- The interstellar conglomerate known as the Accord has long considered humans to be a nuisance - primitive, loud, and prone to self-destruction. After repeated border violations, they decide to teach humanity a lesson. A small fleet descends on an outlying colony, expecting a quick and decisive victory to establish their dominance. Instead, they discover a species possessing an unyielding spirit forged in constant conflict. The Accord, believing themselves to be the apex of strategic warfare, focus on crippling human infrastructure. Yet, they find humans frighteningly adaptable. One man, veteran soldier Elias Kane, disappears into the wilderness, waging a brutal guerrilla campaign. Kane's campaign reveals to the Accord that humanity's true, horrifying potential lies in their resilience, ingenuity, and a primal instinct for survival under any circumstance.

What gets me here is that Humanity has several colony worlds, yet our tech base is what would be considered current.
That does not track.
And now generations later we are using welded together scraps of alien tech instead of having them integrated into home brewed systems?
Again, does not track.
Yeah... like the aerial bombardment problem solved by a few dudes with stolen mining tech.... like digging took out space faring invaders and colonised worlds.....seem to nonsensical AII stories seem to be flourish ing.... Modelled on the well spoken word salads of politicians. Sounds impressive.
Maybe it’s a backwater colony who just got set up or something
It's just this author's exploration . We decided to come along . Not the best We've encountered, but solid . He mis-selected some words along the way, but overall a decent effort, certainly better than _most_ of its sort .

Kinda works👍.
You don't have to be faster then the bear, just not be the slowest one being chased.
To be honest, that was the attitude me and one of my brothers had when growing up. Nevermind winning myself as long as the other didn't... Our younger sibling won a lot as a result.
It isn’t a story with personalities, it is a documentary.
Glub Shitto asked CSM Dr. Gordon Freeman how it felt during the war, to take the life of another.
"I wouldn't know. I've only ever killed xenos vermin." he replied, before the up sweeping tone of charging gauss-rifle capacitors.
i love these stories boosting my pride of being human lmao
Good to feel proud for being part of a superior species
isnt that the exact oppisite that this story is showing humans drive ourselves to extinction
This story is 100% exposition. Show rather than tell. There's a whole series in here but it would be better told in pieces in first person narratives. This is like a series summary rather than a work of it's own.
Exactly what I was thinking. Like ok when is it gonna start? I get it the universe is grotesque and brutal and endless but you gotta give me a POV at some point or no buss
This is more like a first-person "historical overview", giving plenty of themes that could be expanded on in individual short story anthologies and novels .
Tell rather than show.
Oh, oh! Another twist at the end! C.S. Lewis warned us of this in his book, "The Abolition of Man."
Let's see; we went from humans are space orcs, to something resembling 40K, to a brief visit of Lovecrafts' elder horrors, to galactic mind control, leaving raw nature in control, to a sort of "Oops! Never mind!" at the end! Yeah, you could expand this story into a whole series of novels. Not perfect, but with definite potential!👍
Indeed . I spotted a number of opportunities to populate this "universe" in short story anthologies and novels .
yeah it has potential for many stories to be told

So then humanity's dance partner species represent Abel in some strange children of Adam extended Bible story?
The war between humans and the Accord reminds me of the centuries-long conflict of the planet Melida/Daan in the Star Wars: Jedi Apprentice series. They had been fighting each other for so long that they dont remember why the planetary civil war broke out in the first place, just the countless battles of revenge that had taken place after.

