You can see how Abed really sees the floor as lava (as he reveals later in the episode) by the fact that he is already sitting away from the floor from the first instance he appears on the episode.
God I didn’t even think about that. I realized he was already on the desk but I figured it was just easier than getting up on it mid-announcement 😭

Britta is right about them needing to process sadness, she realises that something is wrong with Abed immediately on hearing the announcement, she helps him through it AND she wins the game. Britta CRUSHES it this episode!

I agree that she was right about Abed, but she was wrong about the rest of the group. The only thing the rest of them were in denial of was allowing Britta to dictate their feelings by using them as a buffer in expressing her own.

As far as I'm concerned, this entire episode is Britta's finest moment on the entire show. She's usually wrong or exaggerates an issue immensely, but in this one, she called it out perfectly. Makes sense the group doesn't listen to her, though. Classic 'boy who cried wolf' syndrome. She's been too annoying and wrong about too many things by then for them to listen to her the one time she makes the most sense out of all of them.

I love the fact that even though the Dean knows that this will turn into a weird dystopia (he's seen it all before many times now), he still wants them to have this special goodbye
" I don't want us to waste our chance to acknowledge how we're going to miss you." - I know Britta is.....Britta, but that line is actually incredibly sweet. She wants herself and her friends to deal with such a hard thing like Troy leaving in an emotionally healthy way.
"Actually sweet" Why are you avting surprised? Almost always she is right when talkking about her friends psych and she always wants to help them.
This is one of the rare occasions where Britta actually made sense and didn't just ramble on about pointless activist propaganda. Unfortunately, by then, the group had gotten so used to hearing her drone on and on about such things, they automatically tune her out and stop listening to her.
She was right about the study group, and Abed in particular, needing to take Troy's departure seriously and to deal with it in healthy, mature way. I think it's nice that they allowed Britta to win this game, given that she showed the most understanding of what was really going to happen, while everyone else in the group chose to dive into escapism to avoid it.
Xylarxcode the joke isn’t that she spouts propaganda. Most of the time what she says is true. The joke is that she is one of those people that are informed and always complain but never do anything

I like detail that the first time we see Abed in this episode he's not touching the ground, showing that he's already playing the game.

Early series Jeff would have dismissed the game as childish and stupid at first. But here he climbed onto the table even before Abed announced the incentive. He really evolved as a better friend

This is the best Britta episode! Love it. This is also the best way for Troy to leave the show and honestly the series finale should have been something like this, something epic and explosive.

I think the series finale was really perfect for Community because it was about the characters, moving on and letting go. As much as Geothermal Escapism and any epic, explosive episodes are great, the heart and emotion the finale was able to achieve is unparalleled. I recommend watching it again, it's so beautiful and a perfect ending for a show that had so many obstacles.
I do agree that this was the best episode for Britta and the best way for Troy to leave the show. "The adults are here and we're going to tear down your fort. Chair walkers, ATTACK!"
Britta is amazing in this episode. The way she cares. I get teary-eyed just thinking about it.
If Greendale taught us anything, it's that games can escalate to epic proportions
We later find out that for Abed this isn't a game and the lava is real to him. And that shows cause even before he announced the game, from the very first moment we see him in this episode, he's on a table not touching the floor.
As always, great attention to detail in Community.
Well I think that's also because he's the one doing the countdown, so if he wasn't on the desk he'd lose automatically

@@jonathancampbell5231 No, he did the game so everyone else would feel how he does. So from his POV nobody else can see or is effected by the lava. And ofc he knows others also are sad Troy is leaving but it’s more intense for him.

As much as britta gets dumped on for being a buzzkill, especially with her bragging about her psych class, she did have an good and honest point there. Shame nobody listened when it mattered

I was too young when I watched this show the first time. Now that these clips are rolling, I somehow cannot remember how awesome every second of this show is. Gotta watch it again now, and should watch it again in 10 years with a (hopefully) more developed brain

That's not 'understanding people' it's 'understanding animals'.
He understands people as in motivations and how they think, he doesn't understand emotions
Abed is the king of predicting peoples' reactions. He understands exactly why people do what they do. He just knows he doesn't respond to things the same way and is baffled by that... but also grateful for it in a way.
In fairness he was there for the paintballing, even if he didn’t understand people he’s seen how to get greendale invested in something.
He claims it because its often true. This was season 5, and he’s learned a lot by then
It’s like anytime something like this comes around the school becomes something you would expect a school to become. You can see that in 1x23, the season 2 2-part finale, 5x05, 5x08, the season 6 paintball episode
