Thanks for making all your rad content!!! You've got me extra inspired to improve my story telling, editing, and overall strategy! Eagerly awaiting the next Past Gas episode on Monday!
We've delved pretty deep into Orbea's history but we learned even more watching your video! The company, the people behind it, and the bikes they make are all awesome. Keep Pedaling!
Thanks for the support! I'm excited to do more videos like this! Oh, and once we're thru Covid, I think you should send Logan and me to Orbea HQ in Spain for a vacation, erm, I mean, a video about their company today. Almost let the cat outta the bag there!
I was writing a comment about how your video reminded me of the 'up to speed' series, and then you stole the words right from my mouth! Love these kind of videos
Hahaha thanks Alex! Yea I'm not sure on the best format for these but I'm super inspired by Donut. I'll probably imitate these for a bit till I can come up with my own way of doing it. I've found that to be a good strategy to get started.
Bought a Orbea hardtail 29 in 2012 when i worked in Kuwait and followed me around a good chunk of Middle East - great bike but from a time before long n slack so it’s possible to catch feet on front wheel - does not get too much action these days but it’s got a crack n bale lefty as a upgrade - still there for memories now home in UK
Fantástico video Jeff! Recuerdo la primera Rallon, la veia en revistas españolas y estaba enamorado de esa bici. Gracias por el recuerdo! You lived in Spain, I bet your spanish is better than my english.
Gracias Pablo!!! No recuerdo si teníamos el Rallon circa a onde vivé en Alicante. Muchos estaban montando los Mondraker, Orange, y Canondale durante este tiempo. Saludos!!!
A friend of mine rides an ORBEA-enduro this year. I also was wondering about the "new" brand ORBEA. I didn´t know. Very nice to know now! Interesting history! I will tell him ;)
Thanks G!!! I'm really stoked to make a few more of these. I feel lame imitating another channel's style, but hey, I'll credit them as best I can, and eventually I'll find a way to make them my own! Thanks again for watching!
Only just discovered your channel, and I'm hooked! I'm looking to buy an Orbea Occam M10 in the next few months to replace my old Stevens Haze SLX, and I can't wait to get it out on trail. Consider yourself an inspiration! :-)
Love the Donut Media reference!! Made a lot of sense after listening!! My buddy had a Orbea road bike, it was always my favorite of the many bikes he's had over the years!
Great Vid! You did a huge amount of research for that! I would love to see a monthly or bi-monthly industry video like this with other companies. I love history and bikes so this was fantastic! Great Job!
Awesome vid Jeff. Fun to learn all that. Ah, yeah and looking forward to a review of the Rallon! Hope you get one to test. I bought one in 2018 and it’s been the funnest bike I’ve ever owned. Have held on to it through 4 other new bikes and it’s still my fave. (haven’t owned a Ripmo yet, but had, and let go of, the HD5 along with three others...)
That was a great video, puts how awesome and dedicated people are with an idea into perspective, It doesn't matter what bike company its. Thanks for the history lesson!
Right on! I'm hoping to try one of t hose! I've seen a bunch of them sell through my Jenson links, and I've never even mentioned them on the channel. Hopefully one day!
@5:47 are we just going to ignore that beautiful, quirky, rigid "Lefty" fork? Orbea's linkage even looks like Split Pivot, but I dig Split Pivot, so I imagine I would like Orbea's linkage. I appreciate their custom color options, as well.
NoBrakes23 .....as a lifelong Cannondale/Lefty fan I simply cannot ignore that photo. Wondering if this was a prototype only or production model. Inquiring minds need to know
Yeah it's completely the same concept as Split Pivot as well as ABP. Seems like it doesn't infringe the patent based on some other shock compression factors. Who knows!
Great video! Also, would be cool to see you ride/review the new Sentinel since Transition is local to you. Would love to hear your thoughts on it and in comparison to your current Ripmo.
Jeff. Looking at the occam and Ripley for my wife. Mainly trail ride but a pretty wide range of trails. She doesnt jump really. Does not like pedal strikes. Your thoughts on the 2 bikes?