This is a step up from the prevailing theory right now being: "Not only do I win, but, you lose and lose big"
Good point.
So the Council fucked around and found out, got Space Vietnamed, then the Reapers showed up and the gloves came off again. Then both sides became monsters fighting over tech scraps.
That's the most immersion breaking part where the author just started to sound like the Naruto plot of violence only birthing violence but in absence of the enemies of the war still remaining an Allie has fractured in multiple factions that war with each other and then the other allie sees that and decides my what a great idea .
It's like in a game where developers railroad you in a storyline.
Like in Hogwarts legacy where I was so over leveled that even on hard I finished the boss fight in 5 spells but somehow I just sat around while he killed my helper that betrayed him😅
>space vietnamed
lmfao
dont forget the part where they become The Warp.
I love that humanity actually is destroyed in this story.
44:13
Okay, I didn't see that twist.
Actually in the story humanity wasn't destroyed, it evolved. And some people today speak highly of man's eventual evolution as a good thing. I'm not so sure. Maybe other civilizations have existed before ours. And maybe that is a natural recycling to prevent unnatural evolution. Just a thought.
You might as well be sure, because Evolution is the *_inevitable consequence_* when Life gets disturbed. @@donaldbundy3499
Welcome to the Eye of Terror
Adapt....improvise.....overcome, not just survive. This story has a major flaw, humans are not just barbaric berserkers, we understand strategy and tactics, we don't just charge ahead in suicidal rage. This story misses a key factor in the human makeup, we will be free, we will have victory. The author misses the point that subjugated people learn how to survive, subjugation is not an option. I had to stop before the halfway point, the philosophical ramblings became so juvenile, so stupid that I have to believe this was written by an adolescent gamer with no critical thinking abilities. Hopefully this a 'one and done' attempt by this author.
humans to long exposed to war break. We are just lucky that we do not have the means for endless wars to make it an possibility (break enough humans that way). Should the point come we do (advances in production and reproduction) we are better armed to acknowledge that there is no utopia but that we have to move into that directions forever, that that the real war is inside us every day.
In my opinion ....you don't have to put down a person's creativity to make a point . You had some valid observations that could have been simply presented as opinion ....
Intellect born of Nature will be the same all over the Universe. It is tautological. So I agree. This story could be AI-derived, read by a human.
How many of these stories where written by School boys learning about early elements of their short history and then repeated into a Sci-Fi setting.
"the ultimate survival of a species lies not in the strength to fight, but in a wisdom to walk away"
you can NOT reduce every war to a single sentence.
the first war with the accord was survival of a group
communication and negotiations were possible
the war with the reavers was survival of everyone
there was no communication and negotiation possible
the second war with the accord was absurd
it was for dominance in the understanding that the other side would not want long lived peace, as the accord wanted after the first war
sure, you can argue that the first war was unavoidable
but the third war was more than avoidable.
in fact in my opinion it is absurd. they were more than capable of mutual communications and peace that lasted for decades
their military were the only people with power?
what was the point of the war if not the safety of the people back home?
was it a war just for war?
earth had centuries of war but also many nations learned to live in peace with former war enemies
it is nicely written, but at this point it became absurd to me.
Agreed. But all Art is worth a look.
The nature and themes of the story evolved wonderfully, just like it's protagonists. 👍
its
hammering that like button
The exterminatus part is direct ripped off from warhammer 40k
Great story and nicely narrated. So the pursuit of creativity, innovation, intellectual advancement and peace cannot survive without the presence of strength, resilience, persistence and self preservation. And the secret to maintain such a balance is to never forget a balance is imperative over self preservation. So is the pursuit of balance more important than self awareness and self preservation? Will absence of self awareness lead to the inability for self preservation? When the future holds no promises that another species or event will one day threaten your existence.
Im sorry, what doesnt kill you just makes you stronger, except for artillery, artillery will just kill you. If a species is space faring and has the resources for orbital bombardment of a planet, assaulting a fortified location with live feeds to those guns is a terrible idea, almost as bad as firing at a USA battleship with a mortar on a mountain, because when those 16" guns fire at that location there wont be any more mountains. The stupidity of the 13 minute mark and engaging orbital emplacements in melee, physically hurt to hear.
That rattled my cage too. However artillery doesn't kill you if you are far enough away from the impact/proximity triggering, maybe by decoy or other illusion..
This was a long, tiring, way of saying, We have met the enemy and it is us.
I heartily agree.
So if someone glasses earth a few platoons will win. must been a hike to The other human worlds with no space faring
After about first 20 mins I started wondering if this was the start of the Warhammer 40K universe... 😆
I do like series that really underscore human's greatest trait. Our stubbornness. I feel like adding a specific person to focus on undermines the overarching story. I'm always reminded of the sci-fi story that humans are merely the product of a bioweapon generator that has gone through several global extinction events... only for life to claw its way out of the grave, cackling with madness at death's latest attempt to claim it once and for all.
Humans greatest trait? Every lifeform shares it - otherwise it wouldn't be alive. True also of all matter, which is, after all, bound energy.
millennia of war ensues, Warp Gods " the fuck they up to out there"
So like the tower defense game "They are billions" but in reverse.
Warlords and empires alike have broken their back upon the subjugation of a people with everything to lose.

