I think that’s a question for your daughter. See what the favorite is…but if she doesn’t know the table is coming even better. Just not black.

Great work!! Your design came out wonderfully. I've used a CNC router for a long time and only recently acquired a laser cutter & engraver. I use both, but the newness of the laser gives me excitement thinking about creative ways to use it. Your coffee table project is a great example of creative use of advanced tools. I'm sure your daughter will love the table no matter what finish you use. I personally would just use a clear-coat. Just a thought, try using down-cut end mills. They leave the top of the cut nice and clean and with the dust extraction you have in place, dust buildup in the cut shouldn't be a problem.
Nice work! Really enjoyed watching your process of using the digital fabrication equipment. We would make our own oil/varnish finish back in the day. If you haven't finished your table and still looking for suggestions, hands down, Emmets Good Stuff Wood Finish is the best finish available. Several coats, and you can build up a beautiful finish.

Genuinely lovely and wonderful. Perhaps finish the wood with boiled linseed oil or bees wax. That way the complexity of the mandala is contrasted by the understated finish of the rest.
That mandala is gorgeous! I'd just give it a satin clear coat and let the piece speak for itself. My go to is lacquer, but I know some folks don't like working with it.

@ I’m in the process of redoing my table and spoil board. After seeing yours and doing a little poking around, I am going to try 3/4” schedule 80 pvc. That way I can sand the inner diameter of some of it to fit as a bushing on my clamps. Probably have to epoxy them on.
@@johnalex3023 The PVC i used was .75" id and I ended up cutting the hole to. 78" to get them to fit without needing to pry them out, so 0.03" over. The reason being is that you're not going to get a perfectly machined diameter cut into MDF and I'm sure that the PVC isn't perfectly round, so those 2 inconsistencies equalled a larger than usual tolerance.
I don't sell very much stuff so I haven't really done the math on how much I might would charge, but I can tell you what I have invested in it... The acrylic sheet cost me $100, the ply totaled about $100, and the wood, other materials and hardware was just south of $100. So $300-ish dollars, and about 20 hours of work. I could probably shave a couple of hours off of that if I got a routine down. Not a definitive answer to your question, but I hope that it helps. Thank you for watching!

Just my $0.02, finish it with Danish Oil. The color would closely match the art inside the plexi. I love the look of it. How does the feel of the plexiglass stack up to the look of the table? I don't mean to criticize anything you've done here as it looks great, I was just wondering why you didn't use glass. Also, thank you for the great video. I'm new here and will be following.
Thank you for the suggestion! And you ask a valid question about the glass. Using glass was actually my first thought but several factors led me to the acrylic. Firstly, the tempered glass pane I would have needed for this size was about 5 times the cost of the acrylic sheet and put me way over budget. Glass would also have been twice as heavy, and it's already pretty heavy as it is now. And lastly, though I know my kid would do her best to take care of it, I feared that one Friday night party and one rambunctious person showing off their new dance moves would have led to a giant crack down the surface of the glass top. I figured the acrylic would be more resilient in a 20 something's living room. Lol. When she's older and settled down in a more permanent home, I wouldn't think twice about building her something of better quality. Thank you for watching!

I would use a finish that leaves the maple as natural as possible. Rubio Natural or a clear satin poly/lacquer should work.

When you made the holes for the pvc pipe, did you go to nominal size or like .001 or .002 over?
