Did my own curly haircut for the first time yesterday and my hair has never looked better, this is the first time I’ve liked my curls. The layers and method of styling make a huuuge difference.
I remember so vividly being like 14 years old, asking for layers, and the lady at the salon going, "oh no, i don't think you'll like layers on your thick hair." I looked like a TRIANGLE, Patricia!

My hair is not as curly as yours but I found that the best haircut for my hair is shag. I always wanted it but only recently found out its name. It's perfect!
Your hair looks great, but the problem I get is that curly stylists automatically seem to think this is the cut I want when it doesn’t suit everyone. The super short layers don’t flatter my face shape and the bottom layer of my hair won’t curl when it’s thinned out that much. I stopped going to curly specialists because they gave me some of the worst haircuts ever. If anyone else is having similar problems this might be why.
i asked for a butterfly cut bc i knew it would give me a lot more volume and dimension. sometimes i like to west my hair not curly so i wanted a haircut that would work for both.

I once went 9 months with no color, no blow drying, trying to get my hair longer. I decided to get a trim. Had no idea the woman wouldn’t know anything about curly hair. Her first cut was short and DEEP. It sprung up. She had to go get a different girl to finish it, and unfortunately we had to cut a bunch back off to blend in that chop.

I need a cut BADLY but having a terrible time finding someone reputable. The one I did take a chance on they were unprofessional so I bowed out of it. I know if I could just get my hair cut it would look SO much better than it does right now. I look like I I have a box on my head when my hair is done it's so frustrating.

@@EmiliaMendoza-yb8yu none really. I just cut it dry. Helps to shape it better. Just with a mirror and scissors

The problem I have with most hair stylists is as soon as I show them a picture of what I want they always say “you don’t have that kind of hair” and that gets me so frustrated because I know my hair is curly, (not as curly as yours though) and I know how my hair behaves and what I can achieve when I style it. So I’m always having to reply “I know, but can you cut it to that style anyway?!” And then I go home and I style it, and I’m fine. 😅
My hair is THICK and down to my butt crack. At the most I get 2 inches cut off because I've yet to find anyone who can actually cut curly hair.
Same. I've gone to the same stylist for 15 years. But when she didn't have any openings and my schedule didn't match hers... Absolute torture. I'd tell the stand in stylist that my hair will get coarse, sticky and curly once they wash it. Every time, they were surprised when it was wet. I've had so many try to comb out my wet hair with a regular fine tooth comb, just ripping at my head, or taking over an hour to comb it out. The frustration of being gaslit about my own hair and what kind of brush or comb to use 🥲🫣

Every stylist I've been to just wants to attack me with thinning scissors or do channel cutting to "remove the bulk" 😭

@@flyingmintbunny1286 Honestly I just kept trying. I kinda do like the wolf cut. You can find some good tutorials on TH-cam. I like Brad Mondo's. Just make sure to go slow. You can cut more hair of but it takes time to grow back
100%. Hairdressers are used to curls in my home country, but I had to resort to hair schools while I lived in the UK because hairdressers only knew how to do straight or coily hair, and at least in schools they were super receptive to any of my tips/instructions (stuff like: cut on wet, envision the cut but then do it 10-15cm below that to allow for shrinkage, layer layer layer drastically layer because I don't want to look like a bell, any bangs must be at least nosetip length, don't dry fully when finished, etc.)
I have let my hair grow out very long (I can tell when it's wet). I am so scared to cut it, but I would love a round cut. I can't find a soul to cut curls. Also, my hair is SO many levels of curls. My bangs are wavy to curly but the back of my head is tightly coiled! How on earth do we fix it??

Wow! Thank you for sharing. Lately haven't understood why my top layers are so flat, with almost no curls anymore while underneath is still curly as usual. Haven't gotten a cut in a while, now I'm excited to get one and see the difference!
LOL the first pixie-cut I ever got. My friend gave my other friend (who has straight hair) a pixie cut and it turned out amazing. So of course I wanted to try having one. The first time she ever cut my hair she ended up pretty much buzzing down the sides and back and leaving about 4 inches on the top. She just wasn't used to my curls and cowlick 😅 I went back and got another pixie cut from her and she did an amazing job now that she knows what she's dealing with ❤
Stylist here, please specifiy you want a round cut with uniform layers, round cut by itself means one length, and that is a blunt cut, the layers are a whole other technique we use.
I’ve been cutting my own for 6 years, never goi nag back. My hair is hip length so it can be tricky but i know my hair better than any stylist could. I’ve got that shit down to a science now
i got a pixie cut type of style, my hairdresser always ends up cutting it just a little too short, and it always ends up wayyyy too short when the curls come back, any advice for this?

Would this work if I have 2b-ish hair? It’s straight at the top, wavy in the middle, and I have ringlets at the bottom. I want to get a round cut and make my hair maybe shoulder length to get better and more prominent curls, but I don’t know if I would lose my curls or if this wouldn’t look right on meh

The weird thing is that i have grown out layers, but the short parts aren't that curly and the middle curls are barely curly. But the back curls, which are the longest, are perfect ringlet-spiral curls(sometimes they make a tunnel looking curl). Its confusing because since its that longest locks, it should be weighted down but for some reason its not.
Yes I was victimized. The part that was the worst is ive known her and been going to her for years. Not only did she not cut it for curly hair she didnt know how to style it. My curly hair journey just started almost a year ago, I have had straight hair for my whole life. The texture gradually started to change. I think a curly cut will help my curls.

Butterfly cut gives a similar effect I think. Then just trim of a few straggling ringlets.
Theyy be like oh you don't have to cut your curly hairs it will make your head looks bigger I don't know what stuff they just don't know how to cut your hair

I think your haircut would only work on thick hair, mine is so thin I would lose too much hair with a cut like that! Your hair is AMAZING!
When I started taking care of my curls I had just one layer of hair. Like just straight across cut and when I did care for curls it looked triangular lol

My curls were dead , I was trying to save them. No matter what I couldn’t, one day my hair really needed a cut but the person I went to had no appointments so my mom cut it ( she has kinda curly/ kinda wavy hair) all of a sudden my curls were back just a little , upgraded my products a bit and now their all good and I relized the person just couldn’t do curls so now I beg my mom to cut my hair
They don’t teach us how to cut curly hair in school. They just teach how to cut hair in general so you have to find that education on your own after. I’m some places it’s hard to find curly haired clients to even learn on. Long story short, it’s hard for us to learn specific techniques right away especially when we’re newer so cut a little slack ❤ I have curly hair but that doesn’t mean I know how to cut for every single curl type especially being a newer stylist. I’ve had to tell people that I don’t think I have the education and experience for their hair and that’s okay.
My hair is somewhat straight, long and thick and ive come across numerous stylists who didnt know how to cut it properly! I cant imagine what CURLY girls go through!
I’ve been victimized (over exaggerating) by a hairstylist that didn’t even know how to cut WAVY hair. He insisted that he HAD to flat iron my hair straight before cutting it. I had been keeping my hair away from heat for a long time (after frying it as a teen) and he destroyed all that progress. I don’t think he even used a heat protectant because my hair was visibly damaged after it.

I just recently realized that the front sections of my hair, in front of my ear, always look so good because I layer them when I do my bangs.

Yeah but no one wants a ball on their head. No one wants to look like a qtip. You are the exception not the rule. The haircut is called round layers or 90degree haircut but do not ask for it you will most likely hate it. If you ask for it its not your hairstylists fault if you hate it.
