above them so a tv could be damaged
4:20 Please put an actual CRT in that CRT spot connected to some old school consoles. You could even get a BVM for it!
CRT are basically a time bomb now. They are so old and likely to blow. I don't think anyone even makes bnew CRT TV's
@@edwardelric717 There are dedicated collectors / repairers that use them for retro gaming.

Finally going to live his life as a CEO.
They make tilting mounts for a reason people
I would put an electronic photo frame above the fireplace
Is it bad that I actually really like Linus' new house? Nostalgia!!!
I get the issues with not being able to place a modern TV anywhere that's not over the fireplace or that mess downstairs with cables everywhere, but it just has a lovely warm feeling to it.
Congrats on the new place!
I'm really excited to have an entire series dedicated to Linus redoing his house
Just moved to a higher end neighborhood and i'm running into the same issue with the artwork thing! I have never thought about purchasing artwork until now
"it doesnt have a furnace" *Shows Furnace*
GUT IT ALLL PLEASE
Sand and refinish the floors
Etc ! !!
super interested in how you are solving the ethernet issue.
The Tesla powerwall 2 is available in Canada.
I've had one for about a year in the UK. It's awesome. Worth the expense.
Looking forward to the vlogs. Congratulations to you and your family.
Put a giant mirror above the fireplace. It looks good (I have one myself) and it gives the illusion of more space.
without knowing exactly how big the house is and what contractors/material costs are like in canada (im from Aus, dollerydoos and CAD are not to far off), $100K seems atleast $40k over priced.
My uncle was a roofer for years, I worked with him a bit, he did some crazy big houses and smaller houses that required a lot of small detail work (think heritage listed, convict built estates where everything was custom made and stainless steel) and he never had a job close to that.
Linus you're making me jealous. Such a cool house! I can't wait to see the touches you add.
This is why your wife is really smile on your video for the last months. A new house make her smile !
Great videos about your Porsche and new house! So relatable !
How does a Tech Podcast not use OBS or know how to share a screen?
Now we get to see all of the videos Linus made for his old house for this one starting with the 9 part series of just network wiring.
"Re-doing the roof is gonna be like 100 grand"
Dude, what the hell. That's insane even with solar
Eeeh not really. 100k cad to usd is about 80k. The roof alone on a house the size of that one is probably going to be 20-25 alone, and considering an "average" house needs about 25k worth of solar to even attempt being 100% self sufficient, I could see it getting close to 80k. it's probably a little bit of an exaggeration but not as much as you'd think
you def need to frame and mount a super scope 6 above the fireplace
A whole-home wiring video would be fun
2 hot water tanks could be a staging hot water tank with no heater. That can happen with geothermal
He should put TVs above the fire places where the art is in the photos. It's a very common place to put TVs.
Fire side chats w/unboxing. But in all seriousness, congrats on the new place. Kinda shocked you waited this long but respect for keeping it practical.
1:40 The perfect place for one of those "picture TVs".
Put the Linus meme face there. It deserves to be framed and bordered.
You could put your play buttons in the art display
I want to see an acrylic painting of that goofy linus face over the fireplace. Just unsettle guests sitting in the living room.
Can we just watch Brian the electrician crawl around to install the network stuff while Linus sits out on a lawn chair chilling
we ALL KNOW what he "could" hang over the fireplace...
that picture is on pretty much every desktop at his workplace :D
We had a neighbor with a goofy front balcony put on by the previous owner. They used it to keep an eye on the kids playing out front while relaxing with a book
change your anode rods in the water heaters
Even for the time, that interior is so traditional.. Like a living room with couches facing each other and next to a fireplace, instead of facing a TV? I'm pretty sure the 80's had already given up on that style. But with all the technology surrounding us everywhere these days, it might be on the way back.
I suppose it would be sacrilegious to suggest having a tech-free zone in Linus' house, though 😅
The big picture frame thing with the light you can take one big photo of the linus tech team and put it there...
so... when do we get a video of Dennis falling down from this house's ceiling? 😂