Hey R, thanks for the note! Ripley and Occam are both good, but I'd give the nod more towards the Occam for rougher trails, and more towards the Ripley for smoother stuff. The Occam has a higher up feel, and even though the BB on paper looks like a similar height, I've noticed far fewer pedal strikes on the Occam than on the Ripley. Occam has more traction, and much better suspension with the 36 fork/DPX2 shock, where as the Ripley is slightly more efficient. Ripley is XC/Trail, and Occam is solidly Trail. Ripmo/Rallon are more enduro.
Very cool video, just surprised, are you not on Ibis bikes anymore? you mention the Ripmo, but no comparison but understand if you have to be neutral if your still sponsored by Ibis which I hope you are. Both great brands love the back story of Orbea so much history, great they have survived so many challenges and continue, also I remember the Hammerschidt great system almost before it’s time and really late, it deserved more I feel, it had allot to offer. cheers
Jeff Kendall-Weed Thanks dude, sorry I missed that one, glad you still have that connection with Ibis, I know sponsorship comes and goes, but social media platforms have changed the game a bit in terms of marketing imo and traditional models and industries are slowly and slow to pick up on how important imo people like you are, watching your Ibis back story no doubt your hands have touched a couple of my bikes in the past HD, HD3 currently not on an Ibis but you have had an influence on bringing me back to the Ibis family (Ripmo Gen2) anyways wish you both the best and look forward to seeing your many reviews, exciting times, all the best dude, ps you deserve way more subs btw, cheers.🤙
It would be really cool if this became a series. Similar to “everything you need to now about _____.” From Donut media, but with bikes instead of cars!
Donut up to speed is great, please also get all emotional! Maybe cry a little. Haha. Love these kinds of videos, it's great to look into the history and how old some of the brands really are. I have one interesting brand for you if interested: Pyga. Go look them up, great history there as well.
Hahaha thanks for the note! Glad you like this format- I do too, but since I'm imitating them so much, I'll be sure to give them credit. Pyga is interesting, I remember back when Morewood bikes were all over the USA!
@@JeffKendallWeed Those were interesting days! Morewood only makes a dropper post now, which is really just a rebranded Chinese special. So those glory days are over. But yeah Pyga is a really interesting brand for me. Keep up the good work Jeff.
@@cliffsangelsphotography Maybe I'm biased toward Ibis, but I demo'd the Occam and wasn't impressed with it altogether. It is a good enough climber, but compared to the overall pedal efficiency of the Ripmo ( as well as the Ripley) it's ok.
@@NDemanuele1 I'm totally biased too. I personally love Ibis and have the Ripmo. Among my riding friends, I'm only comfortable with the Occam in terms of climbing
@@cliffsangelsphotography For a long time I held onto my V1 Ripley like an umbilical cord! Also put it on a pedestal when comparing other bikes. Even to this day, I feel the V1 Ripley is still very relevant. Then I finally pulled the trigger on a V1 Ripmo a month ago. I couldn't be happier with my decision. Overall, I think the Ripmo climbs as well as the Ripley but may be a more efficient pedaler due to the Geo and I get the increased stability I wish I had on my Ripley. Essentially, the Ripmo is like a Ripley on Steroids!
I didn't know that I'd learn about Spanish dictators, suspension design lawsuits and fun-loving MTBs all in one video, but by some stroke of luck I did!
Nope! Sorry about that, the first map I used was a lot better than the Google map, but it ended up being all pixelated on the initial export, so I had to swap in the lame Google map.

Damnnnnn, my 2 favourite channels of my two favourite hobbies talking, sooo cool
I realize it's kinda off topic but do anyone know of a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Maddux Kade flixportal :D
@Reed Bruno thanks, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) Appreciate it !
I especially loved the pic of you as a little kid, and of your dad -- my husband! love, Mom

I do like vintage bikes, and it’s so cool that Orbea has such a history. Now I know why your Spanish is so good
Fascinating history! Thanks for all the research!
Glad you enjoyed it Mom!
Amazing history video of the company, thanks. I thought buy an occam, but now I'm pretty sure, because I like historical companies. Thanks again.
