- A quick lap around Westport town in the mid 1950's - early 1960's
using film taken by Father Malone and Father Gibbons.
Starting at The Mall, then James Street, The Octagon, The Clock and then down Bridge Street, back onto The Mall.
Right at the end of this video you can see The Clock Tower just before it was finished, dating it to 1946, this clip also features
Father Malone.
Music used in this clip is that of Master Banjoist Ken Perlman from his album "Devil in the Kitchen".

It's lovely to see this. My mother, born in Westport in 1928, died two weeks ago, so I've been looking online for things that connect me to her past.
I used to play around that clock tower when it was being built. Even had my knee scratched on the sand around the base.
What a find. I came upon this video be accident. I met Father Gibbons while researching my family tree in Westport.
First visited Westport in the 70s and returned this Summer. Wow , what a change !! My mom was born and raised in what is now Matt Malloy's Pub.
Have many relatives there. The McGing name is all over the town and surrounding areas.
Before it was Matt Malloy's, the building belong to my uncle Dan . It was a small grocery store and pub for decades.
Much has changed but, the people are still wonderful.
Some place Westport was there 3 weeks ago hasnt changed......love it

LOL! Westport is a wonderful town. I go there for at least a week every year, and spend the other 51 weeks in anticipation.

My grandfather from out the road on the coast..one of the O Malleys..IRA man..went to America then back to dublin, married my grandmother who lived at the foot of croke park..as the saying gos..you just gotta mix them lol 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