Do you have a proof listener or editor? I like the stories but I think you should give a listen to the entire story once over before putting it out. 8min in and there are already many mistakes (stutters, restarts, redo's)
I'm the narrator / edit the audio. Completely my fault, usually I procedurally review the audio as I record, and do a full listen at the end. Though due to the overall length, I rushed & made the mistake of not re-listeing in full length. A mistake I won't make again! Anyhow, I hope despite this, you enjoyed the story. :)
I'm glad you are the type of person to own up to a mistake if it happens. Thats something people don't seem to appreciate anymore. Loving the stories also. I don't know how I stumbled on fan sci fi stories but its my new pastime as of late. Keep up the good work@@MrMonster99
I am enjoying the stories. I am glad there are people still out there able to admit to a mistake versus just denying. Honesty isn't appreciated as much as it should be. I didn't mean to be rude so I hope you didn't take it that way. Nuance can be lost in text over the internet. Keep the stories coming!@@MrMonster99
Cool.@@MrMonster99
This is horribly recognizable as AI generated, with it's awful and almost unending repetitiveness, same metaphors, phrases, and even the story itself becomes numbingly repetitive. You can do better.
Maybe in another galaxy such a boringly recursive story may never occur - or reoccur. Don't bother me, because I have already read Asimov and vossed myself. I am not sorry, of course. 😎
PS I recommend a short story entitled *_"PROTT"._*
Yet again AI failing in a big way!! unable to speak properly, pronouncing words incorrectly. What a mess for its creator. You need to go back to school and improve your ability!!!
This was the opposite of HFY, it was an HFS. Also the fact that no humans decided to leave war behind and start a colony on some forgotten world is honestly confusing. The lack of reverse engineering and the misunderstanding of humanity’s history and dedication to disagreement with one another is disappointing. “Greed for reaver tech” my ass. Also a “logical” species deciding on blowing up cities as a policing action, and not being monsters is confusing. The end of the story being “fighting is wrong” like, come on. Its a fight for survival, the other option is dying. Survival does not mean turning yourself into an eldritch monstrosity, but that wouldnt lead to the “point” the author failed to make.
One of the worst hfys ive ever heard tbh, and i listened to one about a teenage highschool dragonoid making out with a human. War is bad, but at least understand why it happens.
Great story - but Confused... were not the humans - at the initial conflict - being described as barely able to get off planet? Yet after the raising of the planet - the story mentions 'human worlds' - as if man had somehow colonized many other solar systems. wtf?
There was absolutely no reason for the humans to aid the Accord and fight the Reavers when they could have demanded vast resources and technology from the Accord. That part made no sense.
This story is not HFY, don't get me wrong its not "bad" but it has nothing to do with HFY which is about humanity being awesome not causing their own extinction via biotechnology.
If my clap is audible in the comment I would do it now. Yesterday, I come across one of the cheapest stories I've ever listened to. Today, I came across one of the best stories. This story is a killer, salute.
dont fit your enemy, love them or youll invite evil gods to eat the universe. fear strength, fear striving for justice or for what is right, just sit and take it until space kills the evil people in some mysterious way. this isnt a story with a good moral of avoiding needless conflict, but of avoiding taking the nessisary actions and making hard choices to secure a lasting piece. it also takes the ideal of the unbreakable human spirit and bastardises it to mean fighting for the sake of fighting until both sides lose. this stories biggest problem is the lack of consistency. Humans are a multi planet species, but somehow the one planet that is attacked is abandoned by the rest of humanity, and then after a totally one sided conflict, decides the fate of humanity and turns both themselves and their enimies into hyper authoritarian states hell bent on the others downfall. bad righting at the start, horrible righting in the middle, then cosmic horror mixed with philosophical gibberish at the end. its clear to me that either the person who wrote this thought of a cool idea in the middle of writing and ham fisted it into the story over and over again until the story went from: dont mess with humans! to: fighting bad, but also good, but also dumb, but also nessisary, but also litterally satan in space.
I was expecting it to end with another entity arriving to a completely subdued system devoid of any defense or will to fight. What makes her think this is a reliable endgame when the entity that caused it was already from somewhere else.
Or it could have ended with them awakening a new colony of Reavers born from the assimilation of their tech.
My favorite part of stories like this is always the other aliens thinking “dear god, if this is what they do to protect themselves, what will they do to protect their friends?”
Has the lesson been learnt?????
Kane/Voss has a lesson???
One and the same!
Yes I know what is a myth/story is!!!

love ai generated stories "they thought the humans defenseless but they were wrong the humans had bad defences that were useless " lol what if a human wrote that they are a very special breed
Well how else did the humans just started attacking each other after they defeated the reevers, there was no built-up as in humans having even a fidget of conflict stated between the treaty with the accord and the reever attack.
It's like the plot of Naruto/Burrito , they just add stuff for the part of the story they are in to get what they want.
The parts after the treaty are just "now I want a story about how the humans from the previous text to .."
When humanity has its mind set on something, it will be done, after all we are an efficient species
In that sense, all Life is efficient.
