In hindsight Japanese do had the Bushido, purely ruthless warrior class who matched Mongolian army discipline. But they were obsolete in weapons technology and War tactics compared to Mongolians. Much like most of Mongolian other adversaries. For example Mongolian curved horn bow is still superior to English long bow at the time, Japanese still had the wooden bow with no range or accuracy. Actually Chinese countered Mongolian unchallenged ranged warfare superiority by arming poorly trained numerically far superior peasants with crossbow. Ah history , a fine thing to contemplate. Remember all those people are already dead so its pointless to say which one of them better, instead its to learn from their pros and cons, that's all history is for.

About massbowmanship, the difference between Anglo-Saxon townspeople culture and Mongolian nomadic cultures is that you have to train every longbowman as well make the bow for them, in case of Mongolians every soldier is an elite archer to begin with, and they come with their own bows as well (as a hunter bow is essential for survival). As you pointed out that crossbow or wooden simple bow is better suited for peasant levies. About tactics, you cant swarm a nomadic horde its that simple , they would just ride away and attack when you settle and rest (check this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_invasion_of_Europe#Invasion_into_Central_Europe). Mongolians never had infantry, from the horseback they conquered and pillaged the world. Mongol General got killed and the mongols bailed. 2nd invasion was 120,000 mongols in 4,000 ships. Launching from China & South Korea. The bay had been reinforced so they opted for another location then got fucked by a super tsunami. Lost over a 1/3 of their army and called it off. It was all downhill for the Mongols from there.

I've heard two stories about the origin of the katana. 1. in 700 A.D. A black Smith presented the sword 2. The sword was created to kill Mongolians because the weapons the Japanese were using was useless against mongolian armour. I could look it up but instead could someone be so kind as to tell me when the sword came about?.
Theory that I know is that it has been made about 1000 A.D for the war against Emishi, people who inhabited in Eastern Japan and usually fought as a cavalry so it influenced Japanese also, to ride horse and use weapons on horseback. Unlike straight swords which japanese used before 1000 A.D, it became curved like modern katana because curved ones are better choice for using on horseback. And about 1300 A.D, after Emishi has been conquered and sword also required to be used even for the infantries, it became two handed and less curved(but still curved) than ones for cavalry, and it can be called as direct ancestor of modern katana.
Two theories which you suggested can be refuted. For the first, there is no antiquities of modern curved katana in 700 A.D. All of them were straight and one handed, derived from China. For second one, sword is usually a weapon that isn't effective against most armours, even katanas also - which cannot cut down japanese armour. Moreover, the invasion of Mongols wasn't long enough to make japanese weapons changed drastically. Invasion was longed less than an year, and none would change their weapons for incidents like this case. Japan was a land which experienced many types of war, but most of them were against same people; Japanese, and this was more important matters for most Japanese.
The armour is... of Joseon period tho... Not Mongol or Goryeo. Actually the body armour itself is the style that also Goryeo has used but that helmet and shield...XD.
actually the faction in the mod was originally the yuan khanate and yuan khanate had similar armor, weapons, and shields so its not wrong, as the mod was intended for the original start date 1570s not during this period being in the dlc rise of the samurai.
These aren't the same Mongols that actually conquered most of China, Persia and Russia, it's 40 years later and led by other people, so they're less experienced. Also the boats are made in China, RIP.

Theory that I know is that it has been made about 1000 A.D for the war against Emishi, people who inhabited in Eastern Japan and usually fought as a cavalry so it influenced Japanese also, to ride horse and use weapons on horseback. Unlike straight swords which japanese used before 1000 A.D, it became curved like modern katana because curved ones are better choice for using on horseback. And about 1300 A.D, after Emishi has been conquered and sword also required to be used even for the infantries, it became two handed and less curved(but still curved) than ones for cavalry, and it can be called as direct ancestor of modern katana.

Two theories which you suggested can be refuted. For the first, there is no antiquities of modern curved katana in 700 A.D. All of them were straight and one handed, derived from China. For second one, sword is usually a weapon that isn't effective against most armours, even katanas also - which cannot cut down japanese armour. Moreover, the invasion of Mongols wasn't long enough to make japanese weapons changed drastically. Invasion was longed less than an year, and none would change their weapons for incidents like this case. Japan was a land which experienced many types of war, but most of them were against same people; Japanese, and this was more important matters for most Japanese.

The armour is... of Joseon period tho... Not Mongol or Goryeo. Actually the body armour itself is the style that also Goryeo has used but that helmet and shield...XD.
actually the faction in the mod was originally the yuan khanate and yuan khanate had similar armor, weapons, and shields so its not wrong, as the mod was intended for the original start date 1570s not during this period being in the dlc rise of the samurai.
