    ABOUT THIS VIDEO ::
    This is an introduction to my Voron Trident based Tool changer built completely out of 3d printed parts, not requiring any metal milled parts. The build features 6 tools and features an ingenious clamping mechanism that has excellent repeatability. The basic concept is based on the voron woodpecker toolchanger by Ziib and MrBean on the voron discord- but has extensive changes from my side to enhance reliability, repeatability, rigid tool docking and good wire loom and ptfe management.

    I love how a dude working on his own in India has built a better more sophisticated tool changer and faster than Prusa ;)

    Congratulations! This is the BEST tool changer that I have seen from the open-source community.
    I am in the process of building my 5th printer, this time a Voron derivative. I have in mind to build it as an IDEX, but I would much rather work on getting a tool changer incorporated.
    I am pretty handy with Fusion 360 for CAD, and would be very happy to help you document your project, while at the same time beta-testing the system.
    I am retired and semi-disabled, so I have lots and lots of time on my hands.

      Thanks much - really appreciate kind offer. I will definitely open the design to beta very soon and would love your help to convert the tinkercad design into a proper 3d model. Just need to work out the final few kinks - the last couple of items left are a reliable purge and priming system on the tools between toolchanges, and state awareness for error recovery and retries / user interventions in case of errors. Working on both this week.

    Looks awesome and seems to work well - you've got a good handle on a lot of the practical issues (packaging, reliability, and more). Really like the servo-off functionality, which I haven't seen before.

    Thanks for sharing and making this open source. Very, very impressive. It would be great if you can do a summary video that discusses the "electrical" and programming portion of the build. What mother board did you use that supports all of these extruders? Than you very much.

      its handled in the tool change sequence via klipper gcode.

      I am using a version of this klipper module and its related config - github.com/TypQxQ/Klipper_ToolChanger. I have added another module for error detection - i will be sharing my config with the build files once the project is ready for release.

    I was having some similar ideas but haven't even started...congrats on doing so well! I'm stuck in tinkercad as well and was thinking I had to learn a real cad before attempting something like this. impressive! you can share your tinkercad links... wiper - I was thinking of a silicone wiping edge that tilted out of the way when the tool is put away but springs up so new tools are wiped as they move out; all mechanical no servos. gasket silicone can be molded into the shape easily (print a mold, soak in soap water.) each change would have a little extrusion to deal with any minor oozing before grabbing.

      Yes - it will be open source - the files will be released soon as soon as the rebuild is completed and verified.

  • @ericthecyclist

    Its absolutely beautiful! Prusa must be feeling somewhat pinched as the open source community is quickly catching up to their not yet shipping XL system, while the chinese companies have viable MK3S imitations.
    Could you provide a URL for the discussion of the tool locking mechanism? All the others I've seen were rotary.
    I'm curious that there is no upper bar across the top to brace things there. The system looks like a cube with one edge missing. Is it simply removed to facilatate a better view for the camera?

    • @ankurv2k8
      @ankurv2k8  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup - the bar up top has been temporarily removed for camera purposes. The original locking mechanism was discussed in the Voron Toolchanger discord - discord.gg/Vw3ezV5A

    • @ankurv2k8

    If you used an electromagnet to provide the locking force instead of an always on magnet, you could reduce the needed force back down quite significantly.

    • @ankurv2k8
      @ankurv2k8  ปีที่แล้ว

      if you are talking about using an electromagnet on the docks, they will need to stay always on to keep the wire looms in place. If you are talking about the carriage - and the actual tool lock - it uses a servo and not the magnets.

    • @ankurv2k8
      @ankurv2k8  ปีที่แล้ว

      all the tools have their specific x,y and z offsets that are loaded everytime a tool is changed. The xyz calibration is also automated across the 6 tools - please watch this for a demo - th-cam.com/users/videoppcTm3NfDo0
